All I wanted was the quoted $30 pre-assessment for my one year old teacup yorkie, Evie so I could…read morehave her spayed. Was billed $49 for the appointment and ultimately charged $130 after adding the other bs I didn't actually need (but was bullied into getting). The vet was rude and talked down to me the whole time like I was an irresponsible idiot. She also talked so fast I couldn't ask questions. About midway through the assessment the vet casually mentioned that she heard a heart murmur and that it could be heartworms and that we should treat for them just in case. She gave us a free first dose of heartworm treatment and flea and tick treatment (Evie has never had fleas OR ticks)... then put a $420 heartworm treatment plan on our next appt quote. I didn't realize it was potentially a scam until later in the evening once I'd calmed down and had a clear head. [Note: I will be getting a second opinion for her supposed heart murmur.] They also insisted on giving her two vaccinations that she wasn't due for. The rabies was due in less than a week so I was okay with that one, but the DAPPV shot wasn't due for MONTHS so the vet's "I'm legally obligated" was a complete and total lie. Do your own research, but I don't even think DAPPV is required by Texas law. Yes, it's best to have it, but she shouldn't have forced us to get it, especially not months early. After I gave up and figured updated vaccines couldn't hurt, the tech took Evie to the back to vaccinate her and test for heartworms. She brought her back with her leg literally soaked in blood from elbow to ankle. I was shocked and pointed it out and the tech apologized profusely and took her to get cleaned up but OMG. My poor baby. That same tech had asked me about Evie's parent earlier in the appt. I told her that the parents are full bred yorkie which she recited back as "supposedly full bred yorkie". Like... no... they're my friend's dogs and they're AKC registered. Why would you assume they're not what I said they are? Just an all around terrible experience and I advise you to steer WAY clear of this place. *** I attached pictures of Evie for visibility.

I was visiting a friend in Mason when my "old" lab got sick............and, as an old man I know…read morewhat an illness can do to old folks.......and old dogs. In addition, this is "my" dog and she meas so much to me it is hard to explain to anyone other than another "dog lover." BB and I have hunted birds from the Canadian border to the Mexican border and while she is long since retired I care about her very, very much. Regardless, Dr. Andy took care of my favorite, and only, hunting buddy as if she was the only thing that mattered in life (which, in fact, there are things that matter more to me, but not very many.) If you live in Mason, I would very much recommend these folks. On the other hand, if you are visiting anywhere near Mason and need for your pet to be taken care of in an utmost professional manner you cannot go wrong with Hill Country Vet.

We had to have our very old dog Oliver put to sleep, which is the most difficult time in the life of a pet and pet-owner. Dr. Rosberg was so gentle, kind, and thoughtful to all of us. He went out to our pickup so we would not have to carry Oliver in. Dr. Rosberg explained everything to us and reassured us about what needed to be done. Dr. Rosberg petted, soothed, and talked to Oliver the whole time. I know that Oliver never felt anything because I was holding him the whole time. As far as I'm concerned, a vet can't get better than this.
