I went for some tests that I needed and the check-in process was fast and efficient, and I was called in for my scheduled appointment right on time. Although my primary care physician is the amazing Dr. Leticia Gonzalez, I was recently assisted by Dr. Pinzon, who was thorough and attentive to my needs. The staff at the office were all very kind and professional. The person who withdrew my blood was especially skilled, as I barely felt a thing--it was quick and painless. I began the process and was checking out the list on which medical insurance plans they accept. It clearly states "Welcome all Riverdale Family Practice patients." I called and it was confirmed, they no longer accept my medical insurance to continue with my primary care physician (PCP). Well this sucks! I love my doc. But, due to my insurance, I am now denied coverage for medical visits at the "new" Optum. What a huge disappointment. Hope, they add my insurance to their "approved list" because I want to stay with my PCP, that I trust, is down to earth and have for years a good working relationship with, for my health. My mom took my aunt last week to this clinic as a walk in patient because she was feeling ill. The front desk treated her horribly. She doesn't remember the name of the lady at the front desk but she has blond hair. My aunt was humiliated by this particular lady. She was impatient, rude, demeaning, she had a very bad attitude, Unprofessional! My aunt is never going back and she doesn't even care to go back for her results. This is a terrible practice. It saddens me terribly to write this review. I have been going to Riverdale Family Practice for primary care since the late 90s, despite working (and really liking the specialists) at CUIMC. The doctors at RFP have been very good, and they still seem to be that way, but I am now looking for an alternative for primary care. Until recently I had a good relationship with the place, and nver considered going anywhere else. Several months ago one of my favorite doctors there, who I had seen for 25 years, retired without notice. Then RFP was bought by Optum, and it has been a nightmare ever since. Transitioning to the new Optum website and EHR system (one of my professional areas of expertise) was something no user should have had to contend with: the data transfer was inaccurate and incomplete - for example, the causes of my parents' deaths were listed completely wrong. Their website is a joke, a horror show, it can take 20 minutes to load, and when I try to use the "Schedule Online" option it gives me a JSON error - I'm a software engineer with 25 years of work in the medical field, and believe me, I can tell when things are broken. The culture at the front desk, while originally manageable, was never stellar, but it now seems very impersonal and uncaring. When they were RFP it was possible to walk in early in the morning and see a doctor within an hour. Now, you can only walk in in case of an emergency or to refill a prescription, otherwise, you need to schedule an appointment. Since the website scheduling system is broken, I recently called for an appointment with one of my other favorite doctors to discuss an immediate issue, and was told that the next opening was in 7 weeks. Extremely disappointed with they way the clinic has handle many things, but this was like a cold shower. In the end it is about the money and not the well being of the patient. The quality of service and care has been rapidly declining over the past few years. I will no longer be returning after my last visit. During my last visit, I waited for 3 hours to be seen, an hour alone sitting in a patient waiting room. I have never waited 3 hours, but it is the norm to wait 1.5 to 2 hours for a walk in visit. There were two loud verbal arguments between patients in the waiting room. The receptionists and assistant office manager who was the acting manager on site simply acted as if these arguments were not taking place, as patients got in each others' faces and screamed at each other. This did not make for a welcoming climate. The receptionists were unresponsive to clients who asked questions, pretending as if they were too busy working and unable to hear patients, when asked about how many people were in front and approximately how long the wait was. They were probably tired of answering that question, but if patients are waiting abnormally long periods of times, it should prompt some reflection from the people who manage the offices. At one point, apparently when I had stepped out after being told that I would not be seen for at least another hour, the office staff must have made the decision to ask patients to wait in the hallway and then locked the door so no one could come into the waiting room. Patients were unable to communicate to receptionists during this time. This was done supposedly to maintain social distancing as at one point there were too many people in the waiting room, but because it was not done methodically or logically, there ended up being more people crowded in the hallway (not 6 feet apart) than in the actual waiting room. Upon getting inside the patient area, the bathroom was filthy and had no toilet paper. No one had been monitoring the cleanliness of the facilities evidently. There were 4 doctors working, but things moved extremely slow. Again, I waited for exactly an hour and five minutes inside the patient room before being seen (this was not counting time waiting in the waiting room - 2 hours). The office is very poorly managed overall. It does not make for a nice experience. They clearly need a new office manager because the way things are being run is very disorganized and unprofessional. A change in management may lead to improved experiences for patients. Some discussion regarding what can be done to resolve patient concerns, improve service, and minimize wait times is needed. They will lose a lot of patients in the meantime. Also, I have a hard time getting a receptionist on the phone each time I call. I routinely wait on hold for ten or fifteen minutes just to hang up. You often have to visit the site to speak to someone. There is no email address for the purpose of communication either. Big time flaws in management once again. read more

