I decided what I needed was an attorney with a solo practice who could deliver the same quality advice and service but at prices that were fair. I don't need a cup of organic herbal tea or bottled spring water at my appointments. Nor do I need spa music and plush seating with a sweeping view of the river. Who do you think pays for all those fancy amenities at the firms downtown? You do. Enter Richard Sohler. Wow, I can't say enough great things about him and his practice. A top ten percent graduate of the prestigious Lewis and Clark Law School, Richard is hard-working (he grew up on an Oregon filbert farm), humble, sincere, straight talking, easy-going, thorough, and has a meticulous attention to detail. He delivers fast and efficient service and always has his eye out on how to keep his charges down so he can save the client money. In addition to updating my estate plan, I hired him to prepare my tax return for 2014, which was more than just a tiny bit complicated. In preparing my taxes, first Richard reviewed my previous year's returns and found some areas where my old CPA had dropped the ball, so to speak. The last thing I want (or anyone else I'm sure) is a tax audit. Richard recommended that I file an amended return for 2013. I agreed, so he set to work and waded through all the mess and got the amended return ready too, all while in the middle of his dear wife delivering their first baby! Just weeks after I hired Richard, I was already proud to recommend him to friends who needed advice regarding the business/book-keeping aspects of their homeowner's association, and also to friends who needed to update their estate plan like I did. If you want the best advice there is for taxes, business law, or estate planning, Richard is your man.

I had been procrastinating getting a trust drafted for over a year. Im a single professional mom…read morewith a young child and I knew it was important... but was turned off by friends' horror stories of lawyers wanting to charge ~$6k for a simple trust, will, advance directive. I considered LegalZoom. Or even those old-school paper packets you can buy at Office Max (does any of that exist anymore?) But I know enough to know that having a real live licensed lawyer gives peace of mind, and if they botch anything, you have recourse. I looked on Yelp for estate lawyers. Greg Levinson had great reviews. So I contacted him thru his website, he contacted me back quickly, and it soon became clear I was working with an ethical, experienced and practical lawyer to get these vital documents done. We met on Zoom and he answered all my questions, including awkward ones like Should I include a clause in my will/trust that I don't want my child raised in the religion my sibling practices? Should I give my trustees a copy of the actual documents so they'd see the contents, or just tell them where to find my papers if I die? I felt Greg and I trusted and respected each other. Greg was very proactive and communicative even when I was kind of putting the project on my back burner. The end result of hiring Greg: I now feel secure with my documents. That my kid and other survivors will be protected if I die, and they'll know my wishes, and their administrative burden will be less than it would have if I'd continued procrastinating on my Estate docs. Highly recommend Greg. Just do it!

When it came time to call around for divorce attorneys, they all had a relatively common refrain:…read moreessentially, "abandon all hope and resign yourself to eternal suffering--you're ****ed." With the notable exception of Jessy from Hotley Law! When Jessy returned my call, she came PREPARED. They handled all my questions, took care of the paperwork and any potential loose ends, and turned, well, let's be honest, a not-so-great experience into a 5-star one! For reals, thank you to Jessy, Solveig, and the team at Hotley Law from me and my kid for helping us get past this chapter and onto to the rest of our lives.

Prior to retaining the services of Holtey Law, my wife and I had been involved in a painful,…read moretwo-year long custodial struggle, with a lawyer who was...less than helpful. Eventually, we were forced to change strategies, and attorneys. We had sought a second opinion on our case from Nathan Holtey, who came recommended to us, and that one hour conversation was enough to convince us that he and his team were up to the task. When the aforementioned change of representation occurred, Nathan was personally unavailable for our case, but recommended the absolutely stellar, professional and personable Allison Kamilos. Allison immediately picked up the slack, leaping in to the middle of the previous attorney's clusterf**k, managing to turn everything around and help us navigate the final steps of our custody battle, despite an absurdly tight schedule before the final deadline. Allison communicated clearly, openly and honestly, listening to our concerns, offering feedback and advice (something our previous attorney failed to do), and making one of the most stressful and frustrating times in our lives navigable, bearable, and affordable. I cannot recommend the services of Holtey Law, and Allison in particular, any higher. If ever the situation arises again, where we are in need of an attorney (and I pray that day never comes), I will look nowhere else for legal representation. Case closed.

I truly couldn't have asked for anyone better, and I'm extremely grateful for his time, expertise, and dedication. He helped me with a business contract that I was very nervous about signing, and it helped tremendously that he carefully explained all aspects of the situation and my legal rights and responsibilities to me. I was impressed with his knowledge, and the way that he took all my questions and fears seriously, answering each concern thoughtfully rather than being dismissive. Some time after that, I recommended him to a friend who was going through bankruptcy and wasn't happy with the lawyer she'd been to already. She switched to Scot, and was very happy that she did. Her bankruptcy went through fine with Scot's help. I ended up recommending Scot to a second friend this year who needed help with a landlord/tenant issue. After going to another lawyer who laughed my friend out of the office, basically telling him nobody cared about his legal issue, I suggested he go see Scot. Scot took my friend's case seriously, and was able to help my friend and the involved party reach a compromise without having to go to court. Scot is very kind, intelligent, and thorough. He is, I believe, one of those genuinely good people in the world, of which there are too few.
