It's got TV hook up.. it's all good!

It's a roadside motel. It's dated and there are no perks.. but for a one night stay it's fine. The rooms were decent. It was clean, no fowl orders, AC worked and the surrounding neighborhood is safe. The man that helped us was nice, he gave us recommendations for breakfast and upgraded us to a 2 bedroom.

I just went nuts with photos, and I was so happy that we have the house all to ourselves, so I can roam around, just taking photos, inside and outside the garden. What is there to write about a negative? OK, maybe two, but only because I'm short. The bed was high. (Mine too, at home. But I have a step stool to climb in/out, that helps me). The tub, hubby has to hold my hand, so I won't slip coming out of the tub. Everything else was GREAT & DANDY! The food. The service. The views to the garden and the park. The gazebo. The Rose Garden, the Clematis, the scented Jasmine. It's a HISTORIC mansion! It's my temporary HEAVEN as I am here! Then, I wake up, and we're back home, back to reality, kinda thing!

The house itself was gorgeous and was exactly what I was looking for to celebrate my birthday on April 29th! The bear claw soaking tub along with the lounge couch and starry ceilings were my favorite part! Eli and Emily were awesome. You could tell they loved what they do for a living and the breakfast Emily cooked for us was exquisite. I felt like we were eating food from a fancy hotel restaurant and couldn't have asked for a better way to finish off our B&B experience. Although we didn't get to meet the resident cats, we left feeling blessed and would recommend this place to our family and friends. Thanks Eli and Emily for a memorable experience!

I love the view of the Willamette River. I love the washroom, shower, sink, and the lights in the room, the mirrors in the room made the room even brighter and bigger. The door to the washroom, sliding door. Even though I didn't use the iron/board, I like the fact they have those. The rooms were clean, like they cared and pillows and bed comfortable. I love the fact, they have soft, cushion, velvety chairs, to matched the room. Negative: The desk chair, cushion good, but I sink down so low as I sit down to use my laptop on the desk. It does swivel! We stayed here two nights. The buffet breakfast, the only meat was bacon. Not a lot of selection for dinner, that's when we ordered Caesar Salad and Pasta with Grilled Chicken (they need to improve that). Bonus for the extra 4th of July chocolates, we got when we got in the hotel, and during the fireworks! July 4th, another positive, we were able to have front row seats for the fireworks! It's right on your face, and because of the wind gusts, we seldom smell smoke, and I didn't think it was too loud. (I've had relatives who watched the Oaks Park in Portland, and they said it was TOO loud). I think the wind carried it over further, so the sound was OK with me. My husband couldn't find his iPad, and the hotel said they found it, from the same room we were at. (It turned out, he found it in the truck, so we didn't have to drive back to Independence to pick it up). (We forgot to let the staff know, we were there for 2 reasons: to do my 4th of July events in Monmouth, and to celebrate with a big bang, our 50th Wedding Anniversary). I can't remember, the last time we were able to watch the fireworks together, by ourselves. This was a treat for us! We would like to come back in 2025, same time, same days, facing the river again! Thank you!

The room was very well appointed, nice features like a wet bar area, seating, separate TVs if one desired. Super comfy bed, great environmental controls (heat and a/c) were very quiet also. The bathroom was exceptional, most wonderful shower in North America. The breakfast was also darn good, lots of choices and very friendly service. In fact all the employees were very cheerful and welcoming, darn pleasant. But above all, and far so, is the Japanese garden attached to the hotel. It is worth the trip all on it's own. Spectacular for it's size, only an acre- centered around a gorgeous water feature of a huge koi pond, with many lovely spaces to just chill and appreciate the beauty of the garden.

I was playing no games with the way the universe was talking to me yesterday. No thank you sir. We won't be driving anymore. Not going 50 on I5 for 7 hours. I pulled up hotels on Yelp, and this was the first choice. I thought OMG this has got to be expensive. Nope. Affordable. And VERY VERY nice. I'm INCREDIBLY picky and to say that this was super clean is a lot for me. It's so clean. Modern. Nice. The carpet was so clean that my socks didn't even get dirty walking around without shoes on. The service was great. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The staff at the free breakfast were nicer too. I'm vegan and got an English muffin with peanut butter and jelly and coffee with Silk vanilla almond milk. Yay breakfast!! It was quiet, clean, a great price and just what we needed for an overnight stop before we figured out new tires and the long drive to N. California. Thank you Best Western for the overnight respite that was much needed.

A long, curvy mountain road takes you to the Elkhorn Valley Lodge B&B. The drive, as my husband…read morepointed out, is reminiscent of the opening scene of The Shining. I told myself that this was not an omen of things to come. Luckily, I was right. The property is adorable. The rooms are charmingly decorated. The common room has enough kitsch, games, and books to keep anyone entertained. The food was great. The views are amazing. The horses next door are adorable. But where this place really shines is the service. We were at the Elkhorn for my mother-in-law's wedding. I'll spare you the story. Just imagine one of those cheesy romantic comedies where the bride's trip to the altar is riddled with sometimes-funny, sometimes-tragic obstacles. Now imagine that character that is the glue that keeps the whole plot line moving towards the inevitable "you may kiss the bride". That someone was the lodge's owner, Larry. He's an amazing guy, that Larry. If every hospitality establishment gave as good of service as he does, no one would ever stay home. Also, his mom Robin makes *amazing* home potatoes for breakfast. Even if Larry wasn't there, the potatoes would have me wanting to come back (but for that drive -- I get carsick easily). I really want to give the Elkhorn 5-stars, but I can't in good conscience do it while there is one glaringly huge problem with this place: the septic tank de-gasses into the upstairs bathroom, thanks to a lack of proper ventilation. You have to keep the drains covered or a nasty methane smell will permeate the powder room. Eww. Hard to relax when everything smells like poop. Larry says he will fix this. Once he does, this place easily earns that final star.

Given the "antique" shop opportunities is might be much busier during the tourist season. The service was small-town nice, food came quickly, and the menu had lots of choices.
