Crystal's View Bed and Breakfast in North Vancouver is by far the most beautiful, elegant, yet comfortable home we have ever stayed, and beautifully decorated. Crystal and John are by far the best hosts we have ever encountered. They are extremely personable, fun to be around and have the most excellent service we have ever received at a bed and breakfast. Crystal's cooking is comparable to any other gourmet breakfast. Their property, inside and out to include the rooms are immaculate. Crystal's BnB is impeccably maintained as is the inside of each room of their house. We not only enjoyed their company, and our accommodations , we plane to make Crystal's our place to stay whenever coming to Vancouver. If you love small venues, Crystals is the place to stay!

Before I start grab a complimentary port or scotch or sherry. Then let's take a tour. Ok. It will be short tour. They just have a few rooms. But first well stop at the little side kitchen where you can help yourself to coffee, tea, soda and water. For a charge they also have wine and beer available. This is also where you hang your key when you leave the house so they know who is here. We got the Under the Apple Tree Room which was spacious and nicely decorated. It even had its own private yard. Also has gas fireplace, jacuzzi style tub and stand up shower. The heated bathroom floor was a nice touch. If you get tired of your room you can also enjoy sitting outside on a deck or the living room. We really enjoyed relaxing on the couch back in our room in front of the fire place. Morning came a bit too soon. Was hard to get up out of the super comfortable down blankets on the King bed. The breakfast was ready though and included three delicious courses. Polenta with almonds, banana kirsch, and smoked salmon with poached egg on toasted croissant. Yum. Virginia's breakfast was all the better by Brian's entertaining stories of 5 years in the service business now.

Our room was big and comfy with a remote control fireplace that adds real heat into the room and a large old school bathtub. Big enough for two.... Breakfast was delicious! We rented…read morethe "Eagle's Nest" (studio with ocean view) through Booking.com because we wanted the larger space and the view. It was expensive, but I wanted a romantic weekend, so I was willing to pay a little more. She did offer the much smaller "Romantica" room when we arrived so we wouldn't have to walk up all of the stairs which we declined. The "Eagle's Nest" is in a well-converted attic space. There are drawbacks due to the nature of the room, though (slanted roof lines made getting in and out of bed tricky.) The bed itself was comfortable, but she had a protective covering on it, which made it slippery. Since we had to climb in and out at the foot of the bed, it kept trying to slide off. Easy enough to just push it back in place, though. The futon was about as comfortable as any futon ever is, but there was a nice table in the room where we could play cards. I was disappointed that the refrigerator in the room didn't seem to work. The "ocean view" is actually a view of the harbor on an inlet through a small, attic window. If the view is what you're after, get a different room. For breakfast she made omelets to order served with toast, ham or sausage, and yogurt with fruit. There is parking on the street in front of the house, but also more parking in the back. Just ask Margaret and she'll help you find it.

Margaret (the proprietor) screwed us! Do NOT trust her. Ruined our weekend!…read more For our anniversary, we were looking forward to a 3-day romantic weekend at a B & B in Vancouver. After looking for something within our price-range and location, we booked through Expedia. I called Margaret to verify the room and she offered the room to us for less money if we went directly through her. She took our reservation on April 22, 2015, and also took a credit card to guarantee the room, sending us a confirmation on April 23, 2015. "...this is to confirm your reservation in " Ocean Breeze " for 3 consecutive nights starting July 3rd- July 6th ; name of the room is romantic " Eagles Nest suite " overlooking Vancouver Harbour / Cruiseships rate $ 199.00 CAD + 18 % local tax , full breakfast is included..." We arrived very late from California on Friday, July 3, 2015, and Margaret sold our room to another party - even though it was prepaid. She did NOT hold our room - selling it to another party because she could get a much higher rate during this busy weekend. She did move us, arbitrarily, to a company apartment she rents out. We got in so late, we did not have a moment to think. Unfortunately, the apartment is located 2 blocks from very active train tracks and a main transportation street with lots of traffic waking us about 6:30 AM. Good luck sleeping through the trains coming through! If you were looking for a romantic B & B - overlooking Vancouver Harbor and conveniently located providing walking access to the Seabus to downtown Vancouver, would you want an apartment 2 blocks from the train tracks overlooking a Chevron Station and 5 lanes of traffic in a commercial zone? Friday night, Margaret even said... "we could get our coffee at the gas station in the morning!" Margaret did all this, because she was greedy and could charge more for the room than what she agreed to in our reservation. If she did this to us, she has done this before and will do it again. Maybe to you...

The day time staff were really lovely and kind. They stored our bags for a late departure, left very good instructions for a late arrival, no complaints there. The decor is tired and old. We booked two rooms (we were in the Master Suite on the ground floor and the Penthouse, despite booking 8 months in advance and asking to be on the upper floor to be closer to our kids on the top floor), one with A/C, the other without. The one without (Master Suite) was fine the first night, sweltering the remaining two. A standing fan in the room was insufficient and cut out if you went above 2nd speed. Bathroom is one step above a hostel bathroom with a 1970s spigot, no working fan either and the beds were saggy. For what we paid, this hotel really could use some sprucing up. Perhaps the other rooms are better. The master suite was not great. The Penthouse was better. The evening staff person had a 1 1/2 hour personal phone call on speakerphone reverberating throughout the house. We couldn't enjoy the common area at all because of her loud, lengthy conversation. Not the sort of B&B experience we've come to expect. A quibble about the breakfast. You have to pre-order which is totally fine, but the one day when we really needed to leave early, the breakfast didn't come to us for 45 minutes after sitting. It threw off our visit to the suspension bridge, putting us on a bus an hour later than desired and we were stuck with huge crowds. We ended up not even having the breakfast at the hotel the next day as we didn't want to have a repeat...we far preferred our wonderful coffee and breakfast at 49 parallel roasters, which I recommend too. All in all, would we do it again? If you get a spruced up room, perhaps. If you are visiting outside of the hotter times of year, sure. But avoid the master suite and if you have plans that are on the early side, make sure to let them know that you are hoping for an on time breakfast.

I can't say enough about how amazing of a stay this was and would highly recommend it.

Other than the pre-reservation communications, they were hands off--which was fine for us. We also were able to leave our bags on-site after check out, since our flight out was later in the day. The room was nice and cozy. Not fancy like a newly renovated hotel, but cozy for a B&B and felt like a house in a neighborhood, rather than a 30-story hotel. So that was nice. Breakfast was great each morning. I recognized Yumiko's accent as Japanese, so we talked in Japanese (her, fluent, me, poorly). Warm pound cake/muffin, fruits, coffee, and warm bagel with eggs/smoked salmon. Was a great way to start each morning. Barclay House is a few blocks from Robson Street, so it was easy to walk to and explore. Also close to Stanley Park, so a good central location for us. The next time we go to Vancouver, we'll look to stay at Barclay House.
