I went there Saturday AM to avoid rush hour. Setting appointment was a breeze. I schedule it on phone and asked for Robert himself. It was a basic shape up. He did a good job after I told him about growing my mane. The hair shaped up nicely to my expectations. Very clean and professional. Just a bit pricey from a guys perspective. Nothing exorbitant but can be competitive. I definitely recommend for guys. No need to be shy about going to unisex salons. read more

Before I moved to NJ, I went to an Aveda salon and I have been looking for a salon that compares for over a year. I had a wonderful experience here and paid a lot less than I would have in the past. This was my second visit with groupon and this is the go-to-place for haircut. Last time it was John who did my haircut and this time it was Robert. Both did absolutely wonderful haircut. Talk less and more work... I like that. But they asked me every step if I was okay with it and made me feel comfortable. I just told Robert what I want and he understood and did exactly what I was expecting. I did not even interfere until he was completely done with the haircut but the end result was phenomenal. On various websites, I see reviews of 5 stars and reviews of 1 star. Based on my experience this salon is scoring more "medium". A 5 is overrated, a 1 is really underrated. I tried this salon via the recent groupon voucher. As a result, I got a great deal for highlights and a haircut. I got there a bit late due to the horrible traffic on 27 around 4.45 and was out of there by 6.30. I was greeted in a friendly and personal manner and was seated immediately. I was asked what I wanted and I feel we had a good interaction on what i wanted. What added to the good experience is that the owner, who was doing my hair, wasn't overly chatty. Also, this is the first salon without overly loud and annoying music or chatter, or where the employees or owners are spending more time and effort looking at their own mirror view, rather than the customers! So overall I enjoyed the atmosphere... although you could argue that they could try a bit harder to give their business a more modern and "fresh" feel.... As to the haircut and highlights. I am happy with the highlights. They look very natural and it didn't take him hours to do them. I really get annoyed when stylists try to give you highlights hair per hair... as a result... it is all the same color! So now, because he did it a bit quicker and a bit less precise, it actually looks very natural and spontaneous! From that perspective, the best highlights I had since I moved from Europe to NJ!!! The color is a bit on the lighter end of the spectrum of what I am used to, but you can't expect the color to be exactly right the first time you try a new salon. So no complaints! The cut... well I can't really judge until I try to style it myself in 5 minutes time before going to work. I hope it is low maintenance, but it looks good so far. I was - however - hoping for a bit more guidance from him. He really asked me how I wanted it, but he is the expert so I always prefer when a stylist recommends something. But again - not a deal breaker to me. The blow dry wasn't really what I am used to from Europe... but going to a hairdresser here in the US for the past year, I already gave up hope for a good blow out. I really think that part is skipped during any US hair dresser education. So overall, very good experience. The only reason why I give 3 stars and not 4 is one detail... but important to me. When I made my appointment, I looked online to see what time the business closes on Friday: 8pm. When I called for the appointment with partial highlights and cut, he told me I had to be there at the latest 4.30. To get there, I had to leave work early and since I don't have a car, I had to ask a colleague to drop me off, so she had to leave work early too. I would be fine with all that, but not to see the owner leave at 6.40 - right after he was finished with me. (I was still there waiting for my colleague to pick me up again as I was done way earlier then expected). I wouldn't have had to go through the trouble of leaving work early and rush out the office... so I really feel that is a bad mark for customer orientation. In summary: don't let the bad reviews online keep you away, but also don't expect a 5-star salon. I will surely be back when there is another groupon!!! read more

This was our first visit to this beauty salon and let me tell you that we will go no where else as long as we live in Franklin Township. The salon is clean, orderly and has ample parking. Robert did my hair. He did a color touch up, partial highlight and cut. He also cut my husband's hair. My husband said it's the best hair cut he had in a long time and that goes for me also. Robert is a keeper. Also his rates are very fair and not over priced. I made another appointment in five weeks. I can definitely say we hit the jackpot with Robert Stephen. He is excellent and top notch in his field. He also listens and takes care of the client's needs and wishes. read more

I went in looking for a fresh new look and left with something that would have made my grandmother jealous. I used this salon because of a Groupon and I promise I will never go there again. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother who is an immigrant and has English as her second language.I did not visit this salon but this have the opportunity to speak with the owner, and I feel people should know what type of establishment this is. My mother punched a Groupon for a Keratin Treatment for this Salon. She went into the Salon and got the treatment about two weeks ago. After receiving the treatment my mother compared this treatment to many other treatments she had gotten done and commented that it was a rather quick treatment. Being optimistic that it would have the same results she waited. Unfortunately her hair did not yield the the same results, nothing even close. I can't be sure what process they used, but I can attest to no change in her hair. After being unhappy with the treatment she received, I suggested she call the salon back and let them know how she felt. In hindsight, I feel bad for even telling her to call them. She called the salon back and was really upset that the technician spoke to her with such an attitude and was belligerent. She also let me know that the owner, Robert had called her back and was very threatening and equally as rude as the first woman she spoke to. I decided to call the salon myself today and felt horrible for sending her to this place. I spoke with the owner directly and realized how arrogant and pompous he was. I can go into great detail about what this gentlemen said or how he hung up on me, yet to be honest, care not to spend the rest of my Saturday dealing with this waste of space. The proof is in the pudding. This place is using Groupon for a reason. Bragging that you have been in the business for 19 years with no complaints ever is laughable. He states on his Facebook Page "Opened my salon in 1995 with the idea of creating nyc style salon with a home town feel" NYC Style ?? You wouldn't know NYC style if it hit you upside your head. Try learning manners and customer service. The next time you decide to threaten someone, you can be very sure that the North Brunswick Police will be at your front door step. read more

