It's pretty rare to see a three legged bridge, and even more rare to see one as well maintained and gorgeous as this one. We came from the side closest to downtown, and there was plenty of parking in the lot, with free three hour parking on the street as well. There's a watercraft access point for kayaks and the like, and a few people boating and people fishing at the shores of the lake. There were also people having a picnic at the picnic tables. It's a peaceful place to visit and the surrounding grounds are well maintained.

Many on the paths go out over the water which was super cool. If you driving though this would be a great place to stop and have a picnic or just wander around. It leads back to a cute little tree play area and a quiet space to look out at bird feeders. There is also a fantastic river overlook in the main space near some play space. A small shop carries a variety of nature-related and local items. Outside offers a number of trails, a nature play area, picnic tables, and the like. We quite enjoyed the trail near the pond, which also offers a story walk, in addition to being able to peer at all of the plants and critters near the pond. A very nice spot!

We have the latest electronics and gear on both of our boats. If you are jigging, you will get a choice of different size rods. For trolling the bay we use 7 foot walleye rods, with Okuma Convector CV20 reels, spooled with Berkeley Big Game fishing line for our crankbaits. We use brand name and custom painted spoons on lead core line once the fish move into deeper water in June and July.

On this particular day they had a waterfowl festival event with food trucks, vendors, puppies and much more. Spent the day enjoying the festival and the park. I really liked that they had a splash pad, childrens area, lots of trail options, close parking to the beach and the restrooms. The beach was not the best place to be in my opinion because of the marsh line. You could walk far out and put a chair in the water to by pass but maybe consider a different part of Saginaw Bay might be a better place to swim and enjoy the beach.

There are also a few grills and large gazebos that can be reserved for local residents in case you want to have a cookout. If you have a dog or child they can play in their designated playgrounds. I've been going here for as long as I can remember. Apparently, it's one of the most popular…read moretourist places in Michigan... mainly just so your kids can jump off the dam and go swimming. The campground itself is very rustic: no electricity, hand water pump, outhouse toilets. The park is free to enter and is a popular fishing spot. The dammed side of the river is very rocky and strong current, and the water level fluctuates from flooding into the forest to a bunch of rocks depending on the season. It certainly offers a rewarding fishing challenge if you can fight off the crayfish, snags, and kids jumping in the way to splash in the water. For a better fishing experience, go to the lake side. Shore fishing is met with blobs of grass and minimal catches, but if you take a small boat out into the reservoir, it's filled with sizeable bluegill, smallmouth bass, and the elusive northern pike. I go to this area several times a year for fishing, photographs, and nostalgia.
