This is Montpelier's train station, restored to its original condition. Three small and bleak…read morerooms in a small wood frame building, occupied by a few wooden benches and ancient typewriters. Six buttons, which, when pressed, lament the evils of racial discrimination in Virginia's past, discrimination said to be embodied in the building's separate waiting rooms for black and white train passengers. Ironically, both rooms look more or less the same. Not worth stopping for, on the road to Orange.

I have a handicap tag and was not going to utilize the first parking place which is for handicapped only. But a selfish USPS employee had parked their car in the handicapped parking spot in front of the Historic Montpelier Train Depot, where a person could easily get a photo just like the photo which advertises the Historic Montpelier Train Depot. Because of that selfish Postal employee parking in the handicapped parking place, I was not able to get a good photo of the of the historic "Jim Crowe" era train depot where segregation was still prominent at that time. Although I still got my photo where you could see the "White" and "Colored" entrances, I had to step up so close to the front of the depot to get the photo, you cannot see all of the front of the Historic depot. This is because the USPS employee was parked in the first parking space. I thought since it was 10:00am and we were going to see Montpelier, which was James Madison's Home, I would just get the better photo on the way back from the Mt. Montpelier Home. It was now after 1:00pm. I thought there would be no cars in the parking lot. Much to my dismay the car was still there. Having worked in Area Maintenance for the USPS for 30 years, I have been to many Post Offices and I know Postal Employees are not allowed to park in customer parking. If you come here and a car is parked in the first parking place where you can get a great photo of the Historical Montpelier Train Depot, don't hesitate to walk in the attached Post Office and tell the employee you know that Postal Employees are not supposed to park in Customer parking. Hopefully the employee will have caught wind of this bad review and will know better than to park in a customer parking space.
