    1 lb of brisket

I had been seeing the posts about RJ's and wanted to try it. Now before I go on, I lived in Central Texas for 14 years so im accustomed to a different style bbq. I saw the pictures he posted and figured I would give it a shot. The ordering was easy, through Doordash, free delivery and got here in great time. 1. Sausage- great taste- was expecting a little more spice from the jalapeno sausage but over great. 2. Chicken- Moist, great color and daughters loved it 3. Pork Ribs- good flavor, everything fell off the bone, and im not used to that but overall they were ok. 4. Potato Salad- great flavor, but in my opinion lacked a base, like mustard it was too dry 5. Brisket- Ok, in looking at what he had on the website and what was deliverd i was shocked. (See Pictures) We received the brisket as one piece, not sliced, no bark, in my opinion lacked flavor. Overall was not impressed by it. I will once again say I am used to a certain style BBQ, and unfortunely for the price we paid will not be heading back. Before I get bashed, I know BBQ is expensive. Thank you RJ's for the BBQ, but just not my cup of tea.

Visited this establishment on a Saturday afternoon. This is a fairly new business that hasn't been discovered. The establishment is clean and cozy. Not to big with 7 family tables. Perhaps if they were all full, it might get a little crowded. The staff was friendly and helpful. Their prices are within the BBQ limits. They have a variety of choices for sandwiches but, I wish they had single and double meat plates, ordering the family meal or separate meats can get expensive The Brisket was sliced thick and was moist and tasty. The Ribs were a little different. They were thick, tender and moist. Not burned by the BBQ sauce. It felt more like roast pork and the BBQ sauce wasn't vinegary. The BBQ beans were tasty from using pieces of brisket. Over all, they claim to be "The best BBQ in town". I can't claim it as my favorite but for Brownsville, it is the best I had so far! I will continue to patronize this establishment.

THIS IS THE MUNCHER! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT IF YOU ARE SUPER HUNGRY OR IF YOU WANT TO SHARE THIS WITH SOMEONE SPECIAL!!!

We arrived for an early lunch and tried the brisket and mixture so we could have both lean and fatty. Most everything is a la carte, so if you're used to making fajitas or tacos out of everything you will need to buy a package of freshly made, freshly heated tortillas, beans, and ask for cilantro and onions. I had to purchase a mild and a habanero salsa as well. Overall, we had a great experience as we dined in one of the corner tables. Service was friendly and like family. The food was so delicious but let's face it, this is not craft central Texas bbq partly because the food is smoked using mesquite and there is the mexican influence being so close to the border. Because of this, although the brisket was delicious in its own way the star of the show is the barbacoa here. It's so good its addicting. This is without saying, but Vera's is a must stop if you're coming to Brownsville for any reason.

Hard to pass this place up. A friend had experience with dynamite and knew where to get enough for my crude purposes. Amazingly quick and easy to create a hole in the ground. I doubt that's how Vera dug hers even if this is Texas. My own system imho was better, likely because I applied my creative talent almost exclusively to chivos and wild pigs. But the bbq here is great to be sure with a lingering aftertaste that somehow tells you it's not been cooked in a backyard Weber. Indescribably essential experience if you're in the area.

If you're now sure what to order or how to order just ask the staff they are super friendly and excited to help try some delicious bbq! I truly love this spot the fun old school vibes here remind me of home! Tahoe to be exact! Super fun for family or big party's as there's lots of room for dinning and plenty of TVs to keep everyone entertained! I ordered half pound of brisket and half pound of chopped brisket with sauce with sides of hot bbq beans and potato salad and couple slices of bread. The brisket was pretty moist big old smoke ring and bursts with that Smokey flavor! The thin slices with some bbq sauce just melts in your mouth! The chopped brisket with sauce was fantastic too paired all this with some pickles and bites of the little jalapeños chefs kiss! Baked beans were really good and the potato salad was a nice touch too! I'll definitely be back for some cold beers and super bomb bbq!

They're rather expensive for the amount you get. We got smallest sizes and was plenty w all the other food. The "Sissy" sauce and Original Rudy sauce don't taste like a lot of BBQ type sauces. We liked the flavor of the Sissy sauce best but both were good. 2 things we won't get again- The corn on the cob was chewy and tasted way overdone. The flavor was good if was cooked properly. We, also, got the Brisket. We compare every brisket we have to Willie's in Alamo because have never had bad brisket at Willie's over several years. The Rudy's brisket was more like jerky, dry and chewy. The flavor was good though and we do like jerky, just was hoping for Willie's style brisket. Whe
