Tootsies Ice Cream Parlour & Cafe - Ice cream!

Tootsies Ice Cream Parlour & Cafe

It's a fresh and bright place, with a display of varying ice cream flavours depending on when you go. They also regularly run competitions to create a new flavour as the owner tells us, and when we were there she mentioned that the current competition flavour has a theme of "Sweet Shop Classics", in which the winner wins a tub of their own creation. Fab idea! * Although they also offer some incredibly tempting looking pies, scones, and freshly made pancakes, we were in an ice cream mood, and so had a look at some of the lovely flavours available, which on the day we visited included Creme Egg, Jam Roly Poly, Daim Bar, and Parma Violet. We were also invited to try some of the flavours before we decided what we'd like, and frankly that cemented the Parma Violet for me! We could've gone for a cone or a tub, but we decided to look at the very tempting sundae menu, and both chose "Mr Toots" which was two flavours of ice cream of our choice, with some crunchy bits, cream, a cone, and a fab little sparkler. I had Creme Egg and Parma Violet, and Phil R had Daim Bar and Jam Roly Poly. We loved the presentation, and agreed that they were delicious, and went down very well! They were also pretty good value compared to many other of the new boutique ice cream parlours that have popped up in recent times. The owner and staff when we were there were very friendly and welcoming, and as I enjoyed a pot of tea with a delicious home-made biscuit, I was able to watch another member of staff making fresh pancakes. There's something very pleasant about seeing it done fresh just for you! Coupling this with the value and quality of the offerings, and its location in Botany Bay with its free car park, I can guarantee that we'll be visiting again. I've got my eye on one of those colossal sized scones for next time! .... or that toffee fudge sundae... or maybe some pancakes. Oh god I don't know now! *The winner this time round was Wham! bar! Yum!

Rich's Ice Cream

Most strikingly through their window, you'll easily see that their speciality is selling beautiful ice cream for your delights (at a cost)! However, you'll find a generous variety of flavours to make your mouth water. My favourite has to be Pistachio, which I found to be just as good as the one I had in Venice. Certainly worth the money if you enjoy it! As well as ice cream and hot drinks, they strangely combine their sweet business by offering a selection of savoury snacks, such as breakfast butties and soups with rolls. These dishes are are a bit pricey but when you consider it's prime location and fine dining experience, it is second to none. All this makes Rich's such a tempting place to visit and why not on a gorgeous day. "I scream, You scream, We All scream for ice cream!"

Although, saying that, 'geleteria' does sound a bit exotic and unusual, doesn't it? It does sound more enticing than 'ice cream shop' though, so I can see why they'd use that instead. Rich's is primarily a nice little café at the quieter end of Lord Street which offers its customers a pleasant atmosphere in a reasonably-sized area that gives shoppers the chance to take the weight of their feet and have a hot drink and a sandwich or light snack. However, where Rich's really excels is in its range of desserts. As their sign says, Rich's sells ice cream in a variety of flavours and colours, meaning even the fussiest person could find a flavour to suit their tastes (I usually play safe and stick to chocolate myself, but each to their own). Their dessert menu also features a selection of homemade delicacies such as sundaes and huge chocolate éclairs which at three quid are pretty expensive but are definitely worth it, as my éclair-loving friend will testify.

I thought the setting was wonderful it was possible to see for miles around. I was pleasently surprised how much this place had to offer as if all that icecream and cakes wasn't enough for you there is also animals which includes donkeys, rabbits, goats, geese, and of course cows and a playground and mini golf. Yes there is mini golf with the most amazing views of West Yorkshire The icecream was simply delicious I have to admit it was difficult to decide from all the yummy flavours 24 in total lucky that it is possible to have scoops of different ones together in one tub. Also they sell large tubs to take away and store in your freezer. It is possible to eat inside the cafe or the is seating outside which is lovely on a nice day. We went on a saturday afternoon and it was busy this little spot seems very popular. Parking was free I suggest visiting the website for a map and details of how to find the place.

Oh, Lordy. The…read moretraffic was awful, and I'd spotted this place on the way to work, so it was just too tempting on a hot day on the way home. It's adorable- all big trees and cobbles, and the most enormous goat I've ever seen in my life. Everything was planted up pretty, and little old guys scooting up on their mopeds for a scoop. I'm 99% sure this is the best ice cream in the land. You can choose from so many flavours, I had fanuttytastic and carrot cake, the latter was particularly exceptional, but I was also tempted by the white mountain, the banana, the Turkish delight, the sloe and damson gin, the elderflower and rhubarb and the maple and walnut- so I'll just have to come back, won't I?

ERMAHGERD this ice cream is amazing!…read more Seriously, Snugbury's is a one of a kind place. A small little farm-style set up with an onsite creamery and a shop selling no less than fourty, YES - FOUR-ZERO - flavours of ice cream and frozen yogurt. Once you've made your decision you can plonk yourself on the numerous benches or prostrate on the garden lawn (if you overdo it on the cream) and there is also a short country walk if you'd prefer to burn off some of your sugar intake. Every flavour is churned on site and given a suitably cheeky name (think B&J pre-Unilever). They also have seasonal limited editions like Summer Pimms and have previously partnered with a local Cheshire bakery for an apple pie ensemble (with whole apple pie churned into it!). In the interest of research (and gluttony) I opted for the double scoop, one of 'Driving me Cherries', a rich chocolatey flavour packed full of juicy fresh black cherries, topped off with the creamiest coconut ice cream I have ever tasted. Most importantly they give good cone - if you're a selling me an ice cream in a wafer cone, then frankly you can shove your wafer where the sun don't shine! I want a cone of equal calorific value to its contents and Snugberry's deliver with their crisp and sugary waffle cones. A right proper handful. Tactical ice cream tip: the servers are real pro's with their scoopage, filling the cone completely. So if you are going to get a double scoop ask for your favourite flavour first to get the most of it. Am I over thinking this? Possibly. Do I care? Not a chance.

