The quaint theatre boasts beautiful stained glass windows and comfy seats and the cozy community theatre vibe where no seat in the house is a bad one. We were on the front row center this time and loved it! The actors in this production were spot on and I loved the OCT adaption of the book/movie. The comedic moments had us laughing, but the serious moments were quite powerful in this intimate setting, and even though I knew the story, found myself leaning towards the stage waiting to see what was next! Visit the website for upcoming plays and patronize this precious hometown gem, you won't be disappointed! There is local artwork for sale in the lobby and light refreshments offered as well for reasonable prices. For every play I've attended at least part of the cast is mingling with the patrons following the play and I just adore that! So fun to chat with them and share your thoughts about that night's production. I can't wait to go back soon...seriously - check it out! It's not fancy but full of charm, not pricey but well worth the ticket price and not broadway, but an awesome way to spend a couple of hours and support local actors and musicians - what more can you ask for?

Each show is pretty affordable, everything we've seen thus far has been amazing! I love having this little gem in Concord. I will say the place could definitely use some TLC, as it is very old and slowly deteriorating and falling apart on the inside. Aside from that, we've never had any problems here. There's ample parking, lots of seating and space inside, clean bathrooms, and the prices are low and realistic, which is a huge plus!

It's in the same spot/building as the McGlohon Theater but just down the hall and up the steps. First I love that you can have a reasonably priced beer from the concession stand here. Service is fast and attitudes are positive. A Sierra Nevada and bag of chips only set me back $7. And...wait for it... you can bring all of it in the theater with you. I personally like to drink a beer while watching a comedy show - call me crazy but it just enhances" the funny". When we entered the theater, I thought "Shut the front door!", in a good way. There are maybe 40-50 seats and it has an amazing intimacy the other venues don't have. Sure, it is reminiscent of say a College Campus Style and Sized theater but I love it. Got to see the Kevin McDonald show (starring you guessed it, Kevin McDonald) during the Charlotte Comedy Week. Just awesome - as others have noted, you really feel like part of the show - and actually they did record it as a podcast. Would love to come back and see a concert here!!! Tickets are also very reasonable, if not inexpensive.

Definitely not your typical theater/auditorium for a concert, but hey, I'm game for just about anything. Came here on a Wednesday night to catch "Die Roten Punkte" with my wife and some friends. Maybe only 100 seats in the whole room and most were filled. Here's my take: Pros: I LOVE a good intimate venue. I love being able to see the musicians/artist's faces, expressions and actually see their movements whilst performing. DET definitely delivers here. We sat in the front row and were basically a part of the show! Easy access if you park along 7th street. No crazy stairs, windy walkways or blocks upon city blocks to walk through. Simple access in Spirit Square. Cons: The seats are pretty rickety. I'm a rather broad-shouldered individual. If I were to sit next to an infant (not in a car seat) or an adolescent, I'd be just peachy. Sitting next to another dude my size -- not so much. Also, the risers where the seats rest are a little unstable in my opinion. Agree with Chad E on that front. You can definitely feel all of the motion happening in the room. Overall a very fun, intimate venue to enjoy. Can't wait to catch another show here! Maybe I'll try and reserve some space next to me for more shoulder room next time. Cheers!

We've been here a few times for various concerts-performances over the years...most recently, for…read moreKing Crimson and Beethoven Symphony #5...and I've been meaning to write a review, so here goes. First of all, I really like this theater. Of course it's not as big as Blumenthal (Belk), but I love the size of this theater. Due to its size, you always get a good view of the stage wherever you sit (especially referring to the rows downstairs). Also, it's a really nice, clean theater (think renovated recently...but I could be wrong). One thing that could use some improvement is the spacing between the rows of seats. It's so tight, it's truly hard to get past folks in the same row...say, if you arrive a bit late, or is trying to get out! I also noticed that for the last visit, there were some chairs out in the lobby...Yay to that! Lastly, I also like the acoustics at this theater. Everything seems to be on point However, there are a few things that I found a bit offputting. For this last performance, they didn't 't allow any photography now (even without flash?)...which I don't quite get. I DID manage to take a few pics, but before the show started. Good thing...'cuz I didn't realize it was forbidden. Maybe I didn't know any better, but I recall taking pics during the performances in the past. Maybe it's a new policy...or maybe it depends on the performance?? Last thing I wanted to mention was that after the show, there's this sense that they want us out quickly...as in pronto! I don't understand why the place can't be more hospitable, and stay open for at least 30 minutes after the concert...so folks can chat, drink, etc.etc. I mean, it was Saturday night...and really not that late either! On this last concert (Beethoven Symphony #5), they sort of bum-rushed us out by 9:45 pm (concert ended at around 9:30 pm)...and I was basically the last person inside...Why? I was waiting for my husband to pick me up in the car, and I didn't want to stand outside in the cold. Well, at 9:45 pm, I noticed that I was the last one in the place, and the ushers were sort of giving me the eye...basically bum-rushing me out! WOW. I don't recall that happening at any other late-night venue in town...where folks are encouraged to leave only 10-15 minutes, following a concert. So anyway, that's my take on the place. 5 stars for the space, cleanliness and acoustics...but 2 stars for service (not sure how I'd describe this rushing folks out part lol!). Since I'm a fan of this theater, I'll still drop 4 stars...but just wanted to mention that I'm NOT a fan of the near-rude service after the performance.
