Backledge Falls is an 80-acre park with hiking trails, a pond, and yes...a waterfall. You'll find it on Route 93 (Hebron Ave) just on the Glastonbury side of the Glastonbury-Hebron line. There's a small parking lot at the trailhead. The trail is rather thin and has an extraordinary number of rocks and tree roots, so you really have to keep your head down and watch where you're going. Streams crisscross the park, so that explains why we found three small wooden bridges to help us navigate the wetlands. Two of those bridges had no railing, and one (a Boy Scout project) had a nice Trex railing, but just on one side. It was 81 degrees yesterday, but the high tree cover kept direct sunshine off of us for pretty much our whole time out there. There are some pretty steep inclines that had me huffing and puffing and thank the lord we had our hiking poles for balance and leverage. We walked most of the Blue and White trail, which is marked, but the paint is fading and in need of a refresh. We met around half a dozen groups of hikers, and each group was nicer and friendlier than the one before. read more

It was a beautiful late November day and perfect for a hike. Blackledge Falls is right in town though I've only been one other time after a snowfall. The hike is fairly easy with a small incline but a lot of small rocks on the "blue-white". As it was November, leaves covered the trail and made some spots slippery. The falls themselves were disappointing ... more like a dribble than a falls but it was still a nice walk in the woods. Perhaps springtime after the thaw is the better time to come if seeing a waterfall is your goal. read more

I LOVED this hike. I parked at the gay city park entrance. It took 2 hours to walk to the falls and back from that side. The woods was so peaceful and beautiful along the way and it was a pretty flat and easy walk. Lots of the pathways were muddy and slippery. The falls were stunning and much larger than I expected!!!!! There is a place to park closer to the falls where the walk to the waterfall would be about ten minutes. The plus side to parking on the city park side was the outhouses on the way in and out! Im not sure if there were trail maps or not but I have the AllTrails app in order to navigate the trails in the park since there are several different trails. This helped us from getting lost near the power lines where the trail was hard to see! 10/10 recommend this hike!!!! read more

This hidden gem is a perfect place for light exercise or just to lose yourself in Nature. I frequently come here to view one or more, depending on recent rainfall, of the waterfalls. I find this my favorite place to go to just be alone and think. The ease of the walk and the well marked trails make it a nice place to just get away. The trails are well kept but it is woody terrain so one needs to wear the right shoes. I often bring my dog. I don't see other dogs but my Jeannie is well behaved and I pick up after her so I see no issues there. As it is not a dog park, I do keep her leashed though. If you want to get away and time is limited, I highly recommend this place. Bring a lunch and sit by the waterfall (but take your trash when you leave) and you will come to love it as much as I do. read more

Worst signage ever! Maps online don't match the trail colors. Went for what was called an easy hike to the falls and ended up 3 miles away at Gay City. Pretty views but terrible maps and signage. Much room for improvement. read more

First time here hiking.. there's a map to assist in the parking lot. Easy trails but some can be challenging. Be sure to have a stick to lean on while walking. Best part is the littler waterfall. Great to bring your dogs out, just be careful with all the bugs and ticks out read more

This place is absolutely beautiful. There are not many waterfalls in the area, so we have been to most of them. I think this one is the best, its not just a tiny little stream coming off the mountain but a decent sized falls. It also is an extremely easy quick hike. Sometimes you bite off more than you can chew when you hike to falls, but this ones not bad at all. My husband is disabled and was able to hike up there. We have been back several times, highly recommend! read more

One of the best hikes in the area! Before moving, my dog and I would come here at least a few times a week. It's nearly always empty, maybe a car or two in the decent sized lot, and is a neat collection of shaded trails with unique sights to see. You can nearly always have your dog off leash since it's usually deserted. The main attraction here for many is the waterfalls (up to 3 at once if it's rained recently) and you can access them pretty easily (less than a half mile from the parking lot). There is a posted map sign and well marked trees along the trail to guide you there. It is a steep hill to walk down to the waterfall so wear the right shoes! In addition to the beautiful waterfalls, there's also plenty of streams (bridges built over most of them) and a lake to check out. I've seen people fishing in the lake a few times. There's also a lot more trails that loop back towards Gay City Park and one that meets up with a hilly dirt path with tall power lines that offers a pretty incredible view (sounds strange but it's true).
