Pretty simple small gallery, most of the artwork is from the area with local artists gathered from what I saw and they were wonderful pieces. If I had more cash I would think of getting one, but you know maybe in the future. The shop attendant was talking to someone, so we didn't really bother to ask questions and really get to know the place but I thought the gallery was pretty neat.

The majority, if not all, of their merchandise comes from local and regional artists who reflect Lowcountry and Southern themes. While much of the gallery is devoted to paintings, they do offer a variety of mediums, including free-standing and wall-hanging sculptures, jewelry, woodwork, and even fiber arts that could be worn (hats, scarves). Although I haven't purchased anything (yet!) in my 2-3 visits, the staff is always very friendly and informative, and not the least bit pushy or stuffy. This is definitely a place I will keep in mind for gift-giving occasions.

It turns out they have 2 locations too. One is in the nicest hotel in town [ and lots of the art in the hotel common areas is from the gallery ] and the other is on Broad street. I'd say the Broad street location has a funkier vibe, but don't miss the bar in the hotel, just around the corner from the gallery.

But this time the experience we had at Mary's gallery was amazing-we had never gone in before-I do not know why but now I know we will always stop there. They have incredible art for all tastes and for all budgets. Katelyn was extremely helpful when we told her what we liked. She helped us make a decision, wrapped the paintings extremely carefully so we would not damage them on our way back home. She also gave us copies of the paperwork-just the nicest experience we have ever had in an art gallery. We learned a lot about the artists whose works we loved. We will definitely be back! Thank you Katelyn and Mary.

The…read morecheerful coral historic building on State Street houses hundreds of original, whimsical works, including jewelry and pottery. One of my favorite artists featured there makes homemade paper light sculptures in fascinating shapes (a giant jellyfish, for instance). Another, Don Dudenbostel, takes x-ray-like photographs of flowers and natural objects, the results of which are eerily amazing (see pic). When your eyes glaze over after viewing yet another sunset-on-the-marsh scene at umpteen other galleries, head over to Nina Liu's for some fresh inspiration and great nibbles (for last night's walk she made brussels sprouts soaked in sesame oil and featured dips from Doe's Pita), graciously served by the proprietor herself. The building, the Poinsett House, keeps going up and up, and Ms Liu opens all four floors of her gallery/home for the artwalks. She even allowed us plebeians to wander in her back garden, a lush little courtyard with a tiny pond and some great sculpture. Nina Liu was one of the first to arrange the gallery tours that later became the artwalks, and as far as I'm concerned, hers is the best stop along the way.
