They did it on a cool day so it was clear they were making a statement. They didn't have a gang color, but they had a gang pattern: paisley. I still tense up whenever I see a middle class white kid wearing paisley. I always have this fear that I will end up inconveniently damp for a short period of time. I live in terror of this to this day. The pool is great, though.

They also have softball/soccer fields, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, a gym, and much more!!! The equipment is a little dated (particularly in the gym, which is totally no frills), but it gets the job done. And they have tons of equipment that you can rent for free! I've taken my toddlers down to the grassy area and let them run around kicking the soccer ball and they have a blast! We haven't been to the pool yet (just moved in this past November so haven't been here for summer yet), but I've heard that it's really nice, and I know they offer swim lessons there, too. They get 4 stars since some of the equipment could really use an upgrade (again -particularly in the gym), but for everything you get, I feel like the association dues are very fair and reasonable. So many amenities!!!

Love coming here for community events! The Dunbar holds a great significance to the black Tucson…read morecommunity as it was Tucson's segregated school for African American students until desegregation in 1951, and I'm glad to see that it's being preserved and utilized to uplift the community in the current day. There's multiple events held here monthly, including The Slide Society's line dance classes on Thursday nights at 6PM, which I really enjoy! In addition to this, there's also the barbershop and school that lives here, a healthy food prep restaurant I think, various community classes, and even the "Connections That Count" events that take place at 5 PM every first Wednesday that target, various themes and aim to build a better community (ABC) through fellowship and networking. There's really so many great things to say about the Dunbar and community events that occur here! Definitely worth checking out.

What makes this place special is its history. Do yourself a favor, go to their website, and read…read morethe About section. I'd be doing it a disservice by trying to summarize it. Currently it serves as a community center, a school, a barber academy, and it rents space out to artists and dancers and educators and even a publishing house! They have some great community programs and I was there for the Free Vegan Cooking class. The speaker, I believe her name is Rosie Kennedy, was great; equal parts knowledgeable and warm and engaging. She broke down a topic that can be daunting and demo'd a couple of recipes. Highly recommend signing up for any of her future programs if they (hopefully!!) have them. The space itself is not great for a cooking lecture because it's not a kitchen. The speaker did an amazing job, especially with all the constraints but she could have really benefitted from a more functional set-up. The room feels like its seen better days but they do have this super cool canvas wrapped around 2 of the walls that documents the history of the local African American community and the Dunbar. All in all I really appreciate having this resource in the community and look forward to their future programs!

The Good: 1. Never had issues with customer service…read more 2. Clean gym. 3. Weight equipment in great condition. 4. Calm aura. The Bad: 1. Bringing guest. To expand on the bad, it was my first time bringing guest to this location and boy was it a nightmare. To be clear, I am aware that there are policies on how things are done especially for the guest situation. My issue wasn't with the process itself but with the staff and how they handled it. I had brought family who came to visit me and we were excited to get a pump in. I had to fill out a form and whatever else was necessary the day I brought them in. There was a lady at the front desk being trained and it's completely normal to not know how everything is done right away. She was being trained by another lady on the side. I wrote down all of the necessary information to get them in. It wasn't till two days after that I went in trying to bring only one of them in. We interacted with a lady, whom I didn't catch her name. She came off sarcastic, argumentative, and rude. We had pointed out the name on the screen that I had filled out on the initial application. My guest pointed it out first and she sarcastically pointed out the year and said "See that year? You're not that age, so it's not you." My email was clearly attached to the guest account. And I mentioned to her that a new person was working the day I brought my guest in and hadn't entered the information correctly. She shook her head and rolled her eyes. So it obviously wasn't our fault and was clearly on their part, she demanded that we redo everything and include even more information than before. I have no issue doing what's needed to be done but her bad attitude made me walk out with my guest. She clearly didn't care. She just slammed the paper back to its stack and said "ok." No attempt to reconcile or apologize for their mistakes. I go to that gym nearly every day and never had an issue with staff until her. She treated us like fools and acted as if we were trying to enter a top secret facility. I get taking your job seriously and doing an effective job, but doing it with a bad attitude and lack of respect for the customers and guests who go there is another thing. If any of you are looking for a place to take your mind off things or better yourselves, consider this recreation center. It's a great place but I implore you to watch out for that lady and bringing any guest in. She is the reason I gave it less than 5 stars. The other kind staff and good things are the reason I didn't give it 1 star. Now I know not to bring in any guest with me, which is unfortunate because having friends/family come with you is always enlightening. A big thumbs down to the lady at the front desk. Do better.

I wish I had known more about HOA's before purchasing my first time home…read more Rancho Sahuarita is the epitome of an HOA that has the time on it's hands (and funds now due to nearly tripled fees in the past 10 years) to harrass residents about small things in the supposed interest of maintaining 'community quality'. From sending letters of warning about weeds an inch high right after it rains, to neutrally colored accent lighting in trees (which the community uses in community properties year 'round but are not allowed to us peon residents, to not being allowed to park on your own property and driveway with two tires barely in the gravel (despite still beimg on your own driveway) to allow your spouse easier access to the garage, the enforcement of rules is less about 'property value' and more about being a pain in the ass about anything an 'inspector' can find wrong with your private property. I'm amazed they don't demand inyerior inspections of the homes based on the completely picky and idiotic requirements enforced by this 'community'. My advice: Stay away at all costs, even knowing this review may lower my property value, I would not wish this BS against any but an enemy. Never Again will I purchase a home with an HOA, especially with 'Associa' the company enforcing these 'inspections' at our own cost nor anything built by the Sharpe family of developers.
