Super super friendly family we actually are going to attempt to make reservations for this weekend…read morefor last-minute getaway as a family as a disabled person with type one diabetes. I had a really difficult day that day. We had bad storms and we don't live far from the campground, a couple hours south, but between the storm that not down a tree in our yard, I helped clean up and struggling with my diabetes, and then as I was driving North, a bad lightning storm I wasn't getting any service. I didn't know what to do or where to go. I ended up not spending the night after all, but I can say that communications were wonderful and the facility is beautiful. I did my research before I made a reservation for myself and I was going alone and I haven't been anywhere by myself in 10 years especially since I've become disabled so I ended up having to make other accommodations for the night and didn't get the pleasure of this visit but hopefully there's gonna be something open this weekend and I couldn't have Astro better communication. I can't. I did try to communicate late at night in late into the evening, but they do close their office at five and because of struggles with my diabetes which they have to be dealt with. I can't help that and then the storms here I got a very late start and once I was on my way, and I ran into this lightning storm I had no reception and no visibility. My GPS wasn't working correctly with no reception and this is also in an area that was affected by hurricane Helene and there was flash flooding warnings on the way up to the campground so I did what was the safest best thing for me but I just wanted to say that the prices are wonderful and fair. The facilities is beautiful. The family is kind and very communicative and I will definitely update if we are able to get a spot there this weekend so that our family can go and going with My Husband. I won't have the inability to take care of everything on my Own due to my unique situation so we'll actually make it this time lol I would highly recommend and also I did make it up there the following morning for my getaway and we were all talking about the lightning storm at a couple of places that I went and I was saying what it happened and I didn't make it to my destination where I was gonna stay and everybody that was local was like oh that's the best one out of all of the campgrounds around here if you come back, you need to stay there for sure you missed out and even though you couldn't help it, you know they're an awesome family and they have the nicest place so I did have a good word from local people too, so I'm gonna get a highly recommend for now. I'm sure it will only improve after this weekend. Hopefully there's a spot for us.!

There are also Adirondack chairs along the river to hang out. The bathhouse was clean. There was a playground where kids were playing, badminton, horseshoes, and other games provided. Our friends stayed in the one bedroom cabin which was well equipped with a full kitchen, nice bathroom living room with fireplace and a king size bed in the bedroom. The cabin had a fire pit with four Adirondack chairs, next to the cabin Would definitely come back.

Let me first start by saying that this campground is absolutely beautiful. I have lived in this…read morearea my entire life and the Doe is one of my favorites. I am a avid camper and have camped all over this area. I decided to give this place a try, I own a small pop up camper and knew it was going to get cold 10/20/2026-10/22/2026, so me and my sister rented the RV at Doe River. #1 check in is not until 3pm, I always order a load of wood from a local guy who delivers to camp sites, I do all my cooking in a dutch oven over the fire or burgers and dogs in the fire, What is a camping trip without a nice warm fire. The owner came over to my campsite and asked if I had order this wood and I replied yes, She then asked what I was going to do with it all, I replied I am going to burn it. So I told Carl (the wood guy) where to stack it, The owner then said that I need to leave it in my truck bc if I didnt use it all I would have to put it back on my truck and take it home with me, I said really? It's just a unspoken rule that if you don't use all your wood that you pay it forward and leave it for the next camper?? She said absolutely not, So we moved the wood from his truck and into mine. She then asked again why I needed so much wood and that most ppl just buy small bundles from her. And just like that I understood! Carl the wood man and his wife also made a comment about how rude she was about the wood. It does not end there, Not only does she have camaras on some of the out blds which I get, but I don't get why they are pointing directly at camp sites, We felt like we were in a fish bowl the entire time. Every single time we went to the bathroom she showed up abt 5 mins later, There is a camara right above the bathroom door, One on the pavilion, and one on each side of the bathhouse, at the entrances and who know where else. So much for privacy in the great outdoors. I didn't even feel comfortable hiking, we felt like we were being watched constantly. She was constantly there, walking her dog which was not friendly and so big she could hardly control him on the leash which was really scary, she also was driving through several times throughout the day. Then came the kicker, about 1 o'clock in the morning we were freezing, I had turned the heat on in the camper before going to bed and heard it come on, Well the propane ran out between 11pm and 1am, I called her at least 10 times we had every blanket and was still freezing, We decided we would go to the bath house bc it had a mini split hanging on the wall, Out of luck there, it was set on air conditioning with no way to change it, so we found a blow dryer trying to get warm, still the entire time trying to call the owners, We finally ended up in our car until the husband arrived. He acted so annoyed at us and said all u have to do is fip the switch on the propane tanks outside! We had never stayed in a travel trailer before and according to them all we had to do was show up and start glamping!! So, I was supposed to know to go outside at 1 am and switch over propane tanks?? No, It should have been FULL when I got there!!! With attitude he said , "Its Basic Camping" No sir it's not, what I do is basic camping, I was told on the phone that I was glamping, She, the owner also said we should have called 911 when we could not get hold of them so that Carter County police officers could come and wake them up!!! Not sure if that is putting our tax dollars to good use?? Like I said it is truly a beautiful place and has great potential, But with owners like that they can keep it. Windy Wells/Debra Price

