Just had dinner here for the first time. Chicken piccata and shrimp scampi were both excellent. Very flavorful, with a fresh green salad and very tasty hot bread sticks. Had a pizza for New Years evening. It was ordered by phone and I picked it up for home consumption at 5:30pm. Who ever was the pizza maker that late afternoon did a horrible job. It was burned underneath. The onions must have been the small black things. They were burned to be black. In the past, your Italian sausage was not pieces of sliced sausage, as we received on the 31st. Your sausage was delicious pieces and was put on the pies as bits taken by hand from ground Italian sausage. Restaurant was not crowded. I did noticed seven phone-in orders posted behind the cashier. So, was this pizza your new standard? I hope not. Please get after that pizza maker. You have been much better in the pizza category. read more

We came to Rizzo's to celebrate one of my kids birthdays. Naturally, we had to try the pizza and it was good! They give you complementary breadsticks which I wish I would have known before we ordered mozzarella stick (which were bomb) and garlic bread. I would have switched to something else to try because the garlic bread and breadstick are basically the same, and taste basically the same. They were both warm and had a hefty amount of herbs but they definitely needed more salt. However, they did taste homemade, which is good. We got three pizzas to share. Pepperoni, pepperoni and black olive and the Margherita. The first two were excellent. Wonderful flavors. The Margherita was alright. I loved that they used fresh sliced and then baked tomatoes on top, but the pizza was under cooked and a little raw in places. Not ideal. My hubby wanted to try the veal parmesan because it's one of his faves, but they were out so he had the chicken and he liked it. The restaurant is small yet still sits a fair amount of people. Just over the NC/SC border in Indian Land, about a 30-minute drive from Uptown Charlotte if traffic cooperates, Rizzo's Spaghetti House feels like a trip back in time. This is the kind of American-Italian spot your parents took you to as a kid or where you'd end up with your teammates after a rec league game, still in uniform and riding a post-game high. It's casual, affordable, and consistent, with friendly service that makes you feel at home. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a classic American-Italian restaurant: pasta, parmigiana, subs, and what they claim to be New York-style pizza. I didn't try the pizza this time, but what I did have hit all the familiar comfort notes. The complimentary breadsticks that come with an entrée order had a fluffy texture with a crisp bite, buttery and dusted with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. They were served with a piping hot side of marinara, which was mildly sweet with just the right amount of acidity. If you tend to get heartburn or reflux from overly tangy red sauces, this one is a safe bet. The side salad was your standard garden mix of romaine, raw red onions, olives, and tomatoes, served with a ramekin of dressing. Nothing fancy, but it did the job as a fresh start to the meal. For my main, I went with the Eggplant Parmigiana. It came with six medium-thickness rounds of eggplant, fried and baked, then smothered in their house-made marinara and topped with plenty of melted mozzarella. It was served with a small side of penne with sauce, and I was given the option to swap out the pasta type. The pasta itself was commercially made, not house-made, but it worked just fine. Service was friendly and attentive. My waitress, Chloe, checked in regularly and made sure everything was to my liking. The best part? My meal, including a drink, tax, and tip, came out to just over $20, making this an easy pick for a no-frills, budget-friendly dinner. Would I drive 30 minutes just to eat here? Probably not. But if I were in the area and craving a comforting, nostalgic American-Italian meal, I'd stop in again, if not for the food, then for the familiar feeling of a place that reminds me of where my family used to eat when I was a kid. read more

This really is a cute little place. Wife and I showed up fairly late one evening reasonably close to closing so we were almost the only ones in the restaurant. Still, they were friendly, seated us without whining and took our order. I wouldn't say the service was not outstanding but it was very friendly in a hometown, casual sort of way. Very comfortable little place. Definitely not your high-end hoity-toity Italian restaurants like in the big cities. We had chicken fricassee and the chicken Marcella. The food we ordered was really very good. Prices seemed reasonable. It's been a little while since we've been here, but I realized I've been remiss and not posting this review. Rizzo's does not disappoint. Our family orders take out from Rizzo's on a regular basis since the food is so delicious. The Joeys stuffed chicken is so tasty, especially the side of risotto and sautéed vegetables. I love the meat lovers pizza, so tasty! The Eggplant rollatini is delectable, fully cooked and not bitter. Love the bolognese sauce in any entrees. Get the house vinaigrette with the included side salad. Worst Italian wannabe restaurant in North & South Carolina. The service absolutely SUCKED along with not having enough menus ( that were disgustingly dirty). Our wine was opened in the kitchen not in front of us. My pasta dish had a black hair in it ( I'm bald) when we went to pay the owner / cook came out and accused me of putting the hair in my dish. Great little Italian restaurant in Indian land, I've been here a couple of times with my parents and while they haven't been too busy when I was there, the service was good. My dad got coffee and it was an Italian roast, so it was very dark and bold in flavor. I had the daily special which was Cajun penne pasta, which was full of flavor and had a generous portion of meat in it, but was not too spicy. The entrées came with a small salad which was your standard garden style salad, and the table received bread sticks with marinara sauce which was good. The place was clean, the food was good, as was the service...I would definitely go back and try something new, as the pizza menu looks very good. read more

