When my dog was suddenly experiencing problems with his knee (limping, not wanting to walk more…read morethan a few steps) I was told it was due to a condition called "Luxating Patella", which would likely require surgery. I was referred by a local vet to Dr. Saundra Hewitt at the West Toronto Veterinary Surgery office. I found Dr. Hewitt to be extremely friendly and showed a very genuine care and concern for my dog. She examined him, asked me all kinds of questions related to his activity level, his eating habits, etc. and then took great care in explaining to me what he was experiencing with his knee. She said that although she could correct his knee with surgery, it wasn't really necessary at this stage, especially given the uncomfortable recovery. It's so refreshing to have a surgeon really consider the dog first, rather than just say, "He needs surgery" just because it CAN be an option. The cost of surgery is always a consideration, of course, and if you aren't prepared for it, can really be an issue for some. Nobody wants to fork over thousands of dollars for something that isn't absolutely necessary, so I was really relieved to hear that my dog would be fine without surgery. In the couple of weeks since my appointment with Dr. Hewitt, my dog has recovered very nicely, from which she suggested was more than likely just a bad sprain. The knee condition was more of an underlying issue that he can live with comfortably for many more years. My dog is now back to his normal self, walking and running around like he used to.

Unfortunately, in the past couple of years there has been a change in staffing and the new policy at the office is more about squeezing as much money as possible out of people. With a new receptionist, Carlie, and another vet, Dr. Bagga, my experience changed drastically! After a couple smaller nickel and diming instances, I got to the final straw last week - my Bernese mountain dog had an ear infection. I called for a repeat prescription because she had one in November and the meds worked. The receptionist, Carlie, told me my dog would need an exam. She told me that if I had called within a month or two of the initial prescription it would have been ok, but not 3 months. $70 exam (of just her ear, Dr. Bagga did not look at anything but my dog's ears), turns out she had an ear infection. Uh huh. And the icing on the cake - when I took my dog there in November, Dr Bagga told me he would deliver the first dose of meds. When I looked at the invoice, I was charged $30, I called and they put a credit on the account. But that credit - sham!! Oh, they gave me the $30 credit, but said "we usually charge $60 for that, so I gave you the credit but charged you the remaining $30". Nice!!! So - I'm out!! I have spent thousands of dollars there over the years having my animals treated. I currently have 2 cats, both 3 years old and an 18month old dog. Not great forward thinking to rip people off for $100 when it costs your business thousands!!

Found Hwy 403-Dundas Animal Hospital and will never go anywhere else. As for the review from Lindsay from Mississauga you were definitely not "ripped off". Good afternoon, I…read morewanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at Burnhamthorpe Animal Hospital for the exceptional care you provided to my pets -- my cat Honey and my dogs Chanel and Dior -- during their spay procedures. From the moment we walk through your doors, it is clear how much compassion, professionalism, and genuine care your entire team has for animals. My pets are always calm and comfortable in your care, which speaks volumes about the environment you create and the trust you build with both pets and their owners. I am especially thankful for the attentiveness shown during their aftercare. The follow-up calls and check-ins truly meant so much to me and gave me great peace of mind knowing that Honey, Chanel, and Dior were recovering well and being closely monitored. It is rare to find a veterinary team that goes above and beyond in this way, and it does not go unnoticed. Thank you for treating my pets as if they were your own. I am incredibly grateful to have such a caring and dedicated veterinary team and would not hesitate to recommend Burnhamthorpe Animal Hospital to anyone looking for outstanding animal care. With heartfelt thanks, Chantal Moore

Burnhamthorpe Animal Hospital Review…read more I initially found the staff at Burnhamthorpe Animal Hospital to be very friendly. However, when I inquired about the cost of vaccinations, which were $210 each time compared to $70 at other clinics, the staff member became very rude. When I mentioned that their prices were expensive, she abruptly hung up on me. To make matters worse, one visit to Burnhamthorpe Animal Hospital costs more than three visits to other places. Who can afford this over $600 just for first year vaccinations. Never mind checkups and Rabies shots. This experience was quite disappointing and unprofessional.

Unfortunately, my experience at this veterinary clinic was not a positive one. I took my cat in for…read moretreatment, but the care he received was not adequate. After the consultation, he developed an infection and had a fever, which led me to seek care elsewhere. Additionally, I noticed that the clinic's conditions were not the most hygienic, and the handling of animals was rough. I believe that a good professional should show care and empathy toward their patients, which I did not experience in this case. I am absolutely appalled by the response (from this clinic (on google reviews, replying to my girlfriend, review is below) as it is completely misleading and dismissive of the reality of what happened. We did not bring our cat back for a "courtesy visit"--we had to return because our cat was excessively bleeding after surgery. When we FaceTimed, you assured me this was normal and told me not to worry, despite my clear distress. You then said that if it would make me feel better, I could bring the cat in. When we arrived, the situation was exactly as shown in the pictures--our cat was covered in blood. Your response? You splashed alcohol directly on the wound, causing extreme distress to our already suffering cat. Instead of handling the situation with care, you used a soiled towel from a previous animal, already full of blood, and I had to insist that you replace it. Even then, instead of providing proper medical supplies, you replaced it with paper towels. You did not administer any additional antibiotics or pain relief, nor did you take the situation seriously. You repeatedly dismissed our concerns, even going as far as saying, "Don't worry, they don't feel anything." How can someone who dedicates their life to treating animals be so indifferent and inhumane? Additionally, let me be very clear--we absolutely followed post-surgical care instructions. As soon as the surgery was done, I immediately bought a proper surgical cone, which has remained on the cat ever since. It has now been almost a week, and the cone has never been removed. So do not attempt to shift the blame onto us by falsely claiming we failed to follow procedures--it was you who failed to follow proper procedures and provide adequate care. To make matters worse, after taking our cat to another veterinarian, we received an official diagnosis of high fever and infection--yet you continue to downplay and deny any responsibility. Your negligence and lack of compassion are beyond unacceptable. This experience has been heartbreaking and infuriating. I will make sure this clinic is reported and that others are fully aware of the irresponsibility, poor hygiene, and dismissive attitude displayed here. No pet owner should ever have to go through what we did. This makes it even clearer that their attempt to blame you is completely false. We had to pay again to get our cat treated elsewhere. Something no one should do twice. We have asked him to reimburse us, since he caused this situation, and he has been radio silent ever since. Advice: pay a little more to get good treatment instead of supporting this business that charges less but also provides you less care and quality.
