Delightful. During the school season, it's a pleasure to have somewhere to take my 3 year old son that's not crowded. We can spend an hour daily going back to his favorite exhibits and exploring new ones. As an adult, I've learned so much already and would love to spend a day here alone. Their "Everyone is Special" initiative focuses on autism with trained individuals in the field--a great opportunity to reach out to others in the Autism community. We had an amazing (pun intended) time at Amazement square. We had family visiting from out of town and this was a great choice to take our crew of toddlers for the day. The four story structure has plenty to occupy both kids and adults and we were able to spend a few hours there in the morning and after returning from lunch. I thought that the play structure that went up the entire 4 floors was especially fun! Tip: they have semi-reciprocity with the C'ville Discovery Museum - you can get up to 6 individuals in for half price if you show them your membership card. Free parking across the street from the museum. They also supply free lockers to store your belongings in, too. read more

Best place for children in lynchburg. We have been here at least 10 times and every time we find something new to do! Perfect for the entire family, from little crawlers to older explorers. Did I mention they have a floor where you can put on a smock, take off your shoes and socks and paint on the walls?! And every area you will learn something. From the farm area on the first level, on to the Egyptian exhibit on the second level, then the healthy eating and golf ball frenzy on the third level, lastly the canoes and architecture experience on the top floor. From the moment you walk in everyone is so nice. They have so many deals to avoid that pricey fee of $9.75 (memberships, after school deals, SNAP/EBT deals, etc.) We spend hours in this place and it never gets old. Open Tuesday thru Sunday. Think Mcdonald's pipe maze & ball pit x 100. Add liberally a blended sauce of education and you've got amazement square. My nieces & nephews range in age 3-8 and they had a blast here with floor after floor of entertainment. If I had my own kids & lived in the area, I think monthly visits would be a must in order to wear those hyperactive boogers out. A nice touch was at least one staff member manning each floor, helping out with engaging kids in a host of activities and making sure everyone plays safely. Whoever came up with the idea of housing a children's play museum in a old warehouse had a stroke of genius. I can tell you one thing for sure, If I knew about this place as a pre-teen, I would of fallen in love with the most awesome play place ever. read more

I was amazed. This is a pretty neat place that is set up for the kiddies to spend a day exploring and playing and I have to admit, it is done well. Since I am sans kiddies, we met friends who do have the lil ones in tow and heading over to Amazement Square. There are like 4 floors of things for all ages to do and see and it is pretty cool. There are attractions for various age groups so, depending on how many little beasties you have with you, there should be something for everyone to occupy their time with. I was particularly found of the sound studio, the xbox rockstar stage thing and the paint room. We killed a few hours in there before heading out and we weren't bored once. Great job overall and pretty well thought out. Got some kids? Bring them down there! Parking on the street of some lots scattered around. read more

Worth the trip from anywhere in Southwest Virginia. Especially worth it on Thursday, when admission is discounted. Doesn't look like much from the street, but they pack a lot into 4+ floors. There's a lot to see and do. I would allow three hours and start from the basement floor and go up. Any good children's museum needs a central focal point, and the multi-floor climbing structure is surprising and impressive. Kind, knowledgeable staff. My kids are 5 and 7. We've been to "science museums" all over the US, but it seems like we all enjoyed this one the best....even the adults! read more

This place was awesome. Every other Saturday they offer a "family" day. We were in town for a wedding and happened to be in town on one of these days. For only $3 you could do everything from 4:00-7:00. It was the fastest three hours of our weekend. Even for the full price of around $10 per person we would have been thrilled with that value. They have something for all ages. They have four levels and each level has a different theme. Each one of our kids liked different levels and spent a lot of time on the level they preferred. Can't say enough good things about this place. Will not be disappointed. Very hands on and entertaining!! read more

6 yo child loved amazement square and asked to go back the next day. The place was nice but I think we were at the tail end of the target age group. Child loved the 4 story jungle gym structure. There were many exhibits of local natural history, culture, etc plus a maker space. Awesome concept but several of the exhibits seemed to be out of order or being restored. read more

My 18 month old loves it here. The downstairs has an interactive barn area with a ton for toddlers to do. The pirate ship upstairs is great for toddlers too. Employees here are great and the facility is always clean and well maintained. There is a great deal on weekdays for $5 admission after 3:00. If you have a little one in this area, this is definitely a place to come. read more

A great little museum. We live in a very large major city & are use to the quality of our children's museum. This really rivals ours, but done on a smaller scale. The exhibits were all wonderful, clean, working & most of all fun. The prices were very reasonable too. We paid $9 for people 1-59 & $6 for anyone over 59. I love the historical tidbits that were woven into the exhibits. It really gave both kids & parents dual lessons. We will most definitely be coming back. read more

Amazement Square is so well run, maintained, and the activities are so varied and fun. I've been to a lot of children's museums and this one is my top favorite. My 2 year old son had fun here and spent almost 2 hours playing but it was ridiculously expensive. $30 for four of us (including 2 seniors). All we did was following him around while he played and try to keep the enormous groups of barely supervised campers from running him down. Adults should not have to pay for entry. I joined a group of friends at an event to learn arm knitting. Paid $25 to be TAUGHT how to arm knit. Left early because the teacher was awful and only paid attention to a few tables. I ask for help, she came over to help; however, then left while I was still confused. So, still have no idea what to do. This happened on more than one occasion to more than just me. She seemed overwhelmed and not to mention poor planning. I was very disappointed. read more

Many of the children's museums over-do it on trying to educate instead of focusing on interesting, fun, entertaining activities. Kids will learn about conservation and the food groups in school. Wonderful spot in downtown Lynchburg. Worth every penny- since admission is good for the entire day, we even came back a second time. Great for all kids under 10- even includes educational exhibits on electricity, centrifugal force, and insects that are still fun. The recreation of the James River (including locks) is particularly fun, although your kids will get wet! It's occasionally open in the evenings, too. read more

Four floors of fun and educational stuff. Took a couple of four year old girls there and could have spent most of the day. The center of the building is a giant climbing maze with slides and tunnels that is the full height of the building. As good as the Richmond Children's Museum if you ask me. read more

what an amazing place for children to learn and play!... providing a climb, slide, and zip line facility, covering 4 floors, i hope you're a parent who plans on "literally" participating the entire time that your child is "being a child". Otherwise, you're paying $8.00, to chase your children up and down 4 flights of stairs to ensure that they are sill in the establisment due to the slides "that you can't see through" leading them to other floors. .... the same slides that fast food facilities often have...only, the slides at Amazement Square, go through brick walls, and 4 floors, making it impossible for you to keep track of your child................and NO security is established upon entry of the facility! Yes, they have security cameras, but I question their security if the only thing they can do, is provide a profile of the person who "took" my child (because I was too busy running up and down 4 floors looking for him)...vs, making sure my child wasn't abducted in the first place!.........and yes, they do have an elevator......but the walls of the elevator wont allow you to see what is taking place on each floor. Again, it's a great place for kids but I will NEVER go there with chidren, by myself again.... read more
