I have been following Robert Lange Studios on social media for a long time. I finally visited on one of their 1st Friday show openings. I was blown away. This is how all art galleries should feel when you go to an opening. There were so many people - all equally astounded as I was with not only the beautiful art in each room but in the space itself. Robert was painting while talking to people and answering questions. I am so excited to return in July since I will be in the area again. Anyone would love this gallery- whether you are an artist, an art lover or even someone who knows nothing about art! You will not be disappointed. read more

RLS is by far my favorite gallery downtown. This two story gallery has a wide variety of artists with a new featured artist every month. Some pieces are interactive with a piano (please only play if you know how), swing, stone stacking, a seating that invites you to relax as a magnetic ball cuts through sand. I've been at various hours and days and have been fortunate to see one or two artists in their studios at work. They're always so kind and open to you being there to watch and ask questions. If you're looking for an opportunity to stop by I recommend going on the first Friday of the month (5-8p) during the art walk. RLS, along with many other galleries, will be open to the public and have wine tastings. It's a great social event where you can meet with the locals and artists. read more

This was a must-see on our list of thing to do in Charleston and we're so glad we made time for it. I like going to art galleries, but you can't deny they are often stuffy, dark, and even intimidating. This place was just the opposite. I've never felt more welcome and thoroughly entertained at an art studio like this! I was strolling the streets of downtown Charleston when a sign outside the studio said it was a highlight of Charleston. Inside there are wide ranges of art work. I loved all the interactive things like the swing and rock stacking. We were also treated to a piano concert and saw an artist painting live. It was a perfect way to spend 30 minutes and learn about new (to me) artists. My spouse who usually yawns at art museums equally enjoyed this visit. read more

After leisurely meandering through the streets of Charleston, we were stopped in our tracks by the art in the window at Robert Lange Studios. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a sweet friendly lady who told us to make ourselves at home. We loved the various artist exhibitions (particularly Adam Hall). When we walked upstairs, we were able to watch an artist painting which was a fun treat! There were pieces of various price points but all equally stunning. I love Robert Lange Studios! I go every time I visit Charleston. Robert Lange has been painting for over 30yrs. His art is unlike any you've seen. It's unique. It's brilliant. Ryan creates silver and uses it in such a dynamic way. You'd think it was metal. He paints 2D objects that appear to be 3D. The allusion is so real you'll want to touch it to see. I have discovered some of my favorite artist through this studio and gallery! I first visited several years ago during a Friday night French Quarter art walk. The exposed brick walls, whimsical indoor swing and interesting art quickly made this gallery one of my favorites. The art changes a steady pace so there is always something new. And their social media updates are very helpful to know what's on exhibit and other events they have going on. My friend and I were walking around Charleston and saw this gallery from the street. We decided to pop in and boy, were we glad we did! We met Robert as he was painting (an adorable and intricate elephant on a cupcake) and he told us about the studio and the art. The hyperrealism was breathtaking! The studio felt open and friendly, and every piece was interesting and amazing. Make sure to go check out the second floor- we accidentally stared at a coffee table for 30 minutes.... During my visit in Charleston I wanted to go visit some of the art studios and I had read in Condé Naste too 15 things to do and they highly recommended Robert Lange's Studios. So I set out from my hotel on my journey by foot to find Robert Lange's Studios on the south end of Charleston. It was a beautiful walk down Queen Street, one of the most photographed in Charleston and it had given me much inspiration and appreciation for the colonial architecture. When I finally arrived at the studio I was entranced by the amazing artwork that he's created. I have included a few of my favorites that I took photos of while visiting.
