Came here for Sexy Nerd event and we had a negative experience. To begin, we get in line and security tells my friend she can't bring her clear backpack in to the venue, which was specifically made for raves. However, the girl behind is carrying a mini loungefly backpack was allowed in. We tried arguing our case, and the security guard went over to her boss who didn't so much as look at us and he shook his head no. So we felt very discriminated against. We had to walk all the way back to the garage at Rivers Casino to put her bag in my car. One of our friends that we met up with was telling us that the manager charged them $10 on cashapp so they could bring their bag in. When we got back it was easy getting in. We were impressed by the outdoor indoor vibe this place had, but the staff working behind the bar were the worst. The one woman wearing fish net stockings and a onesie was incredibly rude. We stood there trying to make eye contact with her and she deliberately avoided us and served other patrons. They had no drink menu, so we had to think of what to ask for. The bartenders were incredibly unhelpful in telling us what drinks they could make. If you're just looking for a beer, they only have three beers to pick from: Corona, Heineken, and Bud Light. $8 each. My friend fell down the stairs going to the dance floor. There needs to be more lighting around the stairs, especially for an event like this where people are dressed up. The dance floor itself was scary. As people were jumping up and down you could feel the whole floor bob up and down. It made us feel very uneasy, like we were going to fall through the floor. Was here for a Pride event. A nice venue was absolutely tarnished by terrible management and staff. They kept a tacky cigar bar open in the middle of the venue and forced us to walk through it, where slurs were hissed, to get to the other parts of the venue. They tried to block us from getting our stuff at the end of the night. The staff was unprepared and the management failed to supply things the promoter paid for like diet drinks or even club soda, or heating the pool for the daytime event. Maybe with new owners or a rebrand it would be worth going to, but while it's Roar don't bother patronizing this place. read more

I went here for a day party and it was trash. The claimed it was more than one bar it's only one bar. They're was supposed to be food. Didn't tell anyone how to order. Found out word of mouth that we had to order from the girl by the door. No Vendors like it said But all the had was breakfast sandwiches and shrimp and grits. People just standing around. Nobody was in the little pool that they had. I mean tiny.then we paid 55 dollars they said at 10:51 it was last call for open bar. We were in line already for our last drink and of course by the time we got our turn it was 11:06 no more open bar even though the people in front of us had the girl remake the drink three times. There basic drinks cost 14 dollars for a basic cocktail. I feel like they basically scammed people out of there money. Especially when the event didn't event start on time. Saying 9am sharp. I didn't get in until 9:45. And it smells like mildew when you first walk in. I'm honestly the way the kept up with this place was trash. But the one bartender I had was very nice and she can make drinks. But that other girl that was at the bar with that was extra skinny light skin she wasn't nice. Went here for a Pride event. Staff were obviously unprepared for the volume of attendees. Then they became rude and homophobic. By the end of the night, they tried to tell people that they couldn't retrieve their bags and clothes from coat check. Had to threaten to call the police to get our belongings back. Corny. suggestion: CHARGE extreme PRICES WHEN YOU CREATE VALUE. There's no value created here - at least when I went. If you want one of their OVERPRICED $95 hookahs you need to pay for a $250 minimum section. So you can't get a hookah without a section which is weird. Yo there was literally 15 people I can count in the establishment. Dont want to dedicate a section at 4 pm that's cool but have bar tables or something. Otherwise, why am I there? No food, weak drinks and dollar tree decor. We left, I'm ready to spend but no, I'm not spending $400 to sit down and smoke hookah when it's a ghost town. There's better places in Philly. read more

DON'T GET A SECTION HERE!!!! We went 05/27 for a birthday. I reserved a section prior to arriving, which required a $100 deposit that I was told would be refunded once I arrive. The $100 was not taken off my bill and a month later, and despite multiple attempts to retrieve my deposit, I still have not received my deposit back. Despite paying my entire tab plus a tip for our bottle girl. I know it is just $100 but it is the principle of it all. If they are renting out 10 sections a night, that's $1000 that they are stealing from people. Not to mention when we went, the club was DEAD as hell playing generic 2000s music. read more

Roar reminded me of partying at a tourist spot....like Vegas or Miami based on the crowd, vibe and music you don't feel out of place. Of course it's not Vegas or Miami level but those other factors (crowd, vibe, music) gets 2 thumbs up from me! read more

