I would have appreciated a more collaborative approach to addressing our questions. I was also surprised by several recommendations that were presented as personal preferences, including that baby-led weaning is better than purées and a recommendation to avoid traveling with children until they are 2 years old. Given that my baby is not yet sitting up independently (she's 5 months old and still floppy), I would have preferred guidance that was more tailored to her developmental readiness, along with an explanation of the evidence behind these recommendations. One of the reasons we chose this practice was because the website states that they work collaboratively with families regarding certain healthcare topics. Unfortunately, that was not our experience during this visit with Mike. Rather than feeling that our questions were explored through a collaborative discussion, we felt that there was limited opportunity for dialogue. I value providers who explain the reasoning behind their recommendations, discuss the available evidence, and partner with families to make informed decisions. I have known Dina and Ernest Allen, the owners of the wonderful alternative medicine business for…read moreabout ten years now. I had a small flower and gift shop a couple of doors down from them several years ago and was always impressed at how caring and attentive they were to their clientele. They are extremely knowledgeable about most health issues that pop up to plague human beings (and animals too...but that's a story for another day). Almost a week ago I went to the ER with a severe attack of gallstones. I was in intense pain and after a battery of tests, bloodwork and a CATSCAN I was sent home with no resolution save for a vicodin prescription and a recommendation for surgery. After a couple of days where the pain only got worse, I was at wit's end and thought to call on Dina. She painstakingly advised me what to do in a non-surgical holistic manner to pass the gallstones on my own. Several patient conversations later, with two days of her coaching, I managed to pass the stones, eliminate the pain, and have eaten my first meal in a week! I met with her today and she and Ernest gave me nutritional counseling based on my blood type and set me up with the enzymes and supplements needed to restore my embattled digestive system. I have no health insurance and usually choose holistic measures over traditional medicine whenever possible. I would wholeheartedly recommend these fine people for any health issues and supplement support for anybody who would like to explore alternatives, or simply wants a healthier body.
