He gets everything arranged, gets you fitted with the right bike, and sends you out with a guide to get you through the forest on bikes. The guide we had today was Josh and he was very good! ( after biking he added his sweet dog, Annie, to the group for the rafting section!) along our biking he told us some fun facts about the Redwood Trees and some exotic plants! Our biking section of the day was GREAT! It is actually a perfect ride you start on pavement and then you end up on a gravel road with some uphills and some downhill but nothing super steep allowing you to take in the scenery. Can the forest be any more beautiful!! The trees are enormous!! Some have been burned, some struck by lighting, some both!! But they are still standing! After biking we drove to the Smith river where they laid out a great lunch! After lunch we geared up for river rafting down the Smith River, the only un-dammed river in California! It is spectacularly clear! Since we were here in June, the river was not super deep, but we did have some fun rapids and some really nice open spaces that were very mellow, allowing you to take in the scenery! For those more daring there is a stop where you can jump off rocks into the water. The rafting portion lasted about 2 to 3 hours. Our entire day started at 9:30 and we were done around 4 PM. I thought it was a fantastic way to spend the day! I highly recommend them.

Our bikes were dropped off at The Wooden Covered Bridge and we rode to the Grove of Titans. There are a few other hikes along the way. The road is mostly unpaved, but no big deal. You do have to yield to cars, but it also wasn't a problem. The company was easy to work with and super nice. This was the way to see this beauty area!

My husband went fishing yesterday on the "'Bout Time" with Captain Rich Signorello and his awesome…read moredeckhand (and son), Matt (first trip was in 2021). The Bout Time holds up to 6, but we were comfortable with 5 guys who travelled to Brookings from Southern Calif to northern Oregon. This time, Steve took the Lighthouse Trip $255 - an all day excursion to the light house, 12 miles off shore near Crescent City, CA. It was a beautiful sunny day with almost no wind out in the ocean. I dropped Steve off at the harbor at 6:15am, expecting to have the ENTIRE day to myself until, at 12:20pm, Steve texted me and said to get ready to come pick him up because everyone hit their limit and they were already heading back! I had just started a reply to ask if he got the "elusive" halibut (just joking), and before I could hit send, he texted me to let me know - YES - he caught a halibut! It weighed 35lbs and Steve said he arms were so tired from landing it, that he could barely hold it up for the picks (I will try to attach to this review later)! I joined them at the boat once it docked and with Matt's assistance, we watched Captain Rich expertly clean and filet all of the fish for us (one guy caught a 5' Wolf Eel, which he shared portions of with the rest of the crew. We haven't tried eating this yet, but are looking forward to it). Turns out that halibut has 4 filets, not just the normal 2, so we gave Captain Rich and Matt of of them to take home. We dropped the rest of the fish (over 21 pounds of Halibut, Ling Cod and Rockfish) at the local fish store in the harbor and they quickly vacuum sealed it for us for the trip home. While waiting for the fish, I noticed that the current retail price of halibut was $32.95 per pound, so I think we got our money's worth on this trip!!! We're here for 2 weeks so Steve has already booked a second reservation with Rich for another fishing trip before we leave. You won't be disappointed going fishing with Captain Rich and Matt - they know so much about all of the fish in the area (really interesting info) and you can just tell, every time they start to talk about the boat and this harbor, they LOVE to fish!!!!

We had a quick stop back at the dock to meet with an ambulance and went back out to limit out. We felt like we were in good hands with this crew and they were very knowledgeable. We did expect to do some deep sea fishing however we had to stay close to shore due to weather however we were grateful to go out as this was the third booking that we made with this company. Gabriel was prompt, friendly and provided insightful information about the fishery. Captain Jesus was an expert guide who spoke English and educated us on the fishery. Despite the unusually cold waters, he quickly got us onto two 15+ lb yellowtail and later helped us hook a 25 lb dorado on the surface. Day 2 was more challenging due to the previous night's storm, but we still enjoyed a scenic trip to the island, caught some quality rockfish, and landed a 34 lb pargo! My family also had an amazing experience, catching a striped marlin, several dorados, and more yellowtail. Baja Pirates is a first-class operation with seasoned captains and top-of-the-line gear. Next time, I'll leave my equipment and ice chest at home since Gabriel has everything you need right at the dock. Huge thanks to Leonard for an incredible trip--we'll be back! Just a reminder to everyone; fishing is unpredictable, but the Baja Pirates fish hard and will put you in the best position to succeed.

Still wanting…read moreto see the Oregon coast we had heard so much about, but not with a lot of time, this was a great spot. You can easily pull over as it is right on your drive, spend as much or as little time as you want and still have great views and a great experience. Wish we could have spent more time, but it was still a great spot to jump out and back in to continue our journey down the coast.

Nice to walk along the beach's cement walkway. During the colder months the accessibility to the…read morebeach is difficult, but not impossible, as they take away the stairs and put them back in the warm months. If you are looking for driftwood, there is no lack of it here as it piles up toward the cement walkway, while the beach is clear. Lots of cars lined up with people eating their lunch or just having coffee and watching the waves. It is a great beach to see whales without needing binoculars at certain times of the year. The January and February migration was fantastic this year and there were a few that lingered around still. If you like dogs and dog people, you will meet a lot of them walking along the boardwalk. Come in September and there is art on display for the month along the wooden boardwalk and you can vote for your favorite. Nice!

We had an excellent two days of fishing. We caught huge halibut, yellow eye, black bass, ling cod and silver salmon. We saw humpback whales all day both days. We saw puffins and sea lions and sea otters!
