I inadvertently got involved with Accountemps when I applied for a job through Indeed, not realizing that I was applying through Accountemps. They contacted me almost immediately (within an hour) and told me that the job for which I had applied was no longer available. Even though the job had been posted only a few hours before, I didn't think much about their claim that it had already been filled. I now think that the listing may have been a phishing scheme to get applicants to contact them.
When they contacted me, they asked if I would be interested in signing on to have them look for a position for me. I told them what I was looking for (part-time, desired pay, geographic radius, etc.). Various members of their staff then proceeded to call me every day (sometimes more than once each day) to tell me about a job that, for one or more reasons, did not fit the criteria I had laid out. I told them that I was not desperate to get just any job, and that they should only call me if something that met my requirements became available, even if that meant that they never called. They continued to call with positions that I did not want, still on an almost daily basis.
After a few months, Accountemps did call with a position that fit most of my criteria, so I decided to give it a shot. It didn't quite meet my pay criterion, but it was close to home and allowed for an occasionally flexible schedule (my most important criterion so that I could be available for my school-aged children when necessary). I showed up for the part-time assignment the next day, only to find out that the job was not at all flexible, as I was assured it would be. They expected set days and set hours, with absolutely no room for flexibility, even on an occasional basis. Rather than wasting their time and my time, I told them that this position would not work for me and that they would have to contact Accountemps to find someone else. I spoke with the president of the company who told me that Accountemps had not conveyed to him that I was looking for a flexible schedule, and it was clear that I had not been told what the employer expected. So it looked like we both had been told what we wanted to hear, and Accountemps' goal was to just get a warm, breathing body into this position to get their commission.
DO NOT get involved with this company at any cost. They are not interested in making good matches between employer and employee. They are only interested in making money and meeting quotas. read more
