We have been in our new NW home for less than a week... what a long but rewarding experience it has been building a home in Alberta. In Ontario, you can have a home built from the ground up in 3 mos, I think here the tradesmen go north for more $ so it took time to build here, about 8 mos. Sterling has show homes all over the city as well as outside the cities and they are worth a walk through. The designers Sterling hires are amazing as well as the staff. They really do care about the people they build for. We were checking on our home every 3rd day as we could not wait to get in and of course we wanted to take pics of the progress and everyone was so patient. Every call or e-mail we placed was answered right away and they always set our mind at ease about any little things that needed to be touched up. For me, it is about the little things, the touches, the gift card we got for a nice restaurant right after we got back from our wedding/honeymoon. I always felt we were in good hands and I would be happy to answer any questions for anyone that is looking to build with Sterling. A tough process for a worry-wart like me, was made so much easier dealing with a company that truly cares about customer service and the aftercare/follow-up. We know for a fact that Sterling uses quality products when building right down to the clamps to keep the water pipes together. Instead of say a 49 cent clamp they used $5 ones and we really feel like we got our money's worth. Yep, I am a satisfied customer! Fingers crossed!

Rather, I had an experience with one of their employees completely outside of the home building/buying process which I feel might be relevant regardless. I bought a used vehicle off of one of their employees (they didn't know that I research *everything* before I buy a vehicle! :) ) and ran into some issues related to vehicle's Voice Recognition. The seller was under no obligation whatsoever to help me as I had already paid and received the (used) vehicle. However, after I contacted him about the issue, he contacted the dealership where he had everything done previously on the vehicle, and arranged for me to bring it in to have them take a look at it. It turned out to be an easy fix, but no one knew that at the time! The point of my review is this: if an employee (VP) of Sterling Homes demonstrates that much integrity when they don't *have* to, I can only imagine that it would be a pretty safe bet that they will demonstrate at least that much when dealing with their customers.

Some of the workmanship was faulty and shoddy and I have been fighting him tooth and nail to get him to do anything to fix it but he refuses to even look at the work! If you are searching for a Calgary bathroom renovation company to do some work for you -keep looking! Beware of the battle if you hire Calgary Fun and Function Renovations to work in your home. Poor workmanship, shoddy workmanship, no customer service, no warranty is what you'll get. He was careless in protecting our homes existing surfaces getting paint on our hardwood floors, our daughter's new bedroom furniture, and built in shelving, and he put very large scratches in our banister. He said he would fix these things - never did. He is unable to manage large jobs. Lots of yes, yes, it will get done, but then you come home everyday and wonder what work was done that day. No accountability. Beware if you are paying for the materials - that's one of the tricks played at Calgary Fun and Function Bathroom Renovations - Pete Palffy says its to save you money, but really its because he will throw it back in your face later saying "the materials are defective" and not honour any warranty for you. Not real impressed. Some staff were fantastic (Lawrence)…read more Electrical and plumbing trades were incompetent and grouchy. Paid for 'kitchen design' which was non existent. Virtually all mistakes were due to poor design and were noticed by homeowner not contractor. No one reviewed the appliance specs before building cabinets, no detailed drawings were ever provided, just schematic CAD drawings which were consistently inaccurate. No attention to detail. Built in fridge bangs on side wall, more room should have been left between fridge and wall. Not impressed with cabinets which are supposed to be self closing and now require frequent adjustment to close properly and align. Project was on budget but way over time. Weeks would go by and no work would be done. Vent heater for air intake overheated and burned out, incorrectly installed. Contractor replaced it but refused to take responsibility for doubling of electrical usage while heater ran 24/7 for weeks unbeknownst to owner (potential fire hazard). Paint job just ok. There is a visible ring around ceiling pot lights. Quartz countertop installed with obvious flaw, had to haggle about this. Floor tiles uneven, again had to argue about this. Overall project management seemed inexperienced although always polite. Would not recommend them for a total kitchen make over, maybe better at small jobs.
