It's a nice place for a meal in town. Better known for their pizzas we decided to drop in for lunch. They have a few outdoor seats and plenty of tables inside towards the back. We ordered pizza, pasta and also a pizza bread. The pizza bread was nice and I liked my pasta. Must admit it was nothing special but tasted ok and the portion size was good. The pizza also tasted ok and the crust was chewy but lacked a bit of flavour. They did redo a pizza which we asked for without sauce and it came out with sauce, which they redid immediately. Service is good and prices are reasonable. Probably be back here again. It's not as nice as my neighbourhood pizza joint but conveniently located when in town. read more

The best pizza I've ever eaten was at Riva Tal in Munich. No hyperbole. The wife and I were walking around with a slight buzz after enjoying a great day in Munich when we were hungry for something that wasn't beige (like all the German food we had encountered). We saw this place, heard the music, and the commotion that was coming out onto the street and it grabbed our attention right away. There was Italian pop music with Italian guys singing, throwing pizza around, and taking small shots of wine. It smelled delicious. We were intrigued. There were two spots open at the end of the bar, so we bellied up. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and the pizza and began to enjoy the show. Everyone was super friendly and having a good time. The pizza cook had a soccer game playing on his phone, people were singing, laughing, and having a great time. The pizza was so fresh and so perfect. Every ingredient was exactly the perfect amount. Absolutely delicious. When we were finished with our pizza, we were having such a great time, we ordered another bottle of wine and some dessert. I'm pretty sure the waiters enjoyed us being there just as much as we enjoyed their company. I would go here in a second if I were tired of the German fair in Munich and absolutely visit next time I'm in town. read more

The spot I visit multiple times every time I'm in Munich.... Riva is great (though, they could use a bit of air conditioning in the main dining room....if only Munich had more air conditioning....) Riva is a simple, delicious spot for a casual lunch or dinner. Every time I've been there, I've ended up with a waiter who speaks Italian - which makes it fun (though I don't speak Italian...). The pizza is simple, but with fresh, delicious ingredients. It is perfectly thin and has just the right crispiness. The wine selection is very Italian and very good. Value for the money is also excellent - the pizzas, entrees, and drinks are all reasonably priced. Service is very friendly and the atmosphere is nice (especially if you can score a spot outside on the sidewalk). read more

I broke my travel rule and ate here twice in one Munich vist. Yes, it is that good! This is probably the best pizza I've had outside of Rome. The first time I had my usual- Margherita - half with mushrooms and half arugula. They added tomatoes to the arugula half. It was delicious. The crust is thin and crispy, the ratio of sauce to cheese pure perfection. Must I admit I ate the whole thing by myself?! I enjoyed it with a glass of Nero d'avola. The native Italian guy behind the bar was very nice. I ordered half in English half in Italian. It was a Sunday and the place was always bustling and lots of families were there. I sat at the bar. The second time I went with two friends and we sat in the back. We went straight from a later afternoon meeting and had skipped lunch. All three of us ordered pizza. I had Margherita com funghi. One got the four cheese (which I tasted and it was so cheesy and amazing with hunks of blue and Brie cheese). The third person got a pizza with proscuitto and he loved it. The service was, once again, outstanding. The atmosphere in the back is quieter and as the night progressed, more intimate with candles replacing bright overhead lights. This will be a regular stop when I am in Munich. I will dream of this pizza. read more

Love it! Love it! Love it! Mind you I only got panna cotta and a cappuccino - just the best! Panna cotta was perfect - light and flavorful with raspberry sauce. Coffee was made very well by true Italian speaking barista. Even the wait staff were Italian and greeted in Italian. Awesome ambience, gentle music and perfect mood lighting. I love German food.... but even the best sausages, sauerkraut, potatoes, and mustard gets old after awhile. During our last trip to Germany, my Wife and I reached that point, and luckily we received a recommendation for Riva! This is a weekday lunch time review, diner experience may be different. Nice atmosphere. We went here for lunch on a weekday and it seems it is pretty popular among business people during that time. Hardly any open tables. Service was very friendly! The moment we walked in and the moment we left, each member of staff we passed said a friend 'Ciao'. I had a 5 seasons pizza with dried tomatoes, artichoke, a kind of ham, mushrooms and peppers. Though not a fan of dried tomatoes at all (I considered taking them off the pizza after ordering it) it turned out to be very nice. The salad of the day which the others were having also looked nice and I was told also tasted really nice. Originally we walked in for a lasagne al forno but they don't serve it in this place (apparently there is another Riva in Schwabing where they do). I asked the waiter for recommendations for a good lasagne al forno and he recommended Nero as it was closer than the other Riva. He said the lasagne at Nero is good. Let's see another time. If I had to compare the pizza to the one at Nero (I'm doing this 5 months after I've been to Nero so I hope I'm not too much off), I'd say the one at Nero is probably better as it was a bit crispier but that may also be due to the type of ingredients one each of the pizzas. read more

I paid Riva a visit with 2 colleagues while we were in Germany for business. I'm gluten-free - minus the occasional beer - and ended up here for dinner simply because my colleagues were in the mood for pizza. I though I'd be stuck with limited options but was saved by their nice selection of salads. I order their insalata nizza which was similar to a Tuna Nicoise. It was an excellent salad with a great dressing and I thoroughly enjoye it. My colleagues each order a pizza and when asked how they enjoyed their meals they emphatically nodded that they were great pizza - they were too bysu eating to reply ;) I'd certainly drop in if you are looking for this type of fare. Desserts looked quite good too but we refrained. Service was very friendly and attentive. Most of the staff seems to have been Italian and that is a plus in my book - given this was an Italian establishment. read more

