I'm sure this park is nice during the day, but it felt super sketchy at night... maybe it was the whole walking under a tunnel thing. However, during the holidays they do have a holiday event set up here and on New Years they had people walking on stilts and all sorts of stuff. This is also where you go to get on the Harriott II Riverboat.

I ain't gonna lie, this was the one thing that I wanted to see when I came to the city. I mean, when your riverfront is host to an unscheduled brawl, it certainly piques the interest of the public. This wasn't some little brawl either, when it was all over national news and social media...we all saw it, I don't need to go into it anymore. I attempted to visit this on a few occasions while here. The closest I got was the entrance gate. I honestly loved this approach to the area, they solved the problem of the train tracks that would have hindered access. The underpass from the downtown area to the riverfront, amazing. You can also access this underpass from a stairway from the left when heading to the riverfront. The walkway was well lit and wide. Allowing for crowds to pass through the area with ease. If you go towards the downtown area you enter the celebrity walk area. When I went to visit the one night it was closed to the public. They were closed because of the danger of flooding. There wasn't any, but with storms rolling through before my arrival and the one we had while there, they were being cautious. Better safe than sorry. But remember to bring your own chair when necessary.

Took a slow stroll here to absorb it all. There isn't much to see but I was drawn to visit the park based on its history, being one of the locations enslaved Africans were shipped to be bought and sold and to learn the history of the confederacy in the area. While I appreciate the significance of the place, it was difficult at times reading and learning about what took place at this very spot. That noted, the tunnel entrance was clean and well lit The Harriett II steamboat IS docked here. Available for cruises that include diner and entertainment on board. There are other tour boats you can ride on the river as well for a fee. There is a display wall that highlights a chronological history of Montgomery. Also on site is the Amphitheater and Baseball stadium. Very informative

The area is smaller than you expect on the map, however it's quaint and a great backdrop to the area. There's a small amphitheater that looks perfect for a small venue concert, though could easily get overcrowded given the size. The walking trail stops now with a gate on one side over the bridge and into a parking garage, however there is an extended ability to follow a map...just not on the water, more through town. What struck me most was the lack of people until I realized that the city is pretty much a ghost town (and I am not exaggerating) on the weekends. If you get 3 blocks off the water you pass 4 people in 30 minutes, which explained the 4 people we saw on the grass and handful of couples enjoying the view on the water. Worth a stop - just a 10-15 minute one, not really a walking area. The monument with the tiles of the capital was super cool. Each one has multiple colors to it and was hand picked to make the tile mural - highlight of the Riverfront.

Had a great time today at the splash pad. Brought my daughter and her friend here for a playdate. Came early on a weekday, around 10:30am, they had the whole place to themselves for a good hour and a half. So I would say most people bring their kids late morning till noon. This would be a marvelous place to fly a kite or have a picnic.

The gentleman that answered the phone said there was space and told us to try to be there before dark. We arrived at 6:30pm, which was after dark, and were told we couldn't camp because he had locked the gate. It would have been helpful if he had told me on the phone not to bother coming if we were going to be there 30 minutes after dark instead of saying "try to be here before dark". We are now in a hotel in Montgomery. Thanks a lot.

Luckily, we paid, and were then calling the phone number to get the code, when someone who was camping pulled up behind us and put the code in for us. The small road bridge leading from the main land to the island was a little scary for me. Good thing there wasn't a car coming the other way, or I would have freaked out even more. This land is wonderful. I could see the appeal to kayak, fish, or have a picnic here, or even camp here. We stopped at the bathrooms first, and they are clean and provide running water. On our drive to the town of Spectre, we ran into the goats. We were driving down the road and all of the goats were coming at us. We put the car in park and enjoyed the goats. One goat even jumped up on my door to say hello. They are fabulous and very friendly. When we exited the vehicle at the Spectre movie set, a super friendly goat was charging at me, I immediately went into the car and the goat approached my boyfriend. All the goat wanted was some pets. And that's what he got. They are like large dogs. There are swing benches around the lake and it is nice to sit and enjoy the scenery. Watch out for goat poop. That is the only bad thing. The goats keep the island well manicured and provide the best entertainment and are adorable.