I joined Yelp for the sole purpose of reviewing this establishment. Roar is without a doubt the worst venue I have ever had the misfortune of entering. The way we were treated as a group by the staff was absolutely insane. I understand the need for heightened security processing in venues like this, but they took it way too far. While we waited for 30-45 minutes outside of the (reserved) venue, I watched many people be inappropriately searched in an effort to check them for contraband. Again, I appreciate the desire to ensure the safety of the venue, but in my opinion reaching up a girls' skirts in search of a vape or a shooter is not making anyone safer. This was an extremely uncomfortable start to a night that did not improve much from there. Once in the venue, we were not allowed to move away from the bar with a drink in our hand, meaning the majority of people were packed into a few small areas throughout the night. Staff would forcibly shove people back into the bar area if they attempted to leave with a drink to go to the dance floor, bathroom, etc. This did not make any sense, as Roar is a nightclub, and it made finding and hanging out with people very difficult. It is not an understatement when I say I felt trapped, like a sheep being herded by the meanest shepherds alive. Speaking of the bar, I was disappointed in the fact that midway through the event the bar staff literally doubled the price of the drinks? I had to pay $24 for a poorly-made vodka cranberry to numb the anxiety of feeling absolutely hated by the people who were working there. You know that feeling when you walk into a store right before it closes and you can just tell the cashier hates your guts? Attending an event at Roar felt exactly like that, except encounters with the staff lasted two hours instead of two minutes and had none of the faux-friendliness. I get not wanting to work this event and being annoyed by the group of people coming in, but at the same time it was unfair of them to treat us as poorly as they did the whole night. In an attempt to end this review on a more positive note, I will add that the place had cool vibes. If it weren't for the people working the event, I think we would have been able to have a much better time. However, I am firm in my belief that this venue should NEVER agree to host events like this again, and I would not recommend coming here on a regular night, either. Again, I know that to a certain extent the staff has to be strict with enforcing rules in order to ensure everyone's safety, and sometimes this can make them come off as way less friendly than they probably are. Despite this, I still expect to be treated with some level of dignity, and Roar failed to show even a crumb of respect to neither myself nor my peers at this event. In short, 0/10 would not recommend ever coming here. read more

Salom was great with arranging our bottle service and table via text/phone. It was way overpriced for a basic club and ambiance. We paid $864 for 2 bottles that came with a shared booth that had about 8 people already seated. We had to ask people to get up and move over so we could utilize our "half of the section" Anyone could walk in and out the VIP. It took over an hour for our bottles to come out which was an hour before the club closed so you can imagine the rush we felt, and only one girl delivered the 2 bottles. She was very frustrated and made me feel uncomfortable. She had us share the mixers that were already sitting on the table from the other party, God only knows how long they were sitting there and if they were safe. Be careful of the $100 deposit to reserve the table. If you are drinking, you may forget. I remembered when the mediocre server brought out the tab (the $100 was not deducted) I had to hunt her down several times until she finally brought out my $100. I have no problem spending money; however, this was not worth it. The server was nicer the last few minutes of the evening. read more

Literally the worst club experience I've ever had. Bought tickets for Swae Lee at 10 PM - he never came out. Bouncers were beyond rude and body slammed girls into walls to get to the bathroom. I went to get a drink from the downstairs bar and asked for a vodka soda the woman told the bartender Tito's and soda and I watched the bartender pour house vodka. I was talking to my friend about it (I didn't care enough to complain I was just not gonna order through her again) and after I had paid another worker who was next to the woman I ordered the drink from started to say "there is no need for the commentary" and began to argue with me. She kept saying well it's the same price so why does it matter, and again I was not complaining I was just telling my friend. It didn't involve her and I wasn't disrespecting anyone who worked there. When entering the club, there is an area to buy/smoke cigars before making way to the main dance floor. I met the owner when he approached me as I was looking at the available cigars. I expressed interest and asked to look at the cigars and buy one. I was met with an extremely rude demeanor. I was rather respectful through out the entire conversation but it started out with him saying "Hold on, don't be a dick". I don't know what prompted him to say that but I calmy waited with my girlfriend without making any response. He then asked for my ID, which I handed to him. He stared at the ID for a while, making me start to wonder if he was thinking there was a possibility of it being a fake (I am from out of state). However, it seems that he was completely bothered by an entirely different subject. When he finally speaks, he angrily starts to go off about how I am shorter than what my driver's license says. Admittedly, I think I am likely up to maybe almost half an inch shorter than what my ID says. This seemed to really strike a nerve with him (perhaps since he was around my height and didn't like the idea of my license saying I was taller than him). He proceeded to ridicule me about this. While I don't know how to convey the harness of his tone, his voice and language was rather unsettling to say the least. It felt a bit extreme to be cussed at over something like this. I decided I wanted to end my interaction with him as soon as possible and I grabbed my ID out of his hand and told him that I was no longer interested in buying a cigar before just walking away. I don't know if this is how he normally acts but I hope others are not treated as poorly as I was and that it was just a bad day for this guy. Regardless, it doesn't excuse how I was treated by him. I have no interest in supporting his business and hope he learns a little bit about how to just be a nice human being in general. After ruining my night, it's been 2 months and I haven't received my money back even after calling numerous times. Employees have been unprofessional and ineffective at doing their job. The best night club in Philadelphia if you decide to spend a night dancing and partying with friends. We went there with our friends for Bollywood night with DJ Goddess. The staff, service and security was top notch. Did not try the Cigar lounge downstairs but that is on the list for our next visit. read more

can this place, for the love of god, please figure out crowd management! don't say yes to high volume events if you take an eternity letting people in and have one singular background AND PLEASE GET MORE THAN ONE BATHROOM. for multiple venues there was one bathroom and our section was gatekept from entering line as the other rooms continued to join. been to two events here two years apart and so embarrassing that this establishment has not been able to figured out how to not be absolutely terrible and dehumanizing in that time. read more
