Excellent people, great environment, and phenomenal sensei. Definitely a school I will enroll my kids to learn techniques of self defense.

He is very stern during class but in a loving way, he jokes around so the kids dont feel bad but he actually gets the parents laughing too. I thought it would be sort of a chore to take my son to the classes but we both look forward to it now We started the classes in April, 3 days a week. Then in june he went everyday for the summer camp. He was so upset when camp was over he didnt realize he could continue the afternoon classes. Now he is so happy again going to see his karate family. His behavior has changed so much for the better, he is much more respectful towards his dad and i, and not to mention he is eating better and he is ACTUALLY TIRED at the end of the day!!! I used to take him to the park for hourrrs to wear him out but now he comes home, eats his dinner and is ready to sleep i cant thank sensei enough for all his help, if your looking for a class or even after school, contact sensei and try for a day.. i promise you, you'll see a difference.

Sensei Jose is the teacher and he is amazing! He's tough on the kids, but in a loving way. In other words, he EXPECTS discipline of all his students in and out of the class. He expects them to work hard at their karate, have good hygiene (he checks their hands for dirtiness every class. Dirty hands? Drop and give me ten push-ups!) and do chores at home and school. Sensei doesn't mess around! But the students love him. He's tough but then makes them laugh hysterically with his jokes. More kids need teachers like this. I won't go into a rant but a lot of parents coddle their kids. How do you expect them to survive the real world when they grow up if you're telling them "you're so great!" every time they turn around and giving them medals if they come in past place? Sensei don't play that. He expects hard work and dedication. In return, the kids gain discipline, work ethic, confidence a whole lot more. I need to get Sensei to work on the slight foot smell in the place but I guess that's hard when there are a hundred bare feet in there every day. They have classes for all ages so I highly recommend this place.

From having confidence in my ability to defend myself to how to engage with my coworkers and students, or be a dad, there is something to be learned from karate for every area of your life. Now I have the pleasure of training here with my daughters. I highly recommend checking it out.

Fast-forward to today and I, my (now 20 year old daughter), my son (14), and my baby (6) all are students. This place is a second home for us; I even met my husband at the dojo. Over the years I have seen so many people entrust their children to this place and all because of one thing, the Sensei (teacher). This dojo, through its Sensei and other senior practitioners, offers something many other dojo's do not, a true understanding and love for the martial art of karate. They pass this on to the students. OGKI is about more than punching and kicking. At OGKI students receive more than just basic martial arts instruction. They also get philosophy, history, forms, fighting skills, social skills, and will gain self awareness. There are two classes, children and teen/adults. All classes meet Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The kids' class is an intro to karate and intgrates basics with conditioning and a lot of fun. Most of the kids seem to love it. The adult class brings all of these skills together. It is noteworthy to add that you can totally start as an adult. I started at age 32, and am fine! Overall I highly recommend this dojo for anyone looking for traditional Okinawan Karate. You won't regret it.

Extra curricular activities should be a safe place for your children to be themselves, make new…read morefriends and learn new skills. This program came recommended by a family friend, when we first joined things seem to be going OK but overtime that changed. Master Creed is an extremely kind and caring instructor, his staff might not all be as well versed in the care of children and how to speak to them which is why we recommend looking at other programs in the area. Our daughter's participate in gymnastics, golf, soccer and karate. My oldest being so excited to join the karate program was sharing with Mr. Maurer about her recent performance in her golf program and that she was thinking of taking a break from gymnastics. Mr. Maurer is usually the finance guy who will upsell each family on their programs, which is understandable we all have a job to do and need to earn money. In this same breath of her being so beyond excited to be trying something new (which was golf) Mr. Maurer had the audacity to tell her to quit golf, as it is not as fun or cool as karate and ask mommy and daddy to pay for the black belt program. Which we are well aware exists but have no interest considering they force you into prepayment for months long commitments, you also are forced to purchase gear and equipment your child may not need or utilize unless they join that more expensive program (it will be sitting collecting dust). She came home from that interaction so speechless and confused, an adult she looked up to telling her that her new interests are silly and unimportant, pushing something on her she has no interest in and that had been communicated to him by both myself and husband, showed this was not the place for us. My mother in law came home also upset after hearing him address an 8 year old this way. I decided to bring it to master Creeds attention and his sympathy was with us but the corrective action did nothing for my child, nor do I think enough was done at the time in regards to holding Mr Maurer accountable. The class she attended after this conversation Master Creeds decided to make directly towards cheering her on in regards to trying something new (golf), which was appreciated but unnecessary considering she should've never been made to feel that way in the first place. When he did mention the golf it brought herto tears because she had what Mr Maurer said to her in the back of her mind. We never returned after that day, we paid for a program we could not complete. It was worth noting, there's a specific way to address kids and adults. Food for thought when shopping around for a program your entire family should feel comfortable with I don't think this is an honest place to bring your kids.
