Rita manages a property for her husband's mother in North Austin. I lived there for 3 years, two of them dealing directly with her mother-in-law, who was quite pleasant and helpful. The last year I lived in the property, Rita and her husband Cliff took over the property management duties. The lease renewal/extension went well (other than one conversation where Rita's tone was very condescending). Her tone and demeanor became worse when making arrangements to move out. During that time, both Rita and her husband were repeatedly rude, confrontational, and inconsiderate.
They left on vacation the week I planned to move out to relocate to Houston for a new job (I had made Rita aware of my plans weeks in advance), and told the tenant moving in that they would be away through the weekend. He had originally planned to move in later in the month, yet had to change his plans to an earlier move in date, due to a business trip. Fortunately, I was able to reach Rita's mother-in-law and she happily obilged for the move-out walk and the new tenant's move-in meeting, all done at one time on Friday morning. The new tenant is a former co-worker of mine, and he was ready to move-in the day I vacated the property.
Dealing with my relocation, in addition to my Father's relocation to IA to be nearer to family (living in MN with Alzheimer's), I would have thought that Rita would have been responsive and delighted that the move-out was taken care of. Instead, I received a brief text from her, days after I had left two voice mails, regarding my security deposit. In addition, I received a tongue-lashing from her husband first thing Monday morning, as I was sitting in my new office in Houston, surrounded by new co-workers, regarding "taking matters into my own hands" and getting his mother involved, while they were on vacation. I pointed out that I was not aware that they were plannning on being away through the weekend and that I was moving 3 hours away to Houston. I was told that was my problem, and called a liar regarding my knowledge of their vacation plans.
Rita is all smiles when you meet her, yet beware. When issues arise, her demeanor changes rapidly, and it is clear that she takes priority over the customer's needs.
