We highly recommend Rising Sun. They were very responsive and professional. Both Jim and Matt were a pleasure to work with, as were the installers. The installer, Guy, was savvy enough to point out how poorly our new roof had been installed which the roofers has to come back and correct. (Not related to the panel installation) Rising Sun delivered on all their promises. We couldn't be happier with our new solar panel system and being "off the grid." read more

Requested service, good in the beginning but seems like I was getting tapped along..they came out 3 times to look at system and replaced one item through RMA I decided to acquire an independent contractor to come out and look at the issues. The independent contractor got my system repaired for 1/3 of the price (from the final quote that was sent to me) and the repair was done in 1 hr. read more

Very poor communication, most non existent. You can try for months with no response. Try the other companies first. Not worth tine time to try to get a hold of someone at Rising Sun. Looks like Sun has set and gone. read more

I bought a system $60k and if I go off grid it's doesn't include my a/c (something I was not informed of) so if you go off grid you still pull power from the grid and have to pay MECO. Rising Sun isn't great to respond to any issues with the system. When my batteries had a recall, Tesla hired a mainland company to install the new ones which took 5 months. Now if I have battery issues I have to contact a company in Maine, and panel issues I have to contact Rising Sun, as I said you'll NEVER talk to anyone on the phone with them. If you are considering solar I would suggest to look to other companies. read more

Look somewhere else for proper solar service and installation. Their follow-up service is impossible to work with. Any positive reviews are from YEARS ago. You don't want this agony. read more

Rising sun solar is the only place I go for gear, installs and also troubleshooting help. Matias and crew are awesome and always show up for me. Sometimes my situation is urgent, and they always come and solve the problem. I wouldn't bother with any other company on island if I were you. Aloha! read more

There quick to want payment hard to get ahold of don't respond to emails or phone messages

Very disappointed in the service they provide. They finally answered the phone after leaving messages on their voicemail. She knows who she is but the person that answered the phone is very rude and it seems like she hates her job. I didn't deserve to be treated that way and no one does. She talked to me like I was stupid and in today's world, we don't have to treat people this way. How can you run a business a successful business when you talk down to your customers and treat them like no one. I would probably never do business with them again and will be letting others know about their lack of care and human respect. Very sad!!! I really hope the owner knows what is going on but I do see a lot of 1 stars so maybe he doesn't care? read more

0 star rating from me. Difficulty with getting service to respond, multiple emails, nobody answers the phone. I purchase 6.1kw system, less than 4 years old, I'm only producing less than 4kw on a full sun day. Dissatisfied and extremely disappointed. read more

They are extremely difficult to get a hold of when there is a problem. We had numerous delays with our installation. Now we have been having problems with our 2 month old system. I have requested on two occasions that someone explain the system to me as we were not home during the final installation. No response from the company. Now that we are having problems the response from the company is our brand new system is not generating enough power for our house. read more

What a horrible experience. Its worse than dealing with a slimy used car lot. They bait you and then they switch and after you have given them what they ask for they don't even pick up the phone. Literally. Can't get a hold of them by phone or emails. Highly recommend anyone but these clowns read more

I've been dealing with Rising Sun for a couple of months trying to get my system back online and working. I gave them access to my online account so that they could monitor my system, they made every excuse why it wasn't working, and after 2 months of screwing around were going to finally come out, disassemble my system and troubleshoot it. Some of their excuses didn't make sense so I contacted Enphase explained my problem and they evaluated my system online and told me that I just needed a firmware update which they could do remotely. Enphase updated the microinverter's firmware remotely and now my entire system is working great. To refer to Rising Sun Solar as a full service Photovoltaic company is a joke, they're basically an incompetent rip off. Beware. read more

Rising Sun installed my solar system for the previous owner. However, they are very difficult to get a hold of to ask questions. They don't return calls. I don't know what their deal is, but they aren't responsive. Maybe I'll change this rating but for now, I'm not happy with them. read more

Three things to know about Rising Sun Solar on Maui: 1. The SolarEdge equipment they install seems to fail more often than that of other brands. It had to be replaced twice the first month of operation and has now been dead for four days (3 1/2 years after the first problems were addressed). The previous installation from Haleakala Solar did not have any issues at all during the five years previous to that. 2. Rising Sun does not monitor your equipment. You are responsible for checking on it continuously and noticing that there is no output from the system. 3. If you do notice that your system is completely down (not producing electricity at all), they do not treat it a a priority to get it working again, even if you are within warranty. In our case they said they would check it out in 3 1/2 weeks because "We have a busy schedule over the next few weeks.". I could not get an answer from their service department on if that meant that they have complete system outages to address for every day of the coming weeks or if they do not consider a complete system outage as an emergency which should go ahead of minor scheduled maintenance. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! We were lied to at the very beginning. We paid $1500 in deposits for our house and cottage even though we told them we were not going to put solar on the cottage. We were told the deposit for the cottage was just to set things up for the future if we decided but no work would be done. We were given two estimates, one with battery back up and one without. There was a significant difference in price and we decided to not install the batteries due to the extra cost. Eventually, we were notified our application did not get approved by the county unless we spent an additional ~$20K for the battery system we originally told them we could not afford. When we asked for our money back due to the application not being approved they said they would only refund us $150. They said they were entitled to compensation since they had already done work on the design. We were never told they would keep our money if the project wasn't approved. Even the sales person said that wasn't normal. They are trying to keep $450 for the cottage deposit despite agreeing no work would be done for the system!! We would have no problem paying if we canceled just because we changed our mind but this was completely out of our control. We are still trying to get our money back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. read more

