We were wandering through Zurich and got hungry. Being a little early (5pm) many restaurants weren't open yet for dinner. Bindella was open and we love Italian food in Switzerland. We wandered over and saw plenty of open tables, however most were reserved. Initally they said we would have a 2 hour wait (no thanks) but another lady said we could be seated now but only had 2 hours. Being American, that's plenty of time for dinner. Servers were very nice and we were not rushed. The soup, zuppa di pomodoro was delicious. I had the vitello scaloppine al limon which finely sliced and the tenderest veal I ever had. Wife had the linguine all venez which she loved. A great dining experience, especially since we had no reservations. Would definitely come back and next time make reservations. btw - we finished in a little over an hour ;-). read more

Another Fine Dining Experience at Bindella. Over the past eight to ten years we have dined here during all but one of our Zürich visits. Last weeks dining experience on Mothers Day Weekend was out standing. We had a booking a month in advance and were glad we did. We arrived early and were quickly seated. Restaurant was very full both inside and outside. We ordered the fresh sole, a Ragu pasta dish and a salad of fresh fennel, lemon vinaigrette with grilled scampi. Presentation of every dish was beautiful. The fresh sole arrived whole and was prepared at the table to perfection. The Fennel Salad with Jumbo Grilled Scampi was something totally different and out of this world good. I have now tried to invent this dish at home. The pasta dish was very good but just pasta as compared to the other food. Service as always was great. Even when they were so very busy. Sometimes restaurants' service are better when very busy versus not busy. Guess it keeps them on their toes! Highly recommend and will definitely return this fall. read more

Walking by the restaurant, it was packed with smiling and laughing customers, so we thought we'd give it a try. Not having a reservation, we thought that we'd either have to wait or would not be able to be seated immediately, but the hosts were able to squeeze us in between reservations. They said that the table was free for about an hour so we'd have to be efficient which wasn't a problem for us! While the host communicated the time constraints to us, I'm not sure they did with our waiter. It did take a noticeable amount of time before we got a menu. However, once our waiter came over, he was very sweet and very helpful. Overall, the service was lovely, and the food was flavorful. Both parties were happy with their meals and the desserts! Once we finished our desserts, the host was very kind but made it clear that they needed the table to seat a large party. They went the extra mile to offer us free coffee at the bar for the inconvenience. Three quick side notes: 1. the space was cozy, and I really appreciated how, at the beginning, they took our jackets for us and helped us put them on at the end. It allowed more space 2. Underneath the table, there was foam. Consequently, every time I crossed my legs and accidentally hit the table, I wasn't hitting the actual table like I usually do. 3. At least in the women's bathroom, the toilet had a self seat cleaner, which I'd never seen before, which I thought was very cool! And the bathroom in general was very clean. I want to give this place 5* but... We were a large party of 8 including 3 children aged 6-11. I ordered the fennel salad to start followed by the sole. The salad unfortunately lacked in flavor (some pink peppercorn and cilantro would have gone a long way). The sole was delicious and redeeming. It was my brother's birthday and we were served a slice of tiramisu with a candle and a song after mains. The tiramisu was pretty spectacular. We were served by an incredible woman who had so much generosity of spirit and was a true professional. When my son's mozzarella and tomato salad starter was served I asked for more bread from a different waiter who acknowledged my request but never honored it. The kids were mostly well behaved. Perhaps a little too loud at times but fully distracted by their legos etc. This isn't the restaurant's fault, but the way they handled it left me pretty disappointed: There were some elderly couples seated beside our table that seemed to be enjoying themselves and commenting on all our conversations and goings on. I get it, people watching is fun, but in Switzerland this subtle art is anything but. Towards the end of our meal as my 6 year old was getting tired and somewhat relentlessly calling for me, the patrons then started impersonating him incredibly loudly and rudely to the point of me almost confronting them (I decided against it, determined on this one trip to Switzerland not to get into a confrontation). When the patrons left they must have said something to the manager who apologized profusely to each of them for our presence!!! When we left he walked towards the back of the restaurant and unlike all the others did not thank us for our patronage. The waitress was very kind to my sons so I cannot conclude that this restaurant is not children friendly. Simply though, as a mum, it's challenging to thread the needle of being a good sport and not coming down on your kids for being...kids. The owner/manager could have been kind instead he made me regret coming at all. Perhaps that was his intent? 3 stars for final impression I was left with. read more

Bindella is an upscale Italian restaurant located off the Bahnhofstrasse in the city centre of Zurich, Switzerland. At one time, (many years ago) this restaurant had charm, impeccable service and delicious food. Today, the restaurant still maintains its charm, great location, and beautiful dining room; the food is good, but not as good as we remember. We had several dishes, some were excellent including the Beef Carpaccio, Vitello Tonnato, and Sole with lemon; however, the Fettuccine with Prawn and the Branzino fillet with tomatoe were dissappointing; the Branzino was drenched in butter which made it not eatable and the broth for the pasta was overpowering and fishy which was too strong for our pallettes. Significantly, the guests are herded in to their table and rushed through their meal. The wait staff (all male) are predominately young inexperienced waiters, and our waiter was brusque, unfriendly, and sloppy. Immediately you know that the owners want to rush your lunch to turn the table regardless of the price of wine ordered. In our case, our waiter had way too many tables to service properly; he rushed around the dining room working his tables inside and outside the restaurant with a miserable look on his face; hurried back to our table, inelegantly grabbed our bottle of wine and violently poured it into our glasses in a rushed sloppy manner with such force condensation from the wine bottle flew onto our bread and into the olive oil plate. This occurred every time he topped up our glass. Of course, not a word was said to us. Low end Diner in a train station comes to mind, not the fine dining experience we are promised and expect from Bindella. It was off-putting and disappointing. Perhaps Bindella should reset and return to their previous standards; we had a great time, but upon reflection, until the wait staff is better trained and the guest is treated appropriately, we will dine elsewhere Not recommended at this time. read more

