I rarely write reviews, and the ones I usually write are positive. I went to Virginia Family…read moreDentistry because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was quite different. I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.

It was at that time that I asked for a referral, and he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry Orthodontist. And I have to admit that was the BEST recommendation anyone could have EVER given me. From the very first moment I walked through their doors, I was greeted so warmly that I knew I was in the right place. Their receptionist and front office personnel are very warm, inviting, and professional. But it didn't stop there. The initial process was informative with the comfort and ease necessary to help me make a decision. After that first visit, I was sold! When the day came to receive my braces, I was so excited! Their caring service, is by far the BEST! And they worked within my budget and I couldn't be happier. My regular dentist, who I've been with for 15 years, really gave me an EXCELLENT referral when he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry. They are now my favorite place to visit. I'm so glad I listened to my dentist!

They treat us like family and have been so patient with my anxious daughter. Our first dental visit 4 years ago, my daughter was inconsolable- scared of everything, kicking, screaming, crying. The staff remained calm and patient while I was tempted to never show my face again My daughter now runs inside because she can't wait to see her favorite hygienist. Dr. Victor is so gentle and explains everything he's doing so it's less scary for the littles. My kids leave with a whole bag of goodies, reward coin and a bubble dance party! They know what they're doing there. So grateful to find a group of folks that love what they do and meet us where we are.

My son had to be put to sleep at the hospital to get a few caps put on and one cap was placed too deep so his gum has been swollen for years since and one cap on his back molar is too big which traps food. It's not too bad supposedly. There was one incident where we got our appointment canceled without being notified and we drover over 1/2 an hr drive there just to find out they canceled ours last minute for an emergency which was a bit upsetting because we were extremely tired from work having to drive that far.

After serving 2 decades in the military I never spent much time worrying about myself. Dr. April Bridges quickly pointed out how she had even put braces on her mom. Let me say, today at 55 this is one of the best decisions I have made concerning my health. What I love about Dr. Bridges and PDOVA they are a patient centric organization. It's a place that people seem to love what they do! There is no replacement for an orthodontist. Before you blow your $$ on some get straight quick scam I would highly recommend you consider an expert. Try PDOVA!

Her dad took her so I only dealt with her when she returned home. She came in the house CRYING. Why? Because when the dentist was drilling, he apparently had to go deeper than expected and it hurt her badly. Did the dentist stop and numb her more? No, he did not. She then told me at one point the dentist put his hand over her mouth and told her she needed to stop crying. At the end, he told her he can't work with her. There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior! It's why adults like me hate going to the dentist. The practice has a rule that parents cannot accompany their children back to the treatment room and I see why now. Please don't take your children here to be treated like this.

Dr. Byrd himself- is truly HEAVEN sent! From the moment he introduced himself, I felt at ease and we engaged in conversation as if we'd known each other for years. With this office, you get to truly connect with your Oral health professionals on a more personal level as human beings. It's more than just a mere business transaction. As an adult who didn't have very pleasant dental experiences in the past, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was in need of orthodontia services for myself and really had my heart set on the Invisalign treatment. I was a little concerned with pricing, but his staff broke everything down up front, and offered alternative options that was conducive to my budget. I ended up getting the Invisalign braces which initially (to my dismay unfortunately) was very painful and I was not able to eat or sleep, due to the pain the trays were causing. I felt like I had made a horrible mistake in choosing these particular braces, so I informed Dr. Byrd of my intent to discontinue treatment. I was practically in tears at the thought because I was sooo excited to get these originally. Not to fear however... Dr Byrd sat down with me, took note of every detail where I voiced complaints of pain and discomfort, and was able to resend my trays back to have them reconfigured with the necessary adjustments. The new trays arrived promptly with no problem at all. His staff continued to follow up with me to ensure that they fit properly and were comfortable, with no pain. His assistant Mellissa, is an absolute doll and went over every tooth to ensure I was happy with the new results. She and Dr. Byrd both called to follow up after I left, just to ensure the new trays were working fine for me and to ensure I was happy and comfortable. I also ended up having a little hiccup with my insurance coverage (due to me switching employment in the middle of treatment), which would've left me with a pretty hefty balance even after I had already invested so much financially into it. I was devastated to hear this news and nearly broke down crying again. Lo and Behold like the angel he is, Dr Byrd informed me not to worry about it. It was all taken care of. An early Christmas present on his behalf! WOW!!!! Talk about an Angel!!!! You just don't find many good souls in this day and age like that. If I could multiply people like Dr. Byrd and his staff, the world would truly be a better place. We need more caring, loving and compassionate individuals who truly enjoy helping others and spreading joy! If you are ever in need of orthodontia care, whether young or old, I highly recommend this office. It doesn't get any better than this place! Dr. Byrd and his staff will make you feel like family from the moment you walk in! And you will forever be a part of that family for years to come. Check them out! You won't be disappointed! :-)