CHILL @ The Cowshed - Sundae!

An ice cream parlour! A lot of work was put into the fixing up of this building, which used to be a butcher shop. The exterior was sandblasted, but the interior keeps the same exposed wall and stone flagged floor, which gives a lovely rustic effect. I'd describe the effect they're going for as seaside vintage shabby-chic, and it works well, complete with rough boards and mismatched china. Its location is excellent, being next door to a bank and a car park. Both handy things for such a visit! Inside, the cosy space has several tables and chairs, around a central column, behind which is the main counter, which displays a delicious array of tempting ice creams, which (as the lady behind the counter is quick to tell us) we're welcome to taste the flavours of to get us in the mood for more! A most coherent and agreeable suggestion! We were told that a new flavour had just come in, blackcurrant and liquorice, and told that a sample would be brought for us to try. Fab! There is a blackboard proudly listing the 22 flavours that the parlour stock, and another blackboard mentioning the days food options should you feel peckish. We're also told the soup of the day. This is good really, it means that in the depths of winter, CHILL will have other options as well as ice cream. I quite fancied something foody first, so went for good and simple cheese on toast and a cup of tea. I asked if I could also have ham on my toast and was told that wouldn't be a problem. It was nice to be asked what type of bread I'd like to. Although initially served open-faced as a classic cheese on toast, a member of staff brought out an extra slice of toast, which we thought was kind and thoughtful. It was hot and tasty, and my tea was served in a dainty teapot with traditional cup and saucer. Very civil. This reminded me a bit of Delicieux, and with good reason. Debbie Halls-Evans, the owner of the former Delicieux is seemingly on-board helping out here and there, loaning chairs and the such, and is soon to open a pop-up restaurant located within the parlour itself, in an adjoining room. After my lunch, I had a sample taste of a few flavours (Turkish delight, lemon meringue and the amazing wild cherry), but settled on white chocolate and raspberry flavour. The ice creams are availible in tubs at £1 a scoop, or in cones varying from classic wafer cones, to waffle cones, coloured cones, and chocolate-dipped cones! This is pretty good value considering the price a lot of places charge for ice cream. It also goes without saying that it was delicious! After such a tasty and good value visit, and with such friendly and pleasant staff, I will most definitely be returning to CHILL, and I look forward to seeing how they progress and grow. I have at least another 21 visits planned to try all of the flavours! They don't have a big internet presence currently, which in the age of Twitter and Facebook can make things tricky, but they have a placeholder on their website, so I have no doubt that we have more in store from them!

Frurt Frozen Yogurt - Fat Free Fro-Yo

I tend to go for the natural flavour in a medium pot with raspberry's and honey, this costs between £3.50 and £4. Totally worth it. They usually have 4 or so flavours on offer. Today they had natural, peanut butter, match green tea and mango. You can have a little taste before you pick. They have a range of toppings too, ranging from fruit to chocolate and a variety of sauces to top it all off. In addition to the yummy fro-yo they also sell coffee and tea, as well as snacks including delicious protein balls that are vegan and healthy. The customer service has always been 5* in my experience, can't fault the guys that work here. The actual shop is a fairly small unit with about 5 seats inside and a few outside when the weathers nice. To be honest I'm surprised they've got 5 seats in there but they have, and it's comfortable. Most people tend to buy to take away. I also like that they offer a loyalty card, after 3 visits you get a free topping and after 6 you get a free small fro-yo. A must visit.

Want to know a secret? I actually prefer frozen yogurt to ice cream. It's true. It cannot be touched in terms of light, delicious brilliance. So how excited was I when I saw the bright, inviting colours of Frurt on Whitworth Street West, just off Oxford Road round the corner from Cornerhouse? All kinds of. Shortly after spying that I joined my flat-hunting amigo in an estate agents' office two Saturdays ago and picked up a copy of Urban Life to flick through. What did I see but a Frurt advert, noting their opening weekend at the end of July? Oh, now I was even happier. While I didn't make it to their grand sample give-out due to weekend commitments, the hideously cloying weather had me making a beeline for their enticing, clean and fun-looking shop. I couldn't resist. Instantly I was intrigued by the Fruit Parfait, which at £3.50 is one of the best value things on the menu (and they're all great value, believe me). You get your generously scooped and whipped fro-yo, with a choice of four flavours - au naturel, chocolate, strawberry or green tea. As soon as the last one was mentioned I was decided. Then it's topped with granola, a delightful drizzle of honey and your choice of two fruits - for me it had to be strawberry and mango. Off I wandered... and I stopped. I'm so silly for thinking I could eat this on the go. It demands your attention. You have to savour and enjoy it, and I found myself a peaceful spot of street and gave my treat the focus it deserved. And I didn't want it to end. It was almost breakfasty with the granola, fruit and honey, and there are plentiful topping choices if you want to feel a little naughtier. Just know that the base fro-yo is stupendously healthy. Isn't that just awesome? Going to a movie at the Cornerhouse? Grab yourself a cheeky takeaway treat beforehand. They're open until 10pm each day and it's our duty as independent business-loving Mancunians not to let them down. Frurt is one of those specialist places we sorely need in these parts, so let's enjoy it!
