In fact, the school was ahead of the game. They had already implemented an e-learning curriculum, for potential snow days. So, when we got the stay at home order, transitioning into e-learning was seemless. The teachers and staff have also done a great job to check in with families and students, to make sure everyone is ok. These are trying times, but I have peace of mind that St. Anne is making homeschooling non-stressful. Thank goodness my kids are enrolled in St. Anne!

Saved the debt for grad school. Still live in parent's basement but have a respectable career with the major company in my field. As promised, I never ever had to work as hard as I did freshman, sophomore, or junior year, ever again. This school introduced me to people from so many different backgrounds and really opened my eyes to global issues. Case in point: Our main drama occurred right after graduation. One activist type guy followed a love interest to palestine. Also, a chick went to Israel, also following a love interest, joined the IDF, and immediately gave them all the information she knew about the activist guy.

Northside really is an exceptional place. I was a part of the first class to complete four years in…read morethe high school, and I can say, without a doubt, that Northside had the kind of impact on me that I don't think I could have had elsewhere. The staff at this school is remarkable not only because of their depth of knowledge on various subject, but because of the fresh approach that they take to education and the compassion that they show their students. It was my experience that the teachers at Northside didn't punch out as soon as the bell rang (or the music played). As for the overall environment, this school has always been extremely progressive in it's approach to the arts and it's dedication to pursuing them. The open mics used to be something of legendary quality for Chicago high school students, and that tradition has been carried on by the annual arts festival the school presents. I found myself completely prepared for college, but more importantly, completely prepared to go after the things in life I wanted to explore personally and artistically. Northside always treated me more like a human than a statistic, which is rare in the CPS. If I ever made the mistake of procreating, I'd be sending my kid here.

Northside College Prep is an excellent and rather unusual high school. It's a Chicago public…read moreschool, with selective enrollment. Students must apply, have a great academic record, and score very well on an entrance exam in order to be accepted. All academic classes are taught at the honors or AP level, which provides the challenge needed by motivated students. My daughter is a freshman here, and so far I've been very impressed with the curriculum, faculty, and teaching methods. The schedule resembles that of a university: each academic class meets twice a week. Every Wednesday is dedicated to an alternative learning program called "Colloquium" which gives students an opportunity to sample a variety of subjects. The administration is well organized and supportive of the staff. In addition, there are very strong parent organizations that contribute to the life and health of the school community. If you know of an academically gifted grade school student, I would highly recommend that you consider NCP when evaluating high schools.

The sexual vulgarity that came out of their mouths was so frequent I started walking from one class to another with headphones. Then I was told by security I was not allowed to wear headphones. At the time, we only had 2 security guards who regularly circulated. One was almost bed ridden due to physical ailments and had to roll around in an a special chair. The other was hearing impaired so he couldn't hear any of the sexual obscenities the boys were shouting. I would not recommend this school for that reason.

In a follow up meeting with the principle, one di***head Mr Roche he presented me with a stay order of some type. Yes what another reviewer here said they brush problems and hide them. There are significant behavioral issues among students that are not being effectively managed. The lack of classroom control creates constant disruptions and takes away from students who are there to learn. This directly impacts academic progress and the overall learning environment. More concerning, a fifth-grade teacher told an entire class that they would not amount to anything, would not get into college, and were not talented. When this was reported to both the school and the network, it was dismissed and brushed aside. This response--or lack thereof--raises serious concerns about accountability and whether issues are intentionally minimized to protect school ratings. Additionally, morning supervision at Wrightwood Park is inadequate. Staff members are frequently disengaged, chatting among themselves rather than actively supervising students, which raises safety concerns. Finally, during my daughter's transfer out of the school, her personal belongings were mishandled. We were given only one notebook and one pencil. Her glasses, pencil case, and multiple school supplies that we personally purchased were missing and never returned. Families deserve transparency, accountability, and a safe, supportive learning environment. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

This school is safe, spacious, clean, and heavy on parental involvement. The student body is diverse - 60 percent white, 30 percent Hispanic. A small portion of the children here are native Polish speakers. Nearly 50 percent of students are classified as "low income." What does all of this mean? Dever's student population hits a great balance that is rarely found in public schools - one that is highly beneficial for any parents who want their kids to learn in a diverse environment. If you live in the attendance zone for Dever and are debating whether to send your children to private school or enter the charter or magnet lottery, I would highly encourage you to first consider this neighborhood school. Ask to take a tour during a school day - I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.
