It'd been a loooong time since my last haircut. In my extensive search to find the best place to get my locks trimmed in Iowa City, I stumbled upon Nova Salon. I didn't have a specific stylist in mind, so I was matched up with Irina. I believe I called on a Wednesday and was able to get an appointment for a few days later. I was Irina's last appointment on a Saturday afternoon, but you never would have known. She was very friendly, listened to what I had to say, and gave lots of great advice. I left with the exact haircut I asked for. Have I been able to style it the way Irina did? Heck no. That requires talent I simply don't have. Irina taught me a lot about my hair - what to do with the random grays that make an appearance, the type of hair I have, etc. Seriously, what she taught me was totally worth the price paid; aside from the actual haircut itself. The salon is super clean and inviting. Lots of natural light, especially at Irina's station because of where she's located. They do sell hair products including Amika (which I personally like). I had no idea how much it was going to cost (around $75 with tip) for a women's cut, as prices aren't posted online. I suppose I could have asked when I scheduled my appointment, but it didn't really matter to me. I'm someone who gets her haircut 1x per year. Recommend. I'll definitely make a return visit. read more

I randomly decided to get my hair dyed today and so I searched up salons near me and Nova salon popped up. And boy am I happy I decided to go to nova! It literally was my best decision of the day! I walked in with no appointment and they got me in 5 mins later!!! I wanted BLUE!!! Hair BRIGHT BLUE!!! When Irina saw me she immediately educated me on how BLUE hair wouldn't suit my skin tone and how it wouldn't be a good investment, she was telling me all about the pros and cons!! And make me feel really cared for! She didn't just throw a color on me that would damage and waste my money, she took the time to study my hair, the way I styled my hair, what products I use, to make the best decision on what I should get done to it! We went with PURPLE!!!! And it looks AMAZING! I'm so in love with it!! Irina was super educated, very sweet and made me feel like her own daughter making sure I was making a good choice in what I was doing! I also got a hair cut I've been struggling with what kind of cut i should do that would complement my face and she hit the nail right on the head with the hair cut too! She was so amazing and so so so good at her job! I think I've found my forever salon!!! The salon was so cute and clean!!! I was nervous to try a new salon but I wanted to get my hair done while at school before I head home for the holidays. I made an appointment and they were able to get me in for a cut and color very soon. Irina did my balayage and haircut and it turned out exactly how I wanted it, if not even better. Bleaching, toning, cutting, and styling my hair takes a long time (over 4 hours no matter where I go) but Irina continued to take each step with as much patience and precision as possible. My hair is now perfectly balayaged at a great price and I do not feel my hair was damaged in any way. I highly recommend Irina for anyone nervous about trying out a new salon and your expectations will be exceeded! read more
