Started great. Ended horribly. Homeowners: beware - hidden fees & poor communication. We hired Rock Solid Landscape & Irrigation to extend an existing rock bed with vinyl edging to match what we already had. The proposal and rendering illustrated vinyl edging all the way around -- but mid-project, the crew told us there would be an extra $1,500 charge to add it to the outer edges beneath our fence line. The conversation we had with the onsite crew was about bumping the bed back past the fence line (like our previous bed already was), while apparently they were referencing adding vinyl edging to the back fence line. After the rock went in and they called it "done," we were told it would now be $3,000 more just to add vinyl edging along the back side -- leaving us with rocks spilling into our neighbors' yards. This is a textbook case of hidden change fees and poor project management. Jeff, the project manager, allowed the crew to deliver and communicate a major change order without ever clarifying with us. Once complete, Jeff told us that "natural edging" was the norm for most projects - although during our initial consultation and walk through before work started, the term "natural edging" had NEVER come up. We were also told over and over that the work they were doing would match our existing bed (which has vinyl edging all the way around). Jim, the owner, backed this up with ego instead of taking responsibility for his team's miscommunication and doing right by the customer. Their lack of accountability, empathy, and detail was the downfall of this project. Alex and the crew did great physical work, but it's a shame their effort is overshadowed under such unprofessional leadership. This company has a pattern of hidden fees and misaligned expectations. Was charged 3x more than the quote with no previous notice or explanation!!! After patiently waiting until 6/20 for a "spring" irrigation startup. Was told by the technician that they would setup the system and come speak with me if any other charges or repairs were needed. Technician left with no communication and received a $250 bill the next morning with no choice. Customer service was terrible and received threats that they would trespass and remove parts from my system if I did not pay. read more

We contracted with Rock Solid for a 2-tiered retaining wall with steps, sod, and mulch. The design phase went great. Install was delayed several weeks, no big deal, summer is busy. The job started and the lower wall was 2in higher on one side of the steps than the other. The tore it down, re-aligned, and rebuilt, but only at my husband's insistence. There was a flat area between 2 walls for a future patio. The 2nd wall was started and my husband mentioned twice that the 2nd wall was too high. Jason told us it was fine, he's been doing this for 20yrs. More than half the wall was built, we asked for a manager consult, all work stopped. The 2nd wall was truly was seven inches too high according to the desing plan. So another wall had to be ripped out and reset. They were frustrated, we were frustrated. The mulch was too thin (Jason said this late in the season, cedar is hard to find). It was obvious they were rushing through as the next client was waiting. The end result was just okay: several stones are marred during to resetting several times and things aren't actually level for the future patio, but we'll cross that bridge in phase 2 of our project. In any event, Rock Solid tried hard, but it was not worth the price for the frustration. read more

I used RS for some simple landscaping and an irrigation system. Jim and his team made the whole process painless. Great communication and advice for what to plant, the plants and trees brought to the site were gorgeous compared to the ones we looked at in the local nursery. When the crew was moving rock in 100 degree weather one day and in the pouring rain the next, they were all smiles. Truly a class act operation and priced fairly compared to what the builder wanted for the "irrigation package" on my new home. My new system has more bells and whistles and more care to make sure it meets my needs than what the other guys offered, all for the same price.
