I found Dr. Helbich as a last ditch effort thanks to ZocDoc on a particularly low/chaotic sunday morning.. First delight he actually DID have an appointment for that VERY same day (his office hours are friday-monday) which simply put is an EXTREMELY rare occurrence to obtain a same day appointment for therapy anywhere let alone Manhattan in which month long waiting lists are more common than not, let alone having WEEKEND & evening hours!! I easily booked through ZocDoc and within the hour he called me. His calming demeanor over the phone and genuine empathy even when acquiring basic information via the phone immediately put me at ease with my anxiety. He also confirmed the appointment time as well as discussed his rate and informed me that although he isn't in network with my insurance that he would be happy to provide me an invoice for me to submit for reimbursement. He also provided detailed instructions oh how to get to his office which is VERY convienietly located in the village. I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that Dr. H is THE most empathic, KNOWLEDGABLE, compassionate, dedicated, solutions based, insightful, honest, brilliant, genuinely cares & wants to help, very understanding, seemingly endlessly patient, ALWAYS punctual which I particularly appreciate considering my schedule is usually pretty tight/varies from week to week. He also is a very active/engaged listener and has provided me with invaluable insights and strategies that have proven very helpful with the delicate yet extremely traumatic issues that are on my horizon. I have never looked forward to seeing a therapist before however Dr. Helbich really has been able help me in a multitude of ways that I am eternally grateful and actually do look forward to our sessions as a reprieve even though the next layers of our journey together are extremely daunting on the horizon. With Dr. B, it's real-talk all the way, which has allowed me to identify my problem areas and make significant progress towards becoming my best self. I'm a busy person and want to see results from my efforts and the expenditure of my resources (i.e. money) so it's refreshing to work with a doctor who is aligned with those interests. * His help is custom-tailored to who I am as a person. I can't speak for his other patients, but I've found that Dr. B doesn't provide me with canned answers, which my previous psychiatrists have done. Instead, he took the time to observe my mannerisms, my perceived problems, etc. in order to provide personalized advice and therapy. * He's there for me. I have literally called and/or texted Dr. B on the weekends or late evenings, and he is always available to help as needed. I'm careful not to overstep my boundaries and only use this info in emergencies since I don't want to lose him as a doctor, but it's amazing to know that he's always there for me when I need him. I never felt like Dr.Buggie was a 'pill-pusher' and my only other experience with a psychiatrist had been bad, so I was relieved to find that he's great as a counselor as well as current and professional with medication. He leaves a lot of space for listening and what he does say is very thoughtful and to the point. He can be blunt, but he never comes across as judgmental. I felt able to speak honestly and be met with an open mind. Also his doggo Turok is so cute, his office is really nice, and the online scheduling is a breeze.

This is only a review of my experience. I presented to Mr. Cope for a first-time-ever couples counseling session. We went to Mr. Cope because my significant other sees him. Huge mistake. The only thing I can compare the session to would be having couples counseling with one of my significant other's friends. Actually, I think my s.o's friends would make more of an attempt to be unbiased. Mr. Cope made no effort to get to know me, my perspective, where I was coming from, who i am, etc. He reiterated the frustrations that my s.o. had spoken about privately with him and asserted them not as my s.o's interpretations of what was going on but as fact, and ultimately came off like he was pointing the finger. That was neither constructive nor helpful- we went to therapy because we are already quite good at finger pointing on our own. Furthermore, Mr. Cope, without getting to know my personality, feeling me out, or anything else, made a number of unprofessional "jokes" that made me uncomfortable. I was surprised that someone who works in this profession would not realize the importance of connecting with a person and learning their personality before jumping into jokes that ride the line between acceptable and not. My s.o. and I followed his advice and took a full day to let us absorb what was said in session. We went on to have a lovely rest of the night but the next day, once everything was "absorbed", it was like a grenade was set off between my s.o. and I. We had to then wade through what were words put in our mouths during session versus what was actually the truth between us. We are in worse shape for having tried counseling here. This is not to say that Mr. Cope was completely wrong. Some of his advice was sound and on point. My point is that a lot of it wasn't helpful, wasn't correct about us as individuals or what we are like in our relationship, and much of the session was a lecture. It seemed to me that Mr. Cope was unable to be an unbiased participant in the session because he already knew a lot about my s.o's perspective. I will not be returning.

He seemed nice enough and…read moreafter telling him about myself for 30+ minutes (personal things that I wouldn't feel comfortable telling someone who isn't my doctor) my appointment came to an end and his exact words were "does this time work for you?" To which I responded yes and left after asking the women at the desk if I needed to do anything else. I show up this week at the scheduled time and I'm told by the women at the desk he will be in shortly. I waited over 35 minutes before telling them to call him. I am then told he never put me down for an appointment... the level of incompetence is only rivaled by how uncomfortable I feel that I sat there pouring my heart out, only to now have to begin my search for another therapist. They should know how hard it is for people to seek help and this has been a very discouraging experience for me and a waste of time and money. I wish Jonathan all the best and I hope he works on his scheduling for his future patients.

He has been terrific in helping me get through my own mental laundry and setting goals. What I love about Ryan is that he's flexible. It's not just about weight loss or "therapy" per se, it's really what is helpful to you. He is non judgmental while helping to direct you to your own conclusions and goals. I enjoy his encouragement and feedback, but at the end of the day, decisions are my own to make. Obviously finding counseling is a very personal decision and usually "word of mouth". But if you are looking for someone who cares and can assist with self improvement, I highly recommend Ryan!