They're rude and disorganized and super unhelpful. There is a prompt to leave a message, if you do leave one asking to call back, they won't. If you happen to get a receptionist they are rude. THE WORST medical office I've ever visited. Constant misinformation from the staff and then bad attitudes when you call them on it. Personal information is heard throughout the waiting room because people working behind the desk have no concept of volume and how their voices carry. They cannot keep paperwork straight. This place sucks!!! I went there for the last time this past Saturday for the very last time!! I went in on an 'emergency' basis because I was wheezing, ears, throat and chest hurting. Mind you, I'm a chronic asthmatic and they know this. Got there at 10:50am and I ended up leaving at 12pm still not being seen. I was put in a room in the back 10 mins after I got there. I waited an hour in that room about 45 mins, wheezing and coughing, and then the doctor walked right past my room and went into the room next to mine to a patient that had just been put in there 15 mins prior. I waited another 15 mins before I got up and walked out. This isn't the 1st time the wait has been long. I once waited 2 hours after being put in a back room. The staff is no help either. All they do is shrug and say sorry. Literally, shrug, roll their eyes, apologize and walk away. It's ridiculous the service that is given there and this was the last straw! RFP IS A JOKE!!! Avoid it at all costs!!! (I ended up going to CitiMD where they gave me a nebulizer treatment 3 mins into walking in and I was diagnosed with strep throat. As I write this review, I am waiting for the office to pick up the phone. It is my22nd call today. each call lasts an average of 20 minutes. After that time, I decide to call again and try another selection, in the hope SOMEONE will respond. 22 minutes ago, someone actually picked up. I told him of my many calls and how much I appreciated his help. After 22 minutes, the call was disconnected. he never called back. So, here I am again. Two stars only because the doctors aren't at all bad. I think had a diagnostic issue one time, but nothing serious. The desk staff and assistant medical staff are abhorrent. Anytime I need to take a walk to the doctor, I feel like I'm at the DMV. No hello, no eye contact. They'll ask you why you're there out loud in front of other patients (HIPAA??). I once asked the phlebotomist to please stop because she was unsuccessful, and hurting me, and she did not stop. Left a nice hematoma. I technically could have pressed charges. When a patient says stop- you STOP. This practice could have a much better reputation if the owners would wipe the support staff and start new. The front desk staff require more training in confidentiality. They call people up to the counter and ask them to state their Date of Birth, phone number and other questions out loud. The entire waiting room hears this. They call people by their first names. When I tried to correct them, it was hastily dismissed, she would not even apologize. My appointment was at 10:30 I arrived at 10:10. By 11am I still had not been called despite seeing others come in and get seen within 15 minutes. When I inquired to one of the receptionists she said I would have to wait as I was scheduled for a physical. It took me 6 weeks to get an AM appointment that would minimally impact my job and here now I had to wait even longer. They had already collected my copay, in frustration I requested a refund. I have been a patient here since the mid-1990's, and I urge you to stay away from this uncivilized madhouse of administrative hell. The receptionists are often unprofessional, ill-spoken, and rude. They are prone to hang up if you have a complaint, ask their name, or request a manager. While the offices are clean and the original practitioners like Franzetti and Gonzalez are very good, there is a constant revolving door of new physicians who don't always seem engaged or competent. After being a patient for about 20 years, my assessment of the doctors is as follows: Franzetti- A lovely man, great doctor, truly cares about his patients. Gonzalez- Friendly and competent. Masselli- A good doctor with a less than enjoyable bedside manner. Sedlackova- Decent doctor, if a bit cold as an individual. Not only does she refuse to prescribe birth control on moral grounds, but several years ago, she mis-diagnosed me with a stomach virus when it was actually life-threatening appendicitis. After several days, I ignored her diagnosis and went to the ER, where my appendix ruptured in the waiting room, resulting in emergency surgery, one week's hospitalization, and a month-long recovery. Had she properly diagnosed me or advised me in the first place, I would've been spared a lot of pain and suffering, and my appendectomy would've been less complex. Pinzon- Wasn't at all invested in my appointment. When I called him about complications with birth control, it became evidently clear that he knows very little about women's bodies and the effects of birth control, which is pretty unacceptable for a general practitioner. I have been coming to RFP for 22 years. I have never been more DISAPPOINTED in a company that has gone downhill so dramatically. It seems as if ever since they left the old location, they left their work ethic as well. The receptionists don't acknowledge your existence when you've been standing in front of them for more than 5 minutes and when they finally do, you're greeted with a sigh or a slight