There are trails on the grounds that are fun to hike and the bathhouse was clean! Domes and little cabins looked adorable so we will be back to try those out. There is not a ton of privacy but it was not an issue at all! Would highly recommend!

The owner is great and the host (Mike) is beyond amazing! We've been camping there for 8 years and love it more each time we go. The camper spots are very spacious and C1-C3 are completely shaded. C3 is the best by far! But you have to book early because C3 is very popular! Some things to know before you go! They do not have water hookups at the sites - you fill your camper tank with water at the office area. They have spots with electric hookups. They have a dump station where you can empty your tanks on your way out. This is a simple & beautiful campground. There are trails to walk/hike, mountain view to see, bathhouse with 3 bathroom/showers, and one with just a bathroom. This is by far the cleanest bathhouse I have ever seen. They show great attention to this campground and make sure all their campers are happy. You can also purchase wood at the office. There are a few t-shirts for sale at the office, as well. If you haven't checked it out, you are truly missing out! This is a great place with great people!

Honey Bear was our home again this past weekend. It was a nice weekend of glamping tucked away…read morenearby Boone. This was our second stay and we really enjoyed it from the nice wooded winding road up the mountain to the fresh air all around the camp site. This time, sadly our stay had some issues because the line from the well to most of the water was out. That meant no showers, faucets, or toilet flushing without a bucket in the tank. We were okay with it, for the most part, since we brought hand sanitizer, extra bottles of water (brushing teeth, rinsing things off, etc.), and it is camping after all. The second night was even better when the sinks and toilets were working like normal. The staff communicated about this issue the evening before we were supposed to arrive and did give us a discount on firewood, as a result of the inconvenience. Our checkin was great though. Abby was AWESOME! She greeted us with enthusiasm, humor, and was very welcoming. She even gave us local recommendations for things to do. We had arrived just in time for free root beer floats and vanilla lattes in the campground coffee cafe. We put in our order for firewood and were off to our "Group Camp Site" tent area in the more private area away from the rest of the sites. Each night, we wandered around the campgrounds. Plenty of RV hookups. It seems like it's about half tent sites and half RV sites. We even wandered off the trails and found the area where they host haunted trails during the Halloween season. What a surprise! Beautiful starry nights and funny to see ducks and geese wandering around the grounds. Saturday night, they showed a movie, but we didn't get back in time to watch "A Bug's Life" on the lawn. Nice little community. We had our own space to have good fun and a late cookout, but also were conveniently located to cars, the coffee cafe, not too far from the bathhouse, and a nice little walk up the street to a petting zoo.

Everything was great here! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They went above and…read morebeyond. As well as the camp site its self it was well kept together and very nice.
