I had quite a journey with RMA and am ultimately landing on a review between 4 and 5 stars. It's hard for any practice to achieve perfection in fertility treatment - there are so many interactions and variables. I visited RMA over 25 times during my care across 3 different locations. But overall, it came together well and I left feeling like RMA was in my corner and delivered on their promise. I'm very grateful to them for helping us. Doctors Our initial interactions with RMA doctors were not good. Some of the older doctors in the practice are very condescending and controlling - one said some very offensive things to us. Stuff that would make your jaw drop. We considered terminating care but ultimately contacted the practice manager who took our concerns very seriously and we switched to another RMA doctor who we liked right away. This doctor created a very personalized treatment plan and helped us make the right choices at each stage of the process. He also kept me safe through very close monitoring during a very long IVF stim process where I was at very high risk of OHSS and had 10 visits in 14 days. Financial counseling RMA has a robust financial counseling department that gave us accurate information about our costs and took swift action with preapprovals and insurance. In addition, I had to submit some appeals to my insurance and they produced supportive materials / letters swiftly. I received an insane bill from a third party for the anesthesia and they were on it right away - it was a mistake. Our personal financial breakdown: Procedures and appointments $25 copays PGT testing $3000 (optional) Embryo biopsy $1700 (optional) Meds $2200 Insurance paid for everything else Nursing and medical assistant care We had good interactions with nurses and MAs and some of the MAs started to treat us like friends over time. One area that could use improvement is the prior authorization process for drugs - this is managed by MAs and there is no direct line to patients for questions and concerns. "You can't speak to them but we can pass along a message." I had a complex situation (two insurances with different rules) and really needed personalized help. I eventually - through sheer willpower - figured out who to speak to and their email address (and they were happy to help) and got them to submit the right authorizations but by then it was too late. I paid $2200 out of pocket for my meds and the next week an insurance approval letter arrived. Nothing was reimbursed because the approval came too late. Focus on patient comfort IVF treatment is not comfortable but it doesn't have to be traumatic and you should be in control. At RMA in my experience, if you don't advocate for yourself, you may find yourself in physically uncomfortable situations, usually mild but it was definitely upsetting for me at times. For example, if you prefer to insert the ultrasound wand or if you want Valium for procedures - you will have to know to ask. I expressed that I didn't want to do 9 weeks of IVF progesterone shots and my doctor agreed to do a natural cycle - had I not asked, it might not have been offered. Some doctors at RMA don't do any natural cycles. I also turned down the hysteroscopy procedure because of anticipated discomfort and they were not happy - I had to really put my foot down. Eventually they offered to do it under anesthesia to try to convince me, I still said no. My mock transfer and FET transfer were also tricky, taking almost 20 minutes each, and they did present me with options like Valium and even anesthesia for the FET after the mock transfer left the doctor sweating but I had to ask. One other thing I noticed that really bothered me is that the receptionist asks male patients dropping off sperm if they've abstained from sex SO LOUDLY that everyone in the waiting room can hear. Give the guy a little privacy, come on. Communication I was pleased with the communication processes from RMA. There are multiple ways to receive your results and there is always someone to answer your questions. If they say they're going to call, they always do. Instructions for medication administration are thorough and you always know what to expect. Overall result RMA delivered on their promise and got me pregnant with one round of IVF, which is what they expected (they said it was about a 70% chance per round if you do PGT testing). I would recommend them to other patients with the caveat that you should have a perspective on what you want, pick the doctor that suits you, and stick up for yourself. read more

I wish I can rate more than 5. From day 1 to my last day of visit, I never had any complaint with RMA. RMA deserves more than than 5 ratings. Most of the time I deal with Dr Thorne and he is great doctor who talk straight to the point. We had success with this clinic. Denise is always sweet when she called to give results. All other girls with whom I met in Langhorne or KOP are also nice and sweet. I would recommend this clinic everyone who is looking for fertility help. read more

