DO NOT HIRE THEM. They were installing a rented hot water tank through unitil . Additional plumbing…read morewas needed not covered by unitil so they told me what had to be done to bring it to code. I told them I have a licensed plumber who does work for me normally as I knew they would most likely cost a lot more than my normal plumber. I asked roughly how much it would cost to do the small amount of work needed. I was told by the tech around $200 but he said he couldn't give me an exact price, so I was comfortable as I thought it was fair and anywhere around that price I was ok with just to get it done. Almost 2 weeks later I get an invoice of $798.05 4x what I was told it would most likely cost. I called and spoke to them on the phone and they agreed to take off 10% of the most likely 40%+ mark up on materials. I was only requesting they take off the mark up on materials as I would never had used them had I thought it was going to be $800 where I would have most likely got that done for less than half what they charged. Their tech told me something I trusted and honestly would have been ok even anywhere near what I was told.

Last year was a decision year as the AC unit had leaks and was completely empty during the first heat wave. Matt quickly worked with us to recommend a patch and fill for the year but recommended possibly saving for a future replacement. In addition, the particular coolant prices skyrocketed globally as they stopped making it. We had other options, but none ideal. Well the patch worked for the complete summer!! A pretty inexpensive fix overall. Fast forward to now - the AC coolant was bone dry again. After testing the unit, there were many leaks. Another decision to be made.. Coolant still prices on the rise... A unit now leaking badly... After discussing a few remaining options with Matt, the decision was clear and we decided to replace the aging AC system. Matt worked quickly to get the parts and within a few days the house was cold again. We have a brand new efficient system. We have built up trust with Matt and his company over the years. His pricing is fair and scheduling is flexible. i would recommend his company to anyone.

I had a specialized HVAC system custom designed and installed by RJ. McDonald in Barre, MA in 2023…read moreat a cost over $18,000. Overall, I was satisfied with the installation, aside from a few configuration changes they made that didn't match how my previous system's backup switch operated. While it took some getting used to, it wasn't a major issue, and I was otherwise happy with the system. Last night, my system developed what appeared to be a minor ignition issue. I called the company's after-hours service line and left a message. Robin, the on-call representative, returned my call promptly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the conversation quickly became disappointing. Before I could fully explain the problem, I was interrupted and told that the company showed I had not purchased propane from them within the past year. I was then informed that, despite spending thousands of dollars on a custom system they designed and installed, they would not service it unless I was buying propane from them. What was most frustrating was not just the policy itself, but the way it was communicated. The tone came across as annoyed and condescending, making me feel like my business and prior investment meant very little. When you spend over $18,000 with a company for a specialized heating system, you reasonably expect that they will at least provide service or support when an issue arises. If this is RJ. McDonald's policy, it should be made very clear before customers invest in one of their systems. I understand businesses can prioritize customers in different ways, but refusing to service equipment they installed simply because I purchase propane elsewhere is disappointing and, in my opinion, poor customer service. Based on this experience, I would encourage anyone considering a custom HVAC installation to ask detailed questions about future service policies before signing a contract.
