There's also a huge range of boxed chocolates (including Beech's Fine Chocolates) and a brilliant range of Kendal Mint Cake - the largest selection I've seen of it outside of Kendal itself. As if that's not enough there's a range of over 40 fantastic lollipops and every kind of chocolate bar you can think of. The shop also sells empty gift jars and gift/part bags which you can fill up with our own choice of sweets from the huge range they have instore for just the cost of the bag or jar and the cost of the sweets at the shop's normal reasonable pries.

I liked the assortment, however, it was missing some licorice and some hard candies, therefore, by the old school UK definition this is not actually "dolly mix" I bought this from an import store for a lot of $$$. Does say what is exactly on the package but this is not an assortment of candy called dolly mix. I bought some for Mother's Day for my mom and although it did bring her back to her childhood I could tell that she was looking for those other pieces.

They claim not to have changed the basic recipe in 100 years and you can really taste the difference! Truly the greatest pies ever tasted. The shop is a little old-fashioned and the food tastes like good, honest, homecooked goods. The cakes may not all be uniform in size - like those mass produced in factories for supermarkets - but nor do they taste like they have just rolled off a production line and into a cellophane wrapper. A selling point at Beans is the fill your own trifle dish. You take along your own trfle dish and they fill it with goegoeus jelly and custard goodness. What could be more simple or more tasty? Please don't be put off by the staff - you will NEVER see any of them crack a smile! It is a running joke with locals that if ever beans employs a happy, smiling new counter assistant the customers always mutter she won't last long. I've no idea why they are all so sullen but my grandad maintains that it has been like that ever since he was a boy - so maybe it is tradition now!