Dr. Castelbaum is probably the best doctor I've ever dealt with. He is genuinely compassionate and knows about all things fertility. I treated with Dr. Castelbaum for a year and a half and always felt like he was in my corner rooting me on. I came to him not as a new infertility patiemt, but as someone who'd been through the ropes before, and he never spoke down to me or treated me with anything less than respect and patience. Throughout the 2 IVF miscarriages I experienced during treatment, Dr. Castelbaum was there for me 100%, even when I cried and cursed and had a less than positive attitude. He always fit me in for last minute appointments and even daw me for non-treatment visits when u had concerns. I highly recommend Dr. Castelbaum and RMA of Philadelphia. From the very beginning we sensed that the office was a different kind of place - we were always greeted by name and treated as individuals. The nurses and staff are absolutely amazing! That personal touch makes all the difference when you're exhausted and overwhelmed with yet another hormone check or ultrasound. They really eased our experience with their positivity and lightning fast visits! My experience at the longhorn office was okay.There was times when I felt the staff in the front desk were rude and not helpful considering the reason why we're there with our struggles.The consultation with the doctor was great in the beginning, which was investment to get you to become a patient. After conceiving on my own and no longer needed to proceed with the plan that never took place because I conceived before anything could be put into place.I was told that I was a difficult patient because I refuse to do as the doctor suggested. But for my understanding the doctors are there to give you advice not make choices for you and due to the fact that I refuse to get the booster for my own personal reasons I became a difficult patient all of a sudden which was a personal choice. I decided to leave my involvements with that clinic that same day. I am Nurse myself and don't believe that there such things as difficult patient. The doctors are put in place with their position to advise us but not to force anything on us at the end of the day we are the ones that should be having the final decision on what's best for are health.This was not given to me. I refuse to allow anyone to be in charge of my life but myself.I know.I know my body and what's best for me. I'm currently pregnant and have a healthy baby inside me and the decisions that I have made to get my baby here will be my decisions and nothing will be placed on me if it's uncomfortable with me. read more

If you are a woman / couple who cares about herself, her well-being and her money, DO NOT GO TO RMA! I went to see Dr. Castlebomb . He sits you in a fancy room smiles in your face reassures you that everything is going to be great and basically sells you a dream. Once you're locked in, they schedule a few standard bloodwork procedures an HSG test to check your Fallopian tubes. Once they get the ball rolling and start with the tests, no one calls you back to give your results . After me having to call the office 5 times , a nurse called me to give me my results telling me I have to go into emergency surgery to remove a fallopian tube. Something didn't sound right to me because when I started asking her questions, she seemed unsure of her answers. I didn't sleep all weekend imagining that I had to have emergency surgery. When I called back on A Monday asking to speak with the DR. , They said that he would call me back but did not. Throughout that week I kept calling, they kept taking messages, and again no one called me back. Finally Dr. Castlebomb reached out to me after a week of phone calls. Telling me the complete opposite that he's not sure that I have to get surgery or have the tube removed. He said he would call me back in a few days with the final review. One month later, again calling them constantly, no one got back to me. Then I asked to speak to whoever runs the office. They reluctantly put me on the phone with a woman named Christine who kept telling me they are going to resolve and how sorry she is , how she completely understands and this is Unacceptable, and she will call me after investigating. Same conversation, she told me that going forward I cannot expect to speak to the doctor whenever I want and if I do need to talk to him, I would need to schedule an office visit (which I would get charged for). I certainly don't expect the doctor to call me every single day, however when you're paying 20+ thousand dollars for IVF, I do expect a level of care and explanation and consistency. This place is basically run like a cheap department store of fertility clinics. The nurses and staff is extremely dismissive. No one calls you back. They try to move things along very quickly and get you in as many tests and nursing consults so they can bill you . Which by the way they do not spell out what is being covered by your insurance and what is not.I do not want any woman to go through the trouble of going in wasting their time at a place that is simply just trying to take your money. So please do your research and ask around . I did find another fertility clinic which is the complete opposite and incredible and now on my way to creating embryos . I started my IVF journey in 2016. I have been to 3 different fertility clinics and highly recommend RMA. Dr. Castelbaum is fantastic and tells you the truth from the beginning about your chances and where you stand. Through each cycle he was extremely straightforward, caring, and has your best interest. He listens to everything you say and answer every question you have (no matter how many times you feel as you repeat yourself). Denise, one of the nurses also takes her time and will review everything with you and also answer every question. As stressful as this process is, the whole staff make it a very welcoming and comforting place to go through this. All staff members: front desk, nurses, doctors, embryologists, are friendly professional and willing to listen. The other 2 places I went to, one was rude and told me I needed surgery or coils implanted (which are permanent) if I ever want to get pregnant and the other told me I may have cancer. Neither were accurate. RMA gave me a beautiful son and I am now pregnant with my second son when I had a very low success rate. I would recommend RMA 100% read more

I found out 14 years ago that I have PCOS and from then worried I may never carry my own child. My husband and I spent a few years trying on our own until we finally asked for a recommendation to a fertility specialist and were sent to Dr. Castelbaum. From the first meeting I was instantly comfortable. Before seeing bloodwork, medical records or doing any type of exam, he knew right away how to help and was so confident. He was kind, gentle in telling me the things I knew I needed to hear and told me he was going to help me reach my goal. For the first time I felt it was possible and my dream of becoming a mother was going to happen. Through all of the treatment, which was an emotional rollercoaster I could have never prepared for, he and his staff were beyond amazing. They explained every step of the way, comforted me when I cried, greeted me with a huge smile every visit like I was their only patient and kept me going. And I can now say I am almost three months pregnant!! The only downside is that I don't get to go to his office anymore as I have now "graduated" as Dr. Castelbaum puts it.
