Wow!!! I just got into woodworking as a hobby and I was going to Home Depot to get wood. Someone at the wood shop I go to told me about this place and I'm so glad I visited. I didn't even know there were so many different kinds of wood. Omg. I was overwhelmed but so excited. I talked to a worker there and he explained they could cut the wood and or/split it if I needed that service. Found Riverside Lumber when I was continually getting frustrated shopping for ply goods at the big box stores. Lowe's and Home Depot are such a pain in terms of finding what you want and getting it cut. So Riverside Lumber is certainly off the beaten path for me. But All things considered, I save time going here. They have tons of options for both sheet goods and hardwoods. It's easy to find someone to help you and in fact, you probably wouldn't make it far without someone finding you to help. They have two different warehouses and then a little trailer (think double wide). The warehouses keep the wood and equipment. Once you make your selections, the guys in the warehouse will get you loaded up. Someone will give you a slip of paper with your order, and you take that to the trailer for payment. These guys sell lots of different hardwoods including exotics. If interested, check out their Instagram. Sales guy told me that post new cool arrivals on IG. For the plywood's I purchased, they cut the sheet in half for me. There is a surcharge for this. It was $5. It takes me like 20-25 minutes to get to Riverside Lumber, but I much prefer these guys over the big box stores. It can be a little intimidating at first, but just be reassured they sell to hobbyists. I'm a total beginner and was just buying 2 sheets of plywood. They were good to work with. read more

I've been buying hardwoods of many species from Riverside since the early 1980s. In two locations, through one tornado and several hurricanes, they are helpful, courteous, and amply supplied with a wide variety of domestic and foreign species. Picking through their large selection is encouraged and the staff is helpful in cutting down boards to fit your vehicle. While I'm sure they prefer their wholesale business, I've never felt unwelcome as a retail client. I've bought thick and thin boards from five continents and am happy with everything I've got. So, I'm from the Baton Rouge area. We have 2 companies here - Service Lumber and Brazzos Lumber I'll drive and hour to buy from Riverside Lumber for a number of reasons. Riverside allows customers to wander thru the warehouse and look at all the wood. You are free to choose the boards you want. The Species and Price per BF are listed in the bins. By contrast at Service in Baton Rouge they have a sign that states: Please Do Not Pick Thru The Lumber - Lumber is Sold as Stacked. There are no prices and you're not really free to walk around in the warehouse. Brazzos - won't even allow customers in the Warehouse. They'll bring a pallet of wood (eventually, maybe) but you're not supposed to go thru those pieces. Price? I have no idea. I gave up on them as it wasn't a very welcoming trip. Riverside Lumber on the other hand encourages folks to come in the warehouse and look thru all the wood. They have people will help you pick out what you need. I was told by one of the Owners that if you need 200 BF of Walnut (for example) they will order 250BF and encourage you to go thru each piece and pick what you like. Night and Day difference. I forgot to mention. Riverside will sell partial pieces of lumber assuming enough is left to be sellable. read more

My dad does a lot of woodworking, so he's at this lumber yard pretty frequently. I met my dad for lunch one day, and I had nothing better to do, so I headed over here while he looked for wood for his latest project. When you get here you might not gonna know what you're looking at. There's a huge warehouse and a trailer. Go and check in at the trailer first and then they'll give you the "go ahead" to go into the warehouse and look around. Man, they have everything here that you could need. Tons of wood fit for hardwood floors, molding and anything else you could possibly dream up. You're probably going to need some time to look over everything, especially if you're looking for something specific and the men working there are happy to help you find anything that you may need. After you pick your wood, you let the people know if you need it cut and they will measure it out and cut what you need. If you don't need any of it cut, they'll help you load it up, give you a price and then send you back over to the trailer to pay. If you pay with a card, there's an extra charge and I can't really blame them for that. The process to get what we needed was easy and the folks were happy to help. Also, they're pretty knowledgeable about all of the wood (of course), so they'll give you tips on cutting, sanding and staining, if you need advice in that department. read more
