Rite Rug was hired by my Landlord to install carpet in my apartment on a Monday at 9:00am. The job was booked approximately 2-3 weeks prior and carpet selected, and I had taken off work to be home for the install. I am a busy healthcare professional and this arrangement ahead of time required a lot of advanced planning and a request off work that required coverage. On install day at 9:30am no one showed, no one called, especially the sales rep. I texted the sales rep then she called me back and told me - the carpet was missing from the warehouse and the installers left to go service other customers. Now, I like to consider myself a reasonable guy, I can handle mistakes, goofs, lateness, attitude, even poor quality because that's just life especially with contractors - but this, was a defcon 3 level event considering the amount of preparation that went into getting ready for this day. Naturally, for a carpet install, I had spent the entire day before emptying two bedrooms and a large storage closet of their furniture and contents into my living room, dining room, hallway and kitchen which is where they sat as this call came in to inform me that the carpet was - missing - and the job was not going to be completed. While I told the sales rep to get the installers back to the warehouse to get another color carpet, this was apparently an act of God that would not occur because our Landlord had to bless a new carpet color and Rite Rug has such limited installation staff, the soonest they were able to re-book my installation (after finding my carpet) was WEDNESDAY. Yep, you read that right - Wednesday and yes, you're putting this together correctly in your head. *Yes, Rite Rug expected me to just live in my apartment with everything in the way it was (photos in this review).* No big deal to Rite Rug, sucker that I am. So I dragged my mattress back into my bedroom and slept on the floor (deconstruction of my bed takes @two hours) like a freshman college student. Here's the issue with this - I'm a Nurse/clinical instructor for patients leaving hospitals and on-call to discharge folks out. My 2nd bedroom is my office. My home is my base and Monday of the carpet install was supposed to go as planned so I could move everything back right after the install and get my operations back up and running. Because Rite Rug could not complete the simple basic business task of double checking that they had my carpet ready for the install the day prior - you know - like their ONE JOB, I had to live with my apartment turned upside down for a week. I was not able to get anything moved back till the following weekend because I worked the rest of the week, and I pretty much work 10 hour days. Naturally, I was furious. I asked my Landlord for a week's rent credit to compensate me for this debacle, they refused (and why would they, they didn't do anything, technically). So, I asked the sales rep for the money back through them, and nothing. All I got was an offer for the installers to move my heavier items back (which is only 6 items) into the bedrooms after the install. That was a 15 minute task involving a mirror, a bed post, a door, a bookshelf, a free weight set and two water jugs (and in fairness of that, I actually only asked for 4 days of rent credit - $187). So this business, which disrupted my life, the life of a healthcare worker, for an entire week for a mistake of epic proportions could not even bring themselves to cut their bill down $187 to compensate me for living with my apartment in complete disarray and having to sleep on the floor without a bed for a week. I find their lack of sensitivity to the entire situation unconscionable. Oh, wait - the sales rep did text me an apology that Monday, I don't want to leave this out - "so sorry for the issues this morning." Rite Rug - SHAME on you for not having the decency to admit when you were wrong, not making things right, and not being able to act with honor. (Pictures featured are what my apt looked like Monday - Wednesday afternoon, after Wednesday the items mentioned above were moved out but everything else stayed until Saturday, the next day I had off where I could devote to the move back to the bedrooms). Momma taught me to always try and say something nice, so I will - the actual install was done well - not a flaw. THAT is their earned star. read more