Perfect location for shopping days and for being a tourist in the city centre, but this is a patchy patchy place. When it's good it's excellent, but when things go wrong it's very wrong indeed. They're extremely busy, almost all of the time, and the staff are inclined to hurry you along. Pizza is excellent, they have a proper pizza oven and will make custom pizzas for you on request. Homemade tiramisu comes in portions big enough to share, but you should order one each anyway or risk fighting over the last mouthful. Decent coffee, too, which is so rare in Munich that it deserves a mention. It's just the overcrowding and tendency of the staff to speed you on your way that puts people off. Eat and enjoy and run, but don't be tempted to linger. read more

This was my favorite pizza in Munich. The warm Italian greeting is just the first unexpected surprise. The service continues to be warm and helpful. The recipes are straight from Italy-it's utterly delicious! When truffles are in season the pasta's and pizza's are not to be missed. The salads are huge and inventive with home made dressings. This place is packed-but if you come 2-3 pm it is quiet and tranquil. Reservations are a must for dinner. His is a small and bustling treat you should not miss! read more

This place is always crowded and there is a reason for it: The pizzas are excellent - my personal favorites is the Pizza Anatra (smoked duck breast!). As the seasons change, you will find various mushrooms as toppings. Service is fast, attentive, personal, and friendly. The pizzas are being baked in front of you in the middle of the room. I've been here 15-20 times over the last year and I have never been disappointed (except, of course, when they have no tables left). As backup plan, the Schwabing location is equally good, not the least in the summer where you can sit outside. Only downside is that the place is quite small, but it's open pretty much around the clock, so it's just a matter of calling ahead or avoiding Friday/Saturday night. This place has my vote for the best pizza bar in Munich. After being here, you'll know why Munich is called the most Northern Italian city. read more

they have the pizza oven (wood-fired) and the pizza is OK. pretty typical Munich-style thin crust- the sauce is a bit bland for me. i admit i might've been a bit grumpy: we've only been at lunchtime (weekend) and maybe we need to try again in the evening, but it seems like this is THE place in Munich to take the kids - and then let them go wild. the seating includes one really long bench along the entire wall and some kid sitting on this bench rhythmically kicked that bench for about 45 min straight. it was just like being on a plane and having a kid behind you kicking your seat. another kid next to us was climbing up the bench, under the table, and back. tables are very close together so a few times the kid was perilously close to knocking over my water glass. Babies screamed. the parents ignored ALL, and sat and chatted with their friends like nothing crazy was going on. meanwhile, the acoustics in the room seem to magnify all sound. so - decent pizza (and a really great salad actually) - in a kindergarten setting - in the afternoon at least. bring the kids! read more

Best pizzas ever. They use a Stone - Oven and you notice it in the taste of the pizzas... I ate one with pistachios, granate and aubergines that made me feel in love with the place. Generally speaking, this place was okay. Selection of pizzas and salads was good and if you want a change of pace in Germany, this place was fit for that. We had the smoked duck pizza with mozzarella cheese and red sauce. It was tasty and had a nice crust. I wasn't expecting a red sauce on this kind of pizza but it worked somewhat. This place probably would have gotten more stars if they provided tap water instead of mineral water. And, if the men sitting next to us weren't so creepy in their mannerisms. A vary good and popular bar and pizza restaurant. From the outside it looks more like a bar but there is a fully packed seating area inside. It was a busy friday evening and we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The desserts were also excellent. It would be nice if they also offered tap water. Stumbled into Riva Tal based on the recommendation from a bicycle taxi college student. We were seated right away, but within 15 minutes, every table was taken and quite a line outside. Charming little place with tons of local ambiance. Italian in Munich??? Why not! it was fun to have something a little different than the Bavarian fare we have been eating. The service was pretty slow, but I never saw the server "hanging out". I think she simply had so many tables to manage that she could not keep up. We split a pizza and a salad and both were delicious. We had some wine as well. The crust is a think crust and sauce and cheeses were perfect. Lots of talking and fun. They ordered us a taxi which arrived within minutes and we had a lovely dining experience. I would give 5 stars but it really did take quite a while to get served and to pay, but hey, it was lots of fun while there. read more

Was this good or were we just hungry? Our first night in Munich we were looking for a lighter fare after eating horribly on the plane ride over. Reviews of this location were good so we walked and easily found Riva. Past most of the brauhausen, cafes and quick sandwiches shops lies this serviceable to good restaurant. We ordered the larger size pizza with mushroom, artichoke etc as well as a Panzanilla salad. No drinks today and ordered two diet cokes (or light as they were referrred to in the menu). We sat outside and I think the wait staff rotates as another wait person took our order. We luckily picked up a free Wi-Fi signal from a store across the street and made plans. The outside has a pick up window where all the orders are sent. The restaurant also has an interior and there was a steady coming and going of patrons instead of what I would call a crowd. The main dishes are pizza and salads with a few non-descript pasta dishes. The pizza came and was very thin, the way we like it. As with most European pizzas, it was light on sauce (my biggest complaint about any pizza) but had a good dough taste. The pizza was a bit tough to cut with ordinary knives for some reason but still we managed and devoured it feeling full when finished. The salad was average size but had enough endearing qualities to make a good side dish. The price point was satisfactory for the amount and taste of the food. The service was good and unobtrusive with no one hurrying you to leave as we lingered and saw many others doing the same. A good choice that night, we just hope our description and opinion is based upon the actual food and not because we were so hungry. read more
