It'd been a loooong time since my last haircut. In my extensive search to find the best place to…read moreget my locks trimmed in Iowa City, I stumbled upon Nova Salon. I didn't have a specific stylist in mind, so I was matched up with Irina. I believe I called on a Wednesday and was able to get an appointment for a few days later. I was Irina's last appointment on a Saturday afternoon, but you never would have known. She was very friendly, listened to what I had to say, and gave lots of great advice. I left with the exact haircut I asked for. Have I been able to style it the way Irina did? Heck no. That requires talent I simply don't have. Irina taught me a lot about my hair - what to do with the random grays that make an appearance, the type of hair I have, etc. Seriously, what she taught me was totally worth the price paid; aside from the actual haircut itself. The salon is super clean and inviting. Lots of natural light, especially at Irina's station because of where she's located. They do sell hair products including Amika (which I personally like). I had no idea how much it was going to cost (around $75 with tip) for a women's cut, as prices aren't posted online. I suppose I could have asked when I scheduled my appointment, but it didn't really matter to me. I'm someone who gets her haircut 1x per year. Recommend. I'll definitely make a return visit.

I've lived in Iowa City for the past 4 years and finally found a place to cut my hair. Prices are very reasonable, and dare I say cheap! I've tried every stylist in town. Others are either too expensive, too quick or sloppy. Style Mi Salon was perfect. Men's haircut with scissors including a wash. You won't find this quality elsewhere!

Then when it came time to pay, I was told a different price and I paid more than others and what I was originally told because I was American and not African. I wish I could make that up but it's the simple truth. The braiding that was done was an okay job but I would definitely take my business somewhere else next tine.

Torrie was very welcoming when we walked in. She asked if we wanted her to wear a mask, even though she has been vaccinated, and when we said we'd prefer that, she went and put it on and said she'd note our preference. My mom getting inches of hair cut off helped her feel like herself again. And Torrie was so understanding about how important hair is. My mom's cut was perfect for her; I haven't seen her smile so much (after we left) in such a long time. And with her health issues, we are so grateful for Torrie's willingness to wear a mask because in my mom's town, rates of vaccination and mask wearing are abysmal. I told Torrie the one thing I wanted in my haircut and said, "I trust you to make it look good and feel right." Gee, she sure did! I'm so happy with my cut and we will both definitely be back. Torrie healed both me and my mama's souls today by providing us with excellent hair cuts and a master class in empathy and kindness.

He is extremely thorough, takes his time, and is very particular with getting the look just right. He also makes sure my boys and I have the styles we want, rather than a "cookie cutter" haircut. I regularly change styles and Dusty does awesome every time. For my boys, one likes a prominent taper on the sides, one has hair to his shoulders, and one boy likes to bleach and fade. Whenever friends say they need a good haircut, I always recommend Dusty!
