Immediately visions of Strictly Ballroom, sequins, and intense instruction dedicated to preserving the age old craft came to mind, however Rivertown Ballroom is decidedly (and thankfully) casual and ever so slightly romantic. We paid $15 for 2 for an hour group foxtrot lesson. We started out learning "the basic" slow, slow, quick quick step which progressed further into a box step and eventually we added the turning dance move the twinkle. I started out with two clumsy left feet and awkward, stiff body positioning, "frame" as they called it. But as the class went on I eventually smoothed out the steps and looked somewhat proficient with my dance partners and was fairly comfortable with the three basic steps we learned. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would recommend this class or the studio itself to anyone interested in learning just the basics of Ballroom dance. I'd definitely come back to Foxtrot or try some of the other dances they offer like the Waltz or even Belly Dancing! read more

This was my second time doing line dancing here.Its a great set up as small town dance studios go.The teacher was great! very patient. It was pretty crowded today but we still had plenty of room to move. On one side of me I had a music teacher and on the other side a 70 year old line dance instructor from florida who had a tan like an indian and the beat of a 20 year old latin chick. Between them I was a piece of work! But, all are real encouraging to the beginner. This class was just $5.00 bucks for an hour. I highly recommend checking it out.Today we had two kids joing us and one was quite good. So I dont think age is a problem either. read more

I have been attending classes and dances at Rivertowne Ballroom for about the last ten years and would highly, highly recommended this Ballroom to anyone from beginners to advanced dancers to anyone who just wants to dance and have fun. I travel one hour each way from my home just to attend classes and dances at this Ballroom. When I begun dancing, I knew absolutely nothing and the teachers and students were more than willing to show me how to get started. I have never seen more friendly, patient people than the instructors who work there. Cindy, one of the instructors there, has choreographed many dances I've been involved in. She works very hard, comes up with cool moves, listens to my suggestions, and is always patiently showing me the steps until I finally get it. If your goal is to become a better dancer, or just to learn the basics, I would definitely recommend a private lesson with Cindy. Overall, the prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of instruction received, and a more welcoming atmosphere could not be found anywhere else. My fiancé and I took private dance lessons for our wedding at the Rivertowne Ballroom. Bernie and Anya were our instructors and we could not have asked for better teachers. They are so wonderful, I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. Bernie was easy to communicate with when we needed to reschedule. They not only are professionals but they are VERY good teachers. It's one thing to be good at something and it's another to know how to properly teach others. My husband to be (who hates dancing) even enjoyed each lesson we had with them. Bernie and Anya made each session fun, we were always laughing, they listened to what we did or didn't want to do, and they created a beautiful dance for us. I wish I was a millionaire so I could take private lessons with them forever! read more

My fiancé and I received private dance lessons as an engagement present from my family. We were hoping to learn a fun and creative dance for our first dance as husband and wife. My fiancé and I attended one private session and worked with Cindy. Unfortunately, she failed to ask the type of wedding we were having and the style of dance we were hoping for. Therefore, she created a very formal routine that did not suit our style. We were appalled at the unprofessionalism of several staff members when we were told "they cannot help us" to create a more fun, fresh, and unique routine. Therefore, we were asked not to return. What a disappointment it was telling my family that the gift they were so excited to give us did not work out the way any of us had hoped. I gave 1 star because that was the lowest option available. read more