OK to start off we just moved here from New York and have tried already three places in the area for Italian food. First off. I have to say the service was great. The food was AWFUL. as soon as it came out and I saw the color of the tomato sauce I knew right away. This was not going to be good. We all ended up taking one bite of our food and asked for boxes to take it home and $140 later we dumped all the food in the bin behind the restaurant that's how bad it was, it had absolutely no taste and I really need to know where to find some decent Italian food in this area. The restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere with outstanding staff. The garlic Bread with mozzarella cheese is very good. The fried Cheese ravioli is delicious. Strongly recommend getting this. We just walk out of this Restaurant in disbelief. While waiting for a table (it was extremely busy) my husband & i witnessed a waitress remove 2 bread plates from a dirty table and place those plates back on the stack of Clean plates to be used on tables. This is without being cleaned, washed, or wiped off and done right in front of us! Now if this happening on the floor I can just imagine what's going on in the kitchen. I have passed by this place many times, however I have never taken the time to check them out. Well this time, My wife and I made an effort to go on a Thursday night to just check out this small little restaurant which looks like a house. It has a gravel parking lot and is very unassuming as you drive by. As you enter the door though, it is if you were in Italy yourself. You are promptly greeted by a friendly staff and in our case, promptly seated. The décor has all of the sights you would expect to see in Italy, and the food was very good. For starters we had the mozzarella Cheese sticks. The Marinara was piping hot (steam was present) and the cheese sticks were just as you would expect doused with grated cheese on top ( you get 5 in an order). Once we finished the appetizer they brought out complimentary bread with the marinara sauce. My wife had the small chicken Parmesan sandwich, and I had the chicken Marsala. Somehow I was able to manage to save a few breadsticks to use to sop up the delicious Marsala Sauce at the end. It is a very generous portion for the money, and I believe the service was much better than most places these days. This will be added to our monthly lists of places to visit regularly as the menu is filled with delicious meals. My second visit here and they were slammed. My lasagna was undercooked. My husband had a shrimp pasta that was good. Breadsticks were warm and came with sauce to dip in. Waited an hour for food. Server was amazing, very nice, felt bad for the servers they were apologizing to all their tables. ( saying food was made to order) We loved the reviews and tried it out because of the reviews. Don't understand what the hype was from previous reviews, clearly no one has had real Italian or Olive Garden in their life( we don't think Olive Garden is clearly real Italian but shit it's better than this.) Being so close to Charlotte there is so many options no idea how this place competes or gets any business. The food literally could be made by me or my mom, which we cannot cook Italian. I work as a kitchen manager and my long term care staff can cook pasta better than this. Photo is of chicken parm which is recommended by server. My husband got the egg plant rotolini which was clearly frozen and reheated. I order food from sysco distributor and I am not a Karen nor try to be since i am in the food service industry but I just can't, I order food products and know what is good quality and clearly pre packaged items. I have eaten here a few times and it is inconsistent. When it's good it is really. The last time the food came out luke warm and did not seem fresh. The meatballs are pretty decent as are the muscles. The stuffed grouper is good and the risotto and sautéed vegetables are good. The chicken are dishes are run of the mill. Went in on the Saturday before Easter and it was nearly empty, we didn't mind because we figured people would be eating in due to the holiday. Our server was very young but sweet. At some point there was a man walking around and talk to another table, we heard him say his name was Rizzo (I assume the owner). We thought he would greet us as well and ask about our experience but he did not. He had probably a 5 minute conversation with this table and we still were not greeted or spoken to by who I thought was the owner of the restaurant. When we walked out at the end of our meal we were ignore by staff and not spoken to as well. For this place to look seem a family owned spot and small business, it did not seem welcoming and did not seem like it mattered whether we ate there or not. Food was good, not amazing, but not bad. We sent a soup back and really enjoyed the fried ravioli. We will not be returning (it seems like that's what the owner would want anyways). Best of luck to this business. read more

We're pretty easy-going and willing to overlook issues especially these days with staffing issues. The Good: people were very friendly! Love the atmosphere. The Bad: The food and service were lousy. What a joke. While the food was very good, I was told I cannot have half Alfredo half marinara on my tortellini. Why not? The cook can't take the spoon and give me some marinara and some Alfredo? I've NEVER heard of an italian restaurant refusing to do this. It makes a sauce called "pink rosa" which I love. We tried Rizzo's last night for dinner on a whim. The first thing we learned was that we should have planned ahead and made a reservation. However, even though they were clearly a bit understaffed and crowded, the wait staff, servers, and hostess staff worked incredibly hard to get everyone seated and served in a timely manner. We only ended up waiting about 20-30 minutes or so and it was well worth it. While we found their red sauce to be a tad bit on the sweet side, otherwise everything was truly fantastic. I had the lasagna, and my husband had the eggplant parm. The portions are generous and reasonably priced. We had the pleasure (or torture) while we were waiting to see many dishes on the menu come out. Everything looked fantastic. We've already decided to come back better prepared and try other dishes. Terrible Chicken Parm!!!! The sauce looked/tasted like it was Prego, the Chicken was very dry and over cooked - much too thinly cut, and the cheese was the wrong kind. By wrong type of Cheese, I mean that good Mozzarella Cheese used by Restaurants doesn't burn dark when cooked. This junk certainly did!!! Way way over cooked and dark. The Penne Pasta that came with it wasn't anything special either, but truly I couldn't eat the Parm as it was that bad. Wife said "send it back", to which I wouldn't, as had no feeling that anything else would have been made better. Get good Mozzarella cheese and aluminate the Recada from your Chicken Parmesan, and don't make it wafer thin.
