I have had two children attend Riverstone International School from elementary school through middle school and into high school. Both have benefited greatly from the school's academically rigorous IB program, its unique outdoor experiences, and its incredibly kind and supportive student body. The faculty have been very accessible and helpful in personalizing education for each child, and I have seen the results of the education when my children have participated in programs outside the school and received recognition for outstanding performance. I would recommend Riverstone highly and without reservation to anyone looking for an outstanding academic education within a supportive environment that helps them develop a range of important life skills including critical thinking, community involvement, and communication skills. read more

Mixed bag here...for being in Boise this school is incredibly "woke." First day in 6th grade they asked my child their "personal pronouns." In 7th grade art class the assignment was to write a report on a contemporary artist. My child was told their pick was "too white male." My child was subsequently instructed to choose a BIPOC artist, with extra points if they were "queer." My complaints regarding this fell on deaf ears. Many of the teachers are pretty decent, but the school tilts WAY to the left. The non-woke portions of the curriculum are good, especially the math and outdoor-centric programs. However, we did put our son in a different international school and he was way behind in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. His new school has these as stand-alone classes starting in Grade 5. Riverstone International School has been an incredible experience for our family. Both of our children attended from kindergarten through graduation and were accepted into top-tier colleges. The small class sizes and exceptional teacher-to-student ratio meant they received personalized attention. The outdoor education program is outstanding--building confidence and leadership skills. Riverstone not only prepared our kids academically but also helped shape them into thoughtful, resilient young adults. Highly recommend. read more

If I could give a negative star review, I would. Riverstone outright refuses to contact both parents in a divorced situation. Time and time again, they contact my son's father and find it unnecessary to to contact me as well. Despite phone calls, emails, and personal visits to the school, Riverstone continues to ignore the fact that I have 50/50 custody of my son. I'm a college educated woman. I have a full-time job. I've never been in trouble with the law. I provide care to our nation's Veterans. I am in NO way an absent parent. But for some reason, Riverstone will not contact me if my son is hurt, absent, sent home sick, etc etc etc. They DO NOT have a school nurse on staff. They do not currently have a cafeteria for the kids to eat their lunch in, and they haven't ever had a cafeteria on site. Way overpriced and test scores for my son continue to decline. What are we paying for? Would NOT recommend. read more

We have had an incredible amount of problems communicating with Riverstone International school regarding our student. Our other children attend West Ada School District and the difference is incredible. Our kids in West Ada Schools are excelling, the teachers are exceptional and the communication is on point. The education at West Ada is better in almost every way. Riverstone is a disappointment and a waste of resources. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Riverstone is providing in-person or online education right now. I've been blown away by the on-line learning this year and our teachers! My son is in a high-risk category right now so needs to learn from home during Covid. We couldn't be happier!!! Yesterday, they were listening to a speech by Nelson Mandela and talking about different types and forms of leadership. Due to upgraded technology at school he feels like part of the class. Wow!!! Horrible experience. 4 year old kid, 3 weeks into school already fractured his elbow at this school. They had a 5th grader watching him! Then the teacher turns on us and tells us it's our kids fault! Kid is somehow getting bullied at pre-K and the teachers haven't notified us or discussed it with us or anything. Buyer beware! The contract you sign will put you on the hook for $10k of the full tuition even though we pulled out kid out 3 weeks into the school year due to these issues! read more

Riverstone has provided our kids with a safe, nurturing environment. The rigor of the curriculum means they are more tha prepared for college and quality of education is evident in the prestigious universities that the students get into. Worth the investment. read more

I just posted review on google. Fool me once I guess. So upset. My now deceased ex wife enrolled my son at this school. I never wanted him there but she felt it was a good idea so we went forward. After she died suddenly during my sons junior year, I wanted to try and keep him there out of respect for her. However, my son was not taking advantage of the extremely expensive opportunity, and it was going to be a hardship financially since my current wife quit her job to be a full time mom for all our kids. So, after much thought, I made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw my son. I emailed Andy, the school director on June 6. His response was he would like to talk about it before we made the decision. He had my phone number, but other than the initial response, I did not hear anything from him for the remainder of the summer. During the summer we received emails about enrollment to which I responded that my son would not be returning. We just this week went to get his transcripts to enroll him in public school. The first day my wife went the staff was pleasant. The second time she went they were terrible to her. That is when I found out that when we put in his application for 2017-2018 school year which is done in march or april of the previous year, there is a section detailing cancellation. Basically, they want me to pay 75% of the fees and tuition even though he won't be attending (because we can't afford it). Ultimately it is my fault that I didn't go over the contract with a fine tooth comb. That being said, what a bunch of crooks. They had all summer to find a student to take his place, and they probably did. I guess my original gut instinct was right. I never should have let his mom enroll him. I would suggest you do the same, unless you ar rich. read more

