Well, long story short, I got him out and now he's paying 2X more for half the space in a crappy boring neighborhood. It cost me some money but it was worth it to shut him down. I never broke the law in how I handled him and treated him beyond fairly. Jessica was a calm presence, and fantastic at laying out all the possibilities, and while she's great in court sometimes knowing when to walk away is the best thing you can do! I love my life in Austin now and don't have to worry about receiving certified mail from this idiot. Even if I did I'd have Jessica in my corner. She's a champ! For a full month she did not respond to emails or phone calls, with no explanation. After a month I finally opened a case with the state bar to investigate as I'd already paid her a significant sum, and I hired another lawyer, who was able to move things along in days. Altogether, the month-long delay in my case plus the cost of an additional lawyer cost me thousands of dollars. After well over a month, and after I'd completed the process with another lawyer, she finally responded with little explanation. I want to be sympathetic to "family issues", but I would expect at *least* setting an "out of office" email so people know what's going on. She only partially refunded my money (kept a significant amount). I overall found this behavior deeply unprofessional and dishonest.