eye roll or sometimes both. They don't try to work with your financial situation, I understand there is a new policy of you can't see the doctor unless you pay ahead of time, but at the same time many of my family members have not only had their copay billed to them in the event of they can't afford the copay or test results, but they have no compassion when you try to explain your situation. Especially if you have a previous balance on your account, I guess they don't think about sending invoices anymore because they spring it on you with your copay. I was billed for a procedure in July but found out about it 3 days ago in August. If my balance is so OUTSTANDING, why is it so difficult to send invoices? If you request a specific doctor, a lot of times they give you who THEY feel like giving you. I do not need to see doctors who I have already seen and felt uncomfortable with and have been given terrible information from. Dr. Groves has been seeing me almost 13 years and has always been the greatest help. She is honestly the reason why I haven't completely cut ties with this place. She seems to be the only one that cares about her patients genuinely. I have been told by a nurse practitioner that a condition I have had in the past (which they would've know about had they taken the time to read my file for more than 5 seconds) was a completely different condition, told me to just take a pill, and didn't at all mention a follow up. It amazes me how you could be a doctor of medicine, prescribe medicine to innocent patients, and not give a single crap about how it affected that person. if you're going to give this place a shot, proceed with caution and ask to see Dr. Groves. Before I write this review, let me just address whom my doctor is. Dr. Jill Groves who is absolutely sweet and lovely and very professional. So this review is not about her. It's about the office itself. On to the shitty part. The other doctors suck. They are unengaging and one of the male doctors are rude. Once I had a naval infection and he said, with an annoyed face, quote "the only way to fix this is to lose weight or else it will keep happening". Well gee, thanks for the compassion, doc. The worst part. The receptionists. There are a couple of nice ones but majority are rude and unorganized. Some let me get away with seeing my primary care physician on a walk in and some dont, even though I always tell them I am willing to wait. They are not welcoming whatsoever. You could be standing right in front of them and they'll be staring at the computers. I have HIP insurance. Everyone knows (especially doctors and medical receptionists) know the protocol for hip. They require an authorized refferal for any specialists. I have been given the run around several times because the receptionists never get the correct refferal! How can you be a medical receptionist and not know how to draw up a viable refferal based on the patients insurance? The nurses seem like teenagers out of highschool. Not proffessional. Although they have never been rude. This office is not quiet and speedy, if thats what you want. The doctors take forever to see you after the nurse takes your vitals. I love Dr. Jill Groves which is why I haven't switched to a different office. If she left, so would I. Avoid them and go elsewhere. read more

I'm the angry husband of an educator being forced back to work, one who more than qualifies for a medical exemption due to a long history of pre-existing medical conditions, yet she can't get one despite leaving over two dozen messages because it's quite clear that they just refuse to pick up the phone and let the machine answer the call, with all the messages being promptly erased. I suppose I'm especially irked, being a former receptionist who took his job VERY seriously, and I was not in a role in which the healthy and well being of individuals rested on my shoulders. Sorry to say I have to give the office 2 stars. The doctors that I have seen are excellent. The problem is the staff. Best of luck to you if you want to speak to the same person twice. A different person answers every time. No exaggeration. If you need something done...a referral, a refill, a message to your doctor, be absolutely sure to get the name of the person you spoke to. Then don't take for granted that whatever you requested will get done. I have arrived on 2 different occasions to a specialist's office just to be told that my referral had not been faxed. The wait time to see a doctor is much shorter since the office has relocated but be prepared to spend a sizable amount of time on hold when you call. One time I was on hold for 8 minutes, hung up, called back, asked for the same person I had spoken to and she asked me again what I was calling for then put me on hold for another 4 minutes. I have worked for doctors and know for sure how stressful it is...dealing with insurance and the demands of others but with SO many people working there, you'd think the workload would be a bit more balanced. I'm surprised at some of the low marks here. I'm not sure what would make me give a GP a 5 star review so I'm reserving that :) Maybe if they were open 7 days a week I'd give it 5 stars. I've been going there about 3-4 times a year for over a decade and never had trouble with the reception staff, both at the new Corlear office or their old office 2 blocks away. I usually see Jill Groves who seems very engaged with her patients. I'm assuming that D.M's doctor that commented about the naval infection was Frank Villi. He's a no-nonsense straight talker. I think more doctors should be straightforward and do less sugarcoating of a situation (reserve the sugarcoating for terminal situations where it's warranted). His frankness can go a ways to preventing a problem in the future. Overall I've had a good experience at RFP and am glad they are here to service the community read more
