My Grandad passed last week, I live in the US and was on a plane 2 days after I found out. It's been very emotional but I know my Mom said the family who work here who've been helping them organize everything have been so wonderful and just made everything so easy and run smoothly. Planning a funeral is one of the hardest tasks to do in life, there's really no easy way to do it but I know my mom and her siblings are very pleased with all of the arrangements. The last time I saw my Grandad Ken it was 2 years ago and he was very sick, it was very shocking and a part of me wishes I would have not seen him and remembered him as the vibrant funny guy he was in life. My Uncle this week asked me if I wanted to go see him. He said the parlor had done such a wonderful job with him that he looked like he always did. I decided I wanted to see him and say good bye but honestly when we pulled up last night I was very freaked out at the thought of seeing a dead body even though I know he was my Grandad. We were greeted at the door by the nice gal who was very calming and supportive who talked us through how he looked and how peaceful he was. All 5 of us walked in and honestly it was a shock, it was definitely a strange experience and I had to walk out after a few minutes as I felt sick. But I went back in to say my goodbyes and honestly he looked fantastic, he looked the same as he did his entire life and just looked like he was asleep. It was so nice to know he's in a good place and I'm glad that was my last time seeing him and I have the memory of him looking ill out of my head. I'm looking forward to celebrating his life today and reliving all of the wonderful moments he had. Thank you to this wonderful place for putting us at ease, making the arrangements for us and allowing us to see him one last time looking absolutely fabulous!

However McCallum and Tritton are very popular in the area. I know this because I live nearby and the main road traffic is continually interrupted by a festooned hearse or two. The cars a kept in beautiful condition and the staff always look very smart. I wonder that the staff are not all as odd as one particular member who is constantly sat or stood outside the directors; it's a little creepy, like he's sat waiting for someone to give up the ghost. His gaze troubles my grandfather who says he feels he's being sized up in advance!! The staff and vehicles are so well turned out and professional on the day of the funeral we were not thinking straight at all just the simple question at our house have we got our words if we need to talk, do we need the loo before leaving and the house keys dont forget them, they thought of everything right down to a personalised cd of the music that we could keep and use for the get together afterwards. Nothing was too much for them to do and I mean nothing. I hope I dont see them soon though!

I found some parts of their service were wonderful - viewings arranged at short notice, a visit to the house to arrange the Order of Service, a colour photograph easily inserted, and a second visit to the house to show the proof of the Order of Service. That was wonderful, very helpful, and their attitude was also second to none. The waitiing area at the premises leaves a little to be desired, but the premises themselves are so beautiful, and so private, that thatsa small price to pay. All I'm referring to is that there didn't seem to be any way to get any privacy, there were no partitions of any sort, which I would have expected, to be honest. The only problem we encountered was one that only I dealt with: on the very morning of the event, they said that they'd lost the only copy of the music that was to be played. In fact they hadn't, it was in the place it was supposed to be, whereas they'd been looking in a different place (one has to ask, why?). Thats the only niggle, but it has stuck in my mind for some little while now. Its very minor, however, and in general the level of empathy and service we received was excellent.

Nevertheless, Springwood cemetery is a lovely place to let your carcass rot into eternity, mainly because it's so large, big enough to necessitate a trio of chapels. It's the closest thing this city has to those vast European places with a thick forest of headstones and complex stone memorials, most of them standing above incredibly famous corpses. Springwood is a lush, organised cemetery that is pleasant to walk around, but if you're out for a stroll there's much less morbid places nearby that you could just go to instead. Otherwise there's a danger you'll glance a funny name on a tombstone and giggle in front of a funeral. And that's just awkward.
