First time home buyers, now first time home owners checking in! Now that the dust has settled we wanted to share our feedback about working with Robert and Gecko Realty. Some background: we were looking for a renovation project with great potential but not a knock down fixer. We work long hours so we were only available on nights and weekends, and we were on a tight budget in a competitive sellers market. As novice home buyers, we were unaware of the risks in older properties or hastily flipped houses and completely unprepared for the emotional attachment and roller coaster of putting an offer on a dream home, finding out we would be in over our heads, and making the call to walk away. In short, we were difficult clients with high expectations and no regard for our realtor's work-life balance :) In spite of all this, Robert knocked it out of the park and exceeded anything we could have asked for. Robert brings a unique skill set into the home buying process. In addition to being a real estate guru, he is a former electrical engineer and housing inspector. And at times a therapist. As we entered seemingly perfect homes, he coached us to see through the veneer of creative staging and cosmetic workarounds and to really see the potential (or pitfalls) of each house, including projected costs of renovation. We were aware that knocking down walls for open concept living was not cheap, but Robert pointed out structural issues, electrical issues, and code violations that turn dream home projects into nightmares. Just as Robert steered us away from disaster, he pointed us to potential good fit homes and was supportive through tough negotiations, difficult sellers, and bidding wars that seemed to always end in heartache. Until finally, we found our home! Robert dropped everything to meet us in Escondido at a hot new listing (bit of a trek from his home base near Mt. Helix) so he could walk us through the house, coach us through the bidding process, help us draft a letter to the seller, and ultimately craft an offer that the seller accepted over several competitors. He was our rock through the inspection process and repair negotiations, and he always kept us cool even when stress levels were high. After nightly calls with us, our lender, and our seller's realtor, he was there to give us the keys with champagne to celebrate. Unbelievable job from Robert, and 6 months later we are so happy where we are at and where we will continue to grow. We cannot thank him enough for his unbelievable work! On a closing note, we should mention that we before this experience we were not aware that there is a much more personal relationship between buyer and realtor compared to typical vendor interactions. Many hours are spent together in the car, at properties, and on the phone, all during which stress and emotions run high as you evaluate serious life decisions. We are pleased to report that not only is Robert a top notch professional, but also he is a great guy to hang out with, crack jokes, and share beers with. The process could have been miserable but Robert kept us laughing the whole time and we are pleased to report that we still keep in touch. read more

Robert made the home buying process for us as easy as you possibly can make it. Finding the right realtor is a huge deal- we were taking a loan out for hundreds of thousands of dollars and rooting ourselves in a new area. My wife and I were both excited and nervous ("rightfully worried" and "skeptical" about every single aspect of the process would be another way to put it). Robert put our minds at ease- he is extremely accommodating, helpful, polite, and relaxed. He truly has your interest at heart. He will guide you step by step through EVERYTHING and his response time is very fast (e-mail, phone, text). We started with building a list of potential homes to view through his MLS website where you will get daily updates on new listings. Robert will then send you a google maps link of all the homes you will view with him in a logical order. When you arrive, he'll state the facts and then let you be. He does not push or try to sell anything. Robert has been a realtor for a long time and knows San Diego very well: the "good" areas, where the future gentrification and growth will be, etc. If you are searching for a Condo, he is intimately familiar with all the ins and outs of HOAs (he's been on his HOA board for over a decade). He will go through all those documents with a fine tooth comb and let you know if there are any red flags and the overall health of the HOA (activity, reserve funds, etc). Honestly, we bombarded Robert with probably a million different questions from home insurance to recommendations on home repairs, and he happily answered them. Over the last 20 years, my family has worked with Robert on multiple real estate transactions. He remains the first person we call when anything real estate related comes up. His expertise (and background) is much broader than just being an agent and he has assisted us with aspects of financing, inspection, insurance, etc. -- the list goes on and on. Robert orchestrated a recent purchase of a highly desirable home in South Orange County. He used every possible avenue to make sure the seller and listing agent knew my family and how much we wanted the home. The property went up for sale at end of 2022 during the busy holiday season and when the real estate market was down due to rising mortgage rates. I couldn't have done it without him. My mom in San Diego died suddenly, and we had to sell her house. I had just had major surgery and could not travel to San Diego from Washington state for at least 12 weeks. Robert handled the whole thing for me. From installing fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to finding a cleaning crew, to attracting potential buyers and creating a 3D tour of the house.