When I arrived I was notified that I was only scheduled for a cut and they could not accommodate me for another week. The location was a bit hard to find at first, it's not in a shopping center that would quickly catch your eye. However, it's a definite gem among hair salons! Robert was absolutely wonderful with my hair. I had it cut a little over a year ago and was traumatized by someone taking off over 8 inches when I wanted "a trim". I was petrified to get my hair done again but the layers I had were looking bland and I knew I needed professional help. He made me feel completely comfortable and asked me every step of the way if I was okay with it. It turned out to be a beautiful cut with excellent layers with bangs that were the perfect length! I can't even begin to tell you how many compliments I received :-) I don't get my hair cut often but I will definitely be going back to see Robert when I do! His salon is beautiful and charming, the prices are great and the quality of his work is amazing. I followed the greatest nail tech I've ever had over to this salon from her previous one. Jessie is up to date on all the new styles and techniques and does an amazing job. I broke one of my nails completely in half and they took me in immediately that morning. And another time I had a situation where I was charged on the "style seat" app and paid cash in store. The effort the owner, Robert, put forth to help me get my money back was so helpful. The amount of compliments I constantly get on my nails is overwhelming, I'll never settle for "ok looking" nails ever again. read more

I purchased a groupon for a Keratin treatment and it was not only a waste of my time, but a waste of money. It was nothing better than a good blow dry. The product used was not the actual Keratin product. I am fully aware of the difference because I have had a keratin treatment 6 months ago. My hair is still wicked curly, not smooth and difficult to manage while on vacation in hot weather over the Christmas break. read more

Jessie is the best nail technician in the state of NJ and she works here! She is up to date on the current nail trends and is able to execute any picture you show to her. I cannot tell you how many compliments I receive about her work! She does the shape I want perfectly, the style and the design. Also, she is super accommodating and acts like a friend to you. She will make sure you are 100% satisfied before you leave. And the price you pay for the fantastic work she does is also decent priced. You will never have to pay $70 or $80 for a fill in with crazy designs and reinstones like most places. read more

I used a Groupon to try this salon and I'm so glad I did. He listened to what I wanted and kept as much length as possible on my hair after a partial highlight. My hair came out great and was still super healthy. He was very friendly and willing to listen to what I wanted. Check out the Groupons. I will be returning to him even without those. The worst salon experience EVER! Very unprofessional staff and the owner, sit around drinking coffee reading newspapers and gossiping about clients, while other clients are getting their hair done right next to them! Salon itself very dated and pretty messy, seems like nothing was changed or fixed there since 90's, including staff. No receptionist or anybody to grit you at the front.. i walked in and nobody even said hi! Had my hair done by Robert who looked very awkward putting the foils and color( took him three times to mix it to right consistency.. really?) was constantly dropping comb and clips and putting them right back on my hair..seriously!? Very odd for somebody with decades of experience. Was very slow and it took forever... haircut was very average, no proper cutting techniques and CROOKED. Highlights ATROCIOUS!!! were put an inch away from scalp that made my roots look even worse than before, color was uneven and yellowish, when i looked under top layer there were color bleed marks ALL OVER my head! DISGUSTING! Will never go back, dont know how they get all those good reviews I guess they write those them selves, or some people have very looow standarts! read more

let me begin by telling you that i am normally not one to write reviews but my recent visit to this place left me feeling cheated in some way that i thought i have to put it down.. i went their seeing the 4.5 star rating they have on yelp. i got a groupon deal for $29 that included cut, deep conditioning and blow dry. The wash and deep conditioning were both hopeless.. i think she did not even wash my hair properly..she literally washed the top of my head and conditioned only around that area and i suspect did not even wash the stuff off properly.. i did not want to be rude and it is totally unlike my nature to ask let alone hurt!while washing she mentioned to me that i might be charged $10 to 20 extra for long hair.. my hair falls just a lil below my shoulder blades.. but ok.. i thought she is gonna charge me like 10 or 15.. she charged me a whole $20! it kinda doubled the groupon money i paid for! i tipped her $10 .. that took it to a whole $60 for a haircut which did not even need much styling since i was only doing a trim on a couple layers i had! well.. the haircut was exactly what i asked for! thats the good part :) if you want to go here, please take an appointment with Robert himself! seeing the other reviews, he seems to be good. read more