Not impressed by the Middle and High School Director who makes promises he doesn't keep. The school definitely favors large donor and very active families and their children. You know it is bad when even the elementary students notice the difference in the treatment. The teachers are decent to good for the most part. read more

Last year we contacted school and were told what to do, we fallowed the instructions paid the fees and never heard from the school. After few calls we were able to talk to them since nobody returned our call. We were told that they will call us for a tour and never once after that call anyone called again. This year same thing happen almost had we not called and emailed. Director of admissions provided her cell number and that's how we were able to communicate. We went to school, our daughter took some tests, then later we were told there is more paperwork needed, you see had we had that admissions directors communications sooner none of this delay would take its course. Anyway we gave them all they need practically in the last few days before the school starts and then they said no to us. Reason because our kid missed some classes. Anyway I am aggravated because they were nice to get you to pay fees for the financial aid, then fees for the school board but they don't care that they wasted our time, school started today and my daughter is not registered anywhere, when she tried today they rejected her cause they were full, this other public school is less then a mile a way and now they are trying to send her 15 miles farther. How would you feel trusting the so called Director of Admissions who only few days before the school starts tell you that she is not in charge but someone else, someone holding a title as in charge of admissions tell you they are not, I fell like cheated and lied to. Paying 60$ to feel out the darn financial aid application then 75$ to the school, I mean come on what is this school thinking, lead people on just to make money in fees. Anyway my daughter was told that she couldn't get in because of her days missed in class, how is that fair, how is it fair when your kid is sick and has to stay home that she will be panfished later for that, she did take an vacation with us but we had asked her teachers in advance about it and she was given the assignments which she all did. School she was in was horrible, many other kids have missed school because they were nervous about being in it. So how is it ok for a school to judge you on that. If so called Great riverstone is so great what makes them take credit for their school when they only get great students that they pick and choose. It's the kids that deserve credit, I am sure they wouldn't be so great if they were in a school challenged by some of today's generations. After talking to some people I was told that school is horrible because how they treat poor and rich kids, how principal sides with rich kids and how there is a huge problem with this behavior. Anyway after spending a day of worrying I came across a parent complain that I pasted under feel free to read it. As I am looking to file a complain with the idaho school superintendent. Also I would never ever consider any of my kids to a school like this who treats kids like that after reading this comment below which made me feel a little better. (10 months ago) This school is a poor excuse for an institution of learning. While the curriculum is very diverse and more advanced than public schools they do not support anything OTHER than the academics. They completely lack the knowledge staffing and resources to support the kids in other ways. The culture there is very much "elitist" and the school WILL pull whatever strings necessary for the wealthiest familes while throwing the scholarship kids under the bus. By this I mean if a wealthy kid doesn't like your "less wealthy" kid be prepared for your child to be in the director's office with disciplinary actions. I witnessed this on many occasions while my child attended and it is rampant. I really loved the "idea" of this school but found it was a very damaging environment for my child. You'd be FAR better off going to one of the schools in the North End or Highlands area. read more

I cannot say enough about how fantastic this school has been for my daughter and how the superb staff has nurtured her and fostered her growth. My daughter was nervous to start the school as a 4th grader, but was warmly welcomed. She enjoyed the daily community time, the small class size, the outdoor learning, and the inquiry based model. In this first year, she has made *incredible* leaps in her abilities and testing. She now knows more about the U.S. government than I do! She's also made big leaps in her courage and ability to communicate with other people about what she wants and needs. I loved her teacher this year (Ms. Smackey) and was impressed with everyone else too. I was nervous about fitting in with the other families because we are not wealthy, but this fear was unfounded. We were welcomed as a family too. There are no uniforms and nothing pretentious, although the academic standards are high. It is a busy school with a small admin staff, but everyone I met is caring and has their heart in the right place. A few administrators could be a tiny bit better organized (couldn't we all?!?!), but I think that's because they are pouring so much time into the actual work with kids. They were always responsive, respectful, and easy to work with for me when I put in the tiniest effort. I feel SO lucky that this school is in Boise. read more
