Troy, like the other major cities around the Capital Region, exist because of the river. Yes, technically the Hudson isn't a river, but rather a tidal estuary. But "Tidal Estuary Park" doesn't really roll off the tongue.
It's lovely to have this piece of land along the waterfront in Troy dedicated for public use. Sometimes it's a farmers market. Sometimes it's the grounds for a festival. But I like to walk along the river after a dinner in the Collar City, just to enjoy the view.
The park would be nicer if there was more shade, and maybe a little less concrete. And then there's the issue of the big gaping hole where City Hall used to be.
But even that crumbling infrastructure is part of the charm. It is. Of course, Troy is on an upswing, and development will one day fill in that hole. Maybe with a movie theater. Maybe with something else. We'll have to wait and see. I'm just glad that I don't have to be the one to make those decisions. read more
