Upper…read moreBolton isn't very large and not worth kayaking but I would say the fishing should be good because of the aquatic plant life: lily pads Bull Rushes and the like. I couldn't put my kayak in because of the Fire Dept drills that were going on but hope to do it next weekend. Middle Bolton is smaller than Lower but has less houses which makes it nice if you seek a serene spot to nature watch. The Lower and the Upper are both beautiful and a wonderful natural resource for water activities but note motor boats are limited in size so you won't be seeing any water skiing there, just fishing, sailing and kayaking...nice!

Service from the phone call to when we left was A++++ They set my son, ferret and myself up with two paddle board or SUP boards.. They also have canoes, and kayaks as well. Amazing rental price of 20 an hour and 10.00 for each extra hour..which is very reasonably priced. They also include a life jacket and if you would like a waterproof case for your phone at no additional charges. The staff were warm and friendly. And they just adored my ferret named Francis. We all headed out and ready to tackle the mighty CT river. Which I feel with all the wacky weather and rain that we've had the currents are a little stronger than normal. Due to my own personal health issues I gave up before the hour my son stayed out a little bit longer than I did but closer to the area where we started off. And Francis was over it too and took an swim. We did actually have Sunshine for once!! Overall we had an amazing experience. When I do go back I would most likely try a canoe or kayak. I do love supporting family owned and run small businesses here in Connecticut this is one of those hidden gems that you definitely have to try out before the summer ends!!!!

He is very informative and personable . You park in back of BARTS , and get a ride up the river . Cannot beat the price ! You pay one price and get a kayak for the entire day ! We went today and what a treat ! We were able to see SEVERAL bald eagles , and two guarding a nest ! This is a good river for first timers , the water is never too deep to feel unsafe . It takes about 3-4 hours to get back down the river to BARTS depending on your level of kayaking . There are several little water ways you can turn into and explore ! We've seen all kinds of wild life . The bird sounds and sightings are incredible . Highly Recommend for a relaxing day on the river and supporting a small family business !

Often thinking, this Historic Mill Pond and upstream stretch of the Scantic River must be tackled. That day finally arrived. A later Monday afternoon in July. Should be quiet. Wrong, the Park was bustling. Busy with Park goers: Nature people by the pond, one person enjoying their laptop on a shaded picnic table, kids on the playscape, other kids fishing with a parent and some with a grandparent, and then there were the kayakers loading and others unloading bound for and some returning from the same adventure. A great Small Town feeling. I unloaded and hiked my kayak & gear down to the boat ramp. Chatted with a few, the usual, the great weather, did you fish, how far did you go or plan to go. Public Safety Notice: 1. The upper side of the Mill Dam is dangerous and boaters are warned to stay clear. 2. If you're a first timer like I was, bring a GPS to track your route out and back. There are many dead-end coves and depending on the water level numerous ways to lose the River. There are Orange markers/blazes to follow the River Trail. 3. Wear your Personal Flotation Device (PFD). The Pond, in July was weedy and there was a great deal of surface algae in sections of still water. The main flow of the Scantic was fairly clear and on this trip the water level allowed easier passage across sunken or semi-sunken obstacles. Yes, bugs abound, but so do fish for anglers and foul for watchers.

Sarah made the whole process quick and easy. As soon as we walk up we were greeted, and size up for proper fitting life jackets. We were also offered use of dry bags. Next we walked down to the launch chose our kayaks, and the staff helped us getting in and shoving off. When we came back the staff again was there to help us. East Brimfield Lake, also known as, Long Pond. It is a nice, lightly developed body of water along…read morethe Quinabaug River Canoe (Kayak) Trail. The Lake/Pond is frequented by fishermen, canoeists, and kayakers. It's easily paddled along the circumference, just watch for a few shallow stones and stumps. The entire body of water covers approximately 420 acres. There are three sections, North, Middle, South. North to Middle requires a short portage across a narrow bridge. Middle to South is passable below a Route 20 over pass. The South section leads further to the South on the River Trail. We usually park on the North side of Route 20 at a public boat launch and cast off into the Middle Section.

My husband and I recently started kayaking. As beginners, we aren't comfortable yet kayaking in…read morerivers, so we decided to search for a nice lake to begin our kayaking adventures in. A few friends highly recommended Mansfield Hollow Lake (boat launch), so we made the drive to Mansfield. We were not disappointed! The parking area, in front of the lake, is large, and easy to find a space to park, even on summer weekends. It's easy to get in and launch a kayak or paddleboard from the shallow shore area. The lake itself is clean and beautiful! I love the fact that swimming in the lake is not allowed (because this lake supplies drinking water) and that motorboats must maintain a speed of 5 mph or less. We haven't yet kayaked in any other lakes, but I'm sure that Mansfield Hollow Lake (boat launch) will remain a favorite of ours. Such a beautiful place!
