He asks insightful questions and listens to your responses. Not once did I have a feeling that he was in a hurry. Because of my diabetes, I have a long list of meds. He was familiar with everything on the list and offered insights on how the diabetes meds might be affecting my mental health as well. I was indeed grateful that his first response was NOT to over-prescribe. Several years ago I was a zombie until I qualified for a 6-month study at NIMH, where the list was reduced to one med, with the prognosis that one would be added in a couple years, which happened. Dr. Luisada is in that school of proceeding with "informed caution." His practice is understandably full, but you would be well-served to be his patient.

I never thought I would find another one like him, however I was lucky to come across Dr Sternberg. He is a very great listener, and what I love about him is he never tries to over-talk you..... he actually takes his time and listens to what you want/need to talk about. I've been with him for about a year now, and I really love the convenience of talking to him on skype. We moved 3.5 hours away and I didn't have to change doctors, which we all know how hard that can be once your comfortable with one. If I could give Dr Sternberg 10 stars, I would! He is very soft-spoken, kind, and compassionate and he truly cares about his patients. I highly recommend Dr Sternberg to anyone who may need this type of service, you definitely will not be dissatisfied with him. If I send him a text, he always gets back to me too, which is something you don't find in a lot of psychiatrists.

After my first Dr had moved too far away, I have never felt like I was being listened to at any other practice, but here I was given total attention and the full allotment of my paid time. Dr. Jacobawitz is thurough when needed while understanding the importance of brevity on other topics. To the point without sacrificing empathy, willing to share his own thoughts without expecting you to automatically agree. After my first meeting I was releived to have finally found a provider that seems to take pride in their work and truly strive to put the best interests of patients first.

Worst mental health evaluation I have ever received. Where to start? This was back in 2018 and it…read morestill gets my goat. Upon entry to the facility, I was greeted and sat by Norm the NP, only to be immediately left by myself in his office (probably instructed to fill out some forms or BS survey for quick evaluation--as many mental health professionals tend to love to dole out). Shortly thereafter, I was joined in the room by some grad student (still no licensed professional present - Where had NP Jacobowitz gone?) who promptly asked for my life story regarding my mental health history, including very personal details. First of all, I was never asked for consent for a student to sit in--much less sit in, ALONE, without a professional present--so I guess that's on me for not questioning it at the time. Second, how could the professional himself expect to evaluate a patient to whom he'd not yet spoken? It makes no sense. Once lady grad student was done taking down my personal history, Jacobowitz returned to the room to "diagnose" me and offer advice. Advice included drastically altering my then-current medications, encouraging me to be selfish, making me feel like my employer (with whom I held a personal relationship) cared nothing for me, judging my lifestyle, and overall causing me extreme discomfort. I have no idea where the positive reviews prior to mine came from, but I was fooled into seeing this guy after many years of fear caused by similarly heinous psychiatric appointments with ACTUAL doctors. If you've been through this routine, you undoubtedly know how scary it can be to entrust a brand new person with such extremely sensitive and personal aspects of your life. As soon as I left the building I burst into tears. Pretty sure that's a bad sign.

Dr. S. took so much time with me in talking through the options since my therapy was going to be more of a, "one time deal" as opposed to ongoing therapy for more permanent and pervasive problems. I so appreciated his care. I cannot tell you how much better the experience was because of him. I still had some pain, but the combination of Valium and ketamine made the entire experience almost pleasant with a few stinging moments. You don't know what you are going to walk into when you look online for "pain relief near me," and having been disappointed that my dentist could not offer basic things like Valium I really felt lost and overwhelmed. One major drawback of the GW MFA Department of Psychiatry is that they operate on a cash only basis. So visits are expensive, you have to pay out of pocket and then submit the receipt to your insurance on your own. This effectively shuts out most HMO patients but your PPO might give you some kind of reimbursement for your visit.