A friend of mine on Oahu whose a solar salesman for another company recommended Mitch Sanders of Rising Sun on Maui. Since we live upcountry where trees fall and the power fails we decided to get a system with a Tesla power wall. Mitch figured out a system that was appropriate for us. From our first meeting till the day our system was initiated I couldn't have been more happy with the entire team at Rising Sun. And by the way on our third day of having the system up and running Meco had a power outage and we were unaffected! I highly recommend Rising Sun Solar. read more

We had a mostly positive experience from end-to-end. Sales person was knowledgeable and straightforward. Our project, while not huge, was larger than most. We needed to come in at a certain price and they worked with us on that. We had visual requirements for panel positioning and other things. They worked with us on that too. Everyone we interacted with (and I mean EVERYONE), from the salesperson to whomever answered the telephone to the crew who planned the solar panel layout to the crew that installed the solar panels to the electricians to our project managers (and we had several) was always polite, professional, knowledgeable about their area (or knew who to contact) and responded within a reasonable timeframe. Overall a good experience and I would (and did) recommend them to others. Thank you team Rising Sun. read more

Office workers do not return calls or emails for 30 days. They will send out troubleshooter without notifying you and when they call to say they're outside waiting, I'm at work. Furthermore, the parts the troubleshooter said should've arrived by mail did not arrive. Apparently, the parts they needed for the repair arrived the day after they showed up unannounced. The troubleshooter said the office would contact me to reschedule the service but no one called me back. Their business practices are the worst I've ever seen. There is no continuity of information transfer when you are handed off to the 4 or 5 people in different departments of the process. I could not be more disappointed by this business. Thank you Rising Sun! You made our family's experience of installing solar panels painless! You guys are the best! The staff provided excellent customer service and answered all of our questions along the way - even when we asked the same ones more than once! If I had another house (maybe someday), I would do it all again with Rising Sun. Matt from Molokai and Melani from the Haiku office --thanks so much. You guys are awesome! Brandon S is a great salesman. Polite, informative, and got verbally chewed out by me after having done nothing wrong. Thanks for coming out on a Saturday during the Covid crisis to explain important things to my parents. I decided to get Solar on my house to lower my bills and to use sun power instead of diesel to power my house. My sales person was helpful and patient. He walked me through several different scenarios to find the one that was perfect for me. After I selected my plan, they handled everything behind the scenes. When it was time to install the system, a huge team of guys came and got it done quickly and the install looks great! My experience with Rising Sun was awesome and I would recommend using them. 100% satisfied. read more

Sorry! I have to give these guys one star. I found their sales people to be rude and difficult to work with. After sending them my electric bill, I heard nothing from 2 different salesmen. I've called them many times and left many messages over several months. They did not get back to me until I called and asked to speak to the manager. The manager seemed uninterested in how bad his sales staff interfaced with clients. The second salesman took the call when I was trying to reach the manager and was not even apologetic for dropping the ball. He seemed annoyed to even talk to me. I never heard from the first salesman after sending him my electric bill. I would not feel comfortable giving them my money because if I am treated so badly before, I can't imagine what it would be like once I gave them money. read more

Since Rising Sun Solar has installed panels on my home, my bill has gone up. I made numerous times for technician be sent out to check the system and their response was that they're monitored my system and its working fine. Rising Sun Solar is awesome!!!! From the start to finish it was great. My sales person Alex Vlahos is awesome and the installers as well. I requested the no wires to be exposed on my roof and they did a fabulous job. Even the Maui County inspector was impressed with the work!!! Rising Sun Solar quality of work is unreal. This experience was great! I recommend Alex and his team!! I'm extremely happy with this whole process! Thank you Rising Sun Maui!!! read more

I hired Rising Sun to install a ground mount solar field (54 panels) and 4 Tesla batteries. They handled all of the permits and construction. MECO and Maui County were very slow with permits but Rising Sun did a great job. Special credit to Matias, Erik and Tanner. Highly recommended!! read more

Rising Sun has completed our solar installation and we are just beginning to realize our savings. Had an initial snafu with the layout which required reconfiguring our system. Rising Sun showed integrity and honesty by sticking to their original bid even though they had to add panels to the system; there was no additional cost to us. We are very pleased, overall and would recommend them for your solar installation. Thanks, RIsing Sun for helping us go green! read more

Panels were installed in a completely different design than what I approved, random "electricians" showing up at my property unannounced and leaving materials with renter...my complaints to customer service went unnoticed as I am still dealing with Rising Sun employees showing up unannounced. No compensation offered for the multiple "snafus". Incredibly long and arduous process to have 12 panels installed. Unprofessional company to say the least. read more

Salesman rang my doorbell at 5pm this afternoon--while I was preparing dinner. I told him I was having panels installed by another company next Friday so I wasn't interested. He persisted by trying to malign the other company. I told him 4 more times I wasn't interested but he wouldn't back down. Totally unprofessional. I ended up having to slam the door in his face to get him to leave. Then I attempted to go to the Rising Sun Solar website to leave a comment but the site was blocked by my Norton security software as a Malicious Site. read more
