I've grown up with River City coffee being THE coffee spot for my family. I remember the original location a little further down Kavanaugh and from what I remember they really only did regular hot coffee, but LOTS of bean sales. That location also sold teas and I spent hours smelling different tea blends. Now, this wonderful little coffee shop tucked into the old post office still sells coffee beans and classic coffee, but seems to have less of a bean sales area. Comfy, cozy, eclectic, and a staple of the Hillcrest area, River City Coffee continues to be a wonderful spot to grab coffee locally. The baristas were friendly and quick with our orders, and a refill for a simple hot coffee was also very quick. My latte was fresh (definitely not a place I had to worry about a dead shot of espresso!) and delicious. Mom's mocha was delightful, and she enjoyed the warm ceramic mug almost as much as the coffee inside- there's just something about being able to wrap your hands around a mug on a cold morning! Cute little cafe making use of a cozy, welcoming space! My friends and I stopped in to change and to grab a pick-me-up before our conference at UAMS. I had a sip of my friend's Nirvana latte and enjoyed it so much that I ordered it for myself as well. Bonus points for offering alternative milks at no extra charge. Jeremy was a friendly and efficient barista -wish we could have stayed to chat! If you do find yourself here for a longer time, you'll enjoy the record player belting out funky/chill tunes and the diverse selection of lit/magazines to flip through. If they were a fax and photocopy store it'd be River City Copy. A Candy store? River City Toffee. And if it were a public restroom, it'd be River City Potty. But it's not. A very very long time ago I played my first and up until now only concert in Little Rock at this place. What a lovely little cafe. The people are absolutely wonderful who run this place. They've moved down the road since when I played here because there is a lot more space here now. It's also a little more expensive than it used to be, and some of the products and drinks are pretty good. But most of all, such wonderful memories I made here with one of the best crowds I've ever had. read more

We decided on River City Coffee based on previous reviews and they did not disappoint. I had the Trifecta and my son got the lavender latte. Both were perfectly balanced with a smooth taste and light sweetness. Our barista (didn't get his name) was very friendly and helpful to us in deciding what to get. Ask for coffee ice cubes, so tasty! The oat latte isn't listed on the menu but just ask the barista and they'll make it for you. It's THE BEST coffee I've ever had, not too sweet with a smooth flavor profile. Question for the founder, is it possible to have oat milk ice cubes so that the coffee is creamier as you drink? Happened to be on this side of town after a cold morning at the dog park so stopped in for a cup of coffee. It's a small little joint with old comfy furniture and a cozy feel. The barista was very friendly and served up a perfect Americano. The temperature on our drinks were just right and the flavor was incredibly smooth. It gave me the warmth o was craving a good little caffeine buzz. It's a good quiet place to just chill out for a bit. read more

The espresso machine was broken, their tea selection is a joke - all poor quality tea bags - if you can't find a vendor for loose leaf teas, at least sell quality tea in bags! They had some good-looking muffins but they were a little expensive; I was going to check out all the paperbacks and records inside but it was too dusty to hang out in there. The wooden deck chairs outside were nice to sit in though. I think they had decaf coffee. This place could be so nice - till then I'll continue the search for a nice place to hang out on Update: it's two weeks later and the espressomachine's still broken, lol. read more

During this time it's so difficult keeping a small local business alive, especially in a space that is very tight and not conducive to social distancing. So happy to know that River City doesn't just talk the talk, but walks the walk when it comes to true community and care by enforcing strict mask wearing. As I mentioned in la "Tip". It's small, quaint, and just right. I asked the man "workin'", what was the to do at River City Coffee and Tea...? On this day he pointed to their brews of the day, but mentioned that people had also been enjoying Cafe Mocha's and Chai's all day. Soooooo... a Chai it was for me, and he didn't steer me wrong. It was quite delicious, and as I fancy myself a semi-connoisseur of most things chai. I give it my stamp of approval. Some may have considered it a little on the sweet side, but I've had quite the tooth as of late. Anywho, it was definitely local, and relaxing. They had a phono and vinyl for the masses to select and play. Buuuut, if your aim is to get lost in a book or two, well, they have some books for you to select from also. Or just bring your own, be it work, homework, or pleasure. River City Coffee and Tea was worth the stop while a friend and I needed to kill some time. Those that want to experience a coffee house that's small, quaint, and just right, should definitely put River City Coffee and Tea on their list. Oh, and they have ice cream! Inside this teeny tiny coffee shop is one of the best mocha lattes I've ever come across. I have such a hard time finding ones I like, so I was so happy that the Lavender Mocha I ordered turned out so well. It was the perfect balance between bitter espresso, sweetness and creaminess. I don't even know why I added Lavender - I just saw they had it on their menu (minus the mocha) so thought I'd give it a whirl. Pretty good, if I do say so. My husband had their cinnamon roll latte (add chocolate) and he raved about his as well. I think we are two of the pickiest latte drinkers, so the fact we were more than thrilled say a lot. The ordering area is quite narrow. I felt like I was invading the barista's personal space, even though we were separated by a counter. He was a very pleasant guy to say the least. Decor is somewhat eclectic. Pretty lampshades hanging from the ceiling in the entryway. This is your epitome of a local, hometown, espresso shop. I'd come back a million times over. read more

I throughly despise this place, some of the worst coffee by far I've ever tasted at a "popular" coffee shop. It's at the bottom list of my places to go in Little Rock now, and there was barely anywhere to study at all! Maybe a change of location would help some. The gentleman running the front also was not very nice in my opinion, outside chairs were falling apart and it just overall seemed like a weird joint. This is a totally reasonable local spot with slightly odd internal architecture and pleasant decor. They have a decent tea selection tending toward flavored black teas. Sadly no oolongs, and snacks are all either gluten or dairy in case you want ice cream with your tea. Wifi is solid and the general feel is LGBT-friendly and hipsterish. read more

I'll give it a three-four just because I think it's unfair to judge a coffee shop if you didn't actually get the coffee. Since I was on vacation I splurged my sweet tooth with some Chai. They use Oregon Chai (significant if you know chai) .... Way too sweet for me. It was a little late so I didn't want espresso... I wish I would have gotten it or some brew so I could accurately criticize, possibly be more positive. The spot was teeny but cute.