Zurich, CH 11/5/22 Dinner with wife. Not a large restaurant so book a table. It is a very pleasant and elegant old world look. It has a small bar with 5 or 6 stools. You may be able to sit at the bar if there aren't any tables. We were staying next door at the Sorrel and told the host they sent us. He found a small table for us. The waiter was pleasant but a little pushy. They had our table booked at 8:00 so he was hoping to get us out in time. We had a couple of glasses of house Nebbiolos, good and reasonably priced. The grape tomato and mozzarella salad was good also. For entrees we had tagliatelle with shrimp. Nicely cooked aldente. The sauce, creamy lemon with capers and chunks of shrimp. It was served with a large grilled langostino on top. The dish was excellent. The second entree was veal piccata in a fragrant lemon caper butter sauce. The veal cut thin and grilled perfectly. The dish was served with a side of tagliatelle in a parsley butter olive oil sauce. Excellent dish. We were full so skipped desert. Highly recommend this restaurant. A note to keep in mind. The tap water in Switzerland is perfectly fine to drink. Don't get sucked into buying bottled water ... $11/bottle. Drink tap water. read more

Not that impressed. Cute place to eat if you sit outdoors, inside is really dark and stuffy. Service is quite good, they were really attentive and nice. However the food was not impressive. We ordered a rocket salad with shrimps as an appetizer and it wasn't bad but also felt like I could make it myself at home. Then we got a spaghetti with tomatoes and basil and the seasonal truffles with home made pasta. Unfortunately both pastas were not cooked as al dente as we would like. And the tastes were very bland, again like something we could have at home. However, we overheard the table next to us who all ordered different risottos and they were all raving about it. Maybe we should have gotten risottos instead. Oh well. Next time. read more

Never again! Food was bland (not enough spices/salt) and very expensive. I understand that Zürich is an expensive city, but the prices at Bindella seem to make fun of you to your face when compared to the unappetizing taste of the sad food. Our table was cramped and too small for three people (even though we booked a week ahead of time). We had to keep juggling wine, water, salt, bread, and olive oil the entire night while dishes of flavorless and uninspired food were precariously hanging halfway off of the table. Not pleasant or enjoyable. The worst part was the awful service! Our waiter got one of our orders wrong. Now, while annoying, this can happen. I get it. But it was more his lack of any apology and the way it was handled that was out of this world absurd. After bringing out the wrong plate, we informed him that it was not what was ordered. He just looked at us blankly and asked "well, what should we do?" Ummm... maybe bring us what was ordered??!? So two people ate, while the third person watched. Then the third person's meal came out while the other two tried to eat the cold portions of their meals that were saved to eat together with the third person, who had to wait for the kitchen to prepare the correct meal. As mentioned, the waiter never apologized. When we got the extraordinarily expensive bill, we saw that not even the coffee was offered as a gesture of apology for screwing up the order and ruining the dinner. Then, we asked if they would offer a limoncello on the house. Thus giving the waiter one more chance to at least sort of make up for this disaster. We were given a flat "no", as the waiter (who also happened to spill wine drops from our 200 CHF bottle on me during the meal), walked away. Here is my advice. Microwave some spaghetti from a can on a paper plate. It will taste better, certainly be more enjoyable, and for sure be less expensive then a trip to the horrible restaurant that is Bindella. If this is the best italian resturaunt outside of Italy then I am a Monday that can type! It's average ok way way overpriced for what you get. Got a scrambles egg and truffle dish that you couldn't even smell or taste the truffles, but I did complain and the owner took it off check. I mean if you want overpriced not bad italian with poor service and a pretty nice atmosphere this is the place to go. read more

3.5 stars. Good location and very polite and welcoming host. Other than that, I didn't feel much special about Bindella. Server was professional but a bit intrusive by coming over and over to ask to order food. Other restaurants at this level would have servers observe and come by rather gently and check if we were ready to order. A size of table for 2 is really small and so it feels overly crowded while you eat and it's not pleasant or relaxing. Pasta was good and my friend said they do great job on calf liver dish. Bread was not special either.. half white/half dark cold bread... Now that I tried, I ticked my list. Not sure if I would go back. read more

Perhaps the best Italian I have eaten outside of Italy. Perfect for a delicious, handcrafted dinner in Zurich. Our waiter was a bit gruff, but efficient and spoke to me only in Italian (which was a struggle at first, but my 2 years in college Italian paid off when I got my meal!). When we ordered tiramisu for dessert, he kind of laughed and i said "of course, because ALL Americans order tiramisu, right?" He nodded his head and then shook it. I would go here every time I am in Zurich, and it's centrally located near the Banhoff and the chic Banhoffstrasse shopping district. read more